i ran across this Vid and decided to make some leather washers. I used to be in a tool room so I have a hole punch block of different sizes. I made 6 for my cars. I soaked them in light oil to keep them soft , then sealed them in a bag. Hope this works, lol. Thanks for the Vid. :) P.S. I used a leather belt I picked up at Salvation Army for a Buck.If I use one washer the belts paid for, lol.
Here's a tip: I made one of dry leather, changed oil, tightened drain plug tight as always. 5000 miles later it was so loose I barely needed a wrench. This time I checked it later the same day and required further tightening. Be aware of this!!! You could lose all your oil!!!
Thanks for the idea. Changing the oil on my Toyota car and old washer was toast. Going to try this instead of biking to store for a washer. Leave it to a jeeper!
Great Information...I Hate plastic and everything it hasn't done for mankind...except for making 2 Families very rich...DuPont & Dow...and Borden...Proctor...Gamble...Cargill...etc..
@@roadstar499 i decided to try it out, and it works. He did it for tranny oil plug not regular motor oil plug, but I figure since they both reach similar temps it should work.
Never leaked a drop. The oil keeps the leather moist. It’s what they used in the old days before plastic. Thank you for asking. You can also use an old belt or old shoes that are made of leather.
I did follow your idea using leather material and it works... thank you.

James K. Glad it helped. Never had a leak yet. They used needsfoot oil in the old days.

Great job
Great idea! I have a leaky trans drain plug on my LEXUS GS400; do you think leather will hold up to ATF? I just put fluid in it! Grrr.
It should.
Budget Jeeps thanks. I used an old belt and it’s working so far.
just like when you install a new oil filters its always a good idea to coat gasket with thin coat of oil to prevent tearing etc..
Thanks for the video works a treat 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Do you think leather washer would work for oil drain plug?

Can i use an O’ring for my oil drain plug or would it leak/melt??
A high temperature o ring might work. I don’t know.
How’d it hold up after you got the fluid back in?

Just make sure it’s a solid piece of leather.
