+Senzorei The VM with the orange background ran the program that allows the "Tech support" guy to connect. If he didn't have that, then the guy could close the VM and have access to his PC with his stuff on. And the Windows 98 VM probably wouldn't run the software to allow the scammer to connect.
+Rainbow Nati If they've come overseas on a work visa, then yes. ;-) (I suppose if I was answering the question with a grammar nazi hat on, common no. Possible, yes.)
You should run a virtual machine in a virtual machine and give them control of the first one so that they can close down the second one. See if they think they've outsmarted you.
So wait, hold on... Do they think the Virtual machine hosting the second virtual machine is the PC, or that the Virtual machine being hosted by the other Virtual machine is the PC? I'm confused...
The scammer thinks the virtual machine hosting the virtual machine is actually the pc but doesn't let on that that fact. So they try and SYSKEY the VM hosting the VM but end up finding out it's just another VM.
Hey, lewis! Nice video, are you going to make some more of these in the future? If you are, pump a VM full of viruses, and see how he reacts. Dont forget to install desktop strippers.
"Jeff" lost me at "How can I hooolp you?". Why the hell are they even trying to pull the act off, if you can tell straight away that it's Ranjit, sitting in some sweaty, run down call center trying to scam you?
+Michał Pawlak Because there are legit tech support people who sound _exactly_ like that. LOL. Hell, even the people at my bank sound like that on the phone. Even non-scam businesses will farm out tech support to places all over the world, you're lucky if you can get someone who speaks English well enough to assist you.
*Sees Windows 98 on start menu* Scammer: "Shoot" "What's an antivirus" Scammer: "Mhm" I love how much you can tell he becomes flustered when things like "did you mean netstat, not netstata" happen. He must be new and does not yet know how to BS anything you say into why it involves a virus.

I have been around for quite a while to be honest, and I've seen a lot of teknishuns in my day, I've seen the best and I've seen the worst. I've seen hundreds of level 3 teknishuns but only a few times in my whole life have I ever seen a level 4 teknishun. But he was going to assign a level 5 teknishun? Unbelievable. +Matthew Trevett Come on , the poor guy knew from like the first 5 minutes that he was being fucked around yet tried his hardest. He even replied in a certain way at times as if to say "Yes I know you are fucking around but I am still getting paid for this time"
+INSERT COIN TO CONTINUE GAME OVER Yep LOL I think you're right. Those people are also possibly paid by how long they remain on the phone, &/or the calls are monitored by their employer, and they're trained to be persistent at all cost, so even if the guy realizes the jig is up he just keeps on going.

+Lewis's Tech You do know you can install team viewer or what ever they need you to install to remote into your computer on the VM right? If you do that they can't access the rest of the computer, only the VM.
If you're gonna play around with scammers like that, you've gotta launch the team view inside the VM, otherwise you can be giving them way to much access to your machine, and they'll see it's a VM.
+libumMendaciumEst it wasn't my machine they were connecting to. I had my host, running a VM of vista which they connected to. That VM ran a VM of windows 98.

+Ryon Persaud Very few of the virtual tools for remote access work on Windows 98. I am pretty sure he did it this way for that very reason. Many of the scammers are too dumb to find a remote connection tool that is compatible and will often give up.
+SpAzMaNiK Didnt he said at the beginning that he would be running the win98 virtual machine inside a vista virtual machine so the scammer would find that win98 is a virtual machine. at around 0:30 he says "I want them to eventually minimize one of the vms and literally destroy my vista one." He did it on purpose.
I love how the first line is in an almost perfectly pronounced english accent, but when he has to use conversational english or go off script his grammar is nonexistant and accent impossible to understand lol
It looks like you used the remote control software on the host machine rather than through the guest. I've seen another prank on a fake tech support guy where Win 98 in a VM was able to use one of their remote control apps directly. It was like the third one they tried, but it finally worked. That of course would eliminate the problem of the scammer seeing the VM window bar, and would probably help also with whatever problem this guy had controlling your system. Also, I like Esteban's suggestion of using Win ME..
+Vanisshen maybe not able to create them inside one of another, but as long as you give access to the vdd file, its possible, but each tier gets gets lower and lower grade virtual settings
Oh, I didn't know that. When I tried it in VMware the VM recognizes the virtual CPU, and doesn't allow me to run a VM within it because I can't enable virtualization using a virtual CPU.
I wonder if maybe the scammers are trained from total ignorance of computers and believe they are actually fixing computers and everyone that works there gossips about all the assholes that always call them scammers.
+davidevgen Cheap labor and they don't feel bad about swindling you because that's just how life goes over there. Luckily they can't pick up on our sarcastic tones so it's funnier screwing with them.
Idk why, but I laughed so hard at the "You want word wrap as well" part. My girlfriend hates me for doing this, but this is literally my favorite part of the week when I get one of these fake scammers.
10:00 aaaaah, as I was about to point that out, he calls it. "how come he doesn't see that it reads 'VM' in the title!?" "I see some X buttons on the corner" "ah, ok, nvm"
JUST TO CLARIFY, I *DID NOT* LET ANY SCAMMERS CONNECT TO MY PHYSICAL MACHINE! IT WAS A VM INSIDE A VM.
+Lewis's Tech no - it wasnt. you did this stupidly - and if it werent for how stupid the tech was - he would have seen the orange desktop as well.
+Lewis's Tech Why didn't you simply run a Win 98 VM from your physical PC instead of that other VM with the orange desktop?
+Senzorei The VM with the orange background ran the program that allows the "Tech support" guy to connect.
If he didn't have that, then the guy could close the VM and have access to his PC with his stuff on.
And the Windows 98 VM probably wouldn't run the software to allow the scammer to connect.

Also, I like Esteban's suggestion of using Win ME..
I'd love to see VM inside a VM inside a VM and scamming the scammers.
+kemboy323 may try that just for fun.
+kemboy323 Don't think you can stack VMs though
+Vanisshen maybe not able to create them inside one of another, but as long as you give access to the vdd file, its possible, but each tier gets gets lower and lower grade virtual settings
+Vanisshen you can they just get slower and slower
Oh, I didn't know that. When I tried it in VMware the VM recognizes the virtual CPU, and doesn't allow me to run a VM within it because I can't enable virtualization using a virtual CPU.
I feel sorry for all the people who actually fall for these scams.
+TrivisionZero so do i :(

I know someone going to write in the comment section sooner or later that 98 looks better than 10....

I wonder if maybe the scammers are trained from total ignorance of computers and believe they are actually fixing computers and everyone that works there gossips about all the assholes that always call them scammers.
why is it alway east indian people that do these scams lol
+davidevgen Cheap labor and they don't feel bad about swindling you because that's just how life goes over there. Luckily they can't pick up on our sarcastic tones so it's funnier screwing with them.

Because the economy of India sucks.
Idk why, but I laughed so hard at the "You want word wrap as well" part. My girlfriend hates me for doing this, but this is literally my favorite part of the week when I get one of these fake scammers.

Did he actually say 'my name's jeff'?
You kind of fucked up here, you allowed access to your native machine and just maximized oracle rather than only allow access to the VM
