  • In this episode of TFBTV, James Reeves tests a first-run copy of the SIG P365 for 18 months, putting over 2,000 rounds down the pipe of this gun and running it though rain, dirt, suppressed, and even with White Monster (oops). James received one of the first of the P365s to roll of the line in 2018. After conducting a 500 round first look review, the gun was cleaned, and then was not cleaned for the subsequent 1,550 rounds and 18 months. Did it run? Did it break? How many failures did it have? Tune in today to find out.

Mine is a 26july2018 built example. Fired 500 rounds of mixed factory ammo with lots of issues. Called sig and they promptly sent me a shipping label and were very helpful through the entire process. Received the pistol back in about two weeks stating the entire slide assembly was replaced. I have since shot 1000 rounds of mixed factory ammo and hst 124 standard pressure with zero failures of any kind. It’s not only a gun you can comfortably carry every day, it’s an enjoyable gun on the range as well. Sights are amazing, ergonomics are spot on, trigger pull/break/reset is terrific. I highly recommend this little shooter, and I own a lot of handguns and I consistently go for this one.

James I own a p365 manufactured in early 2018. It came with the Big X-ray sight so it isn't an exact first run but a very early model. One fail to feed in about 600 rounds. I shot it enough to be confident in it. I also own a 2003 manufacture date p220DAK. LOVE IT AS WELL. I spent 5 years as a logistics officer for a large southern full time SWAT Team. We carried DA/SA 229s in 40 S&W. our first batch bought in the mid 90s had many thousands of rounds through them. We went with newer flashlight compatible guns in the early 2000s. Right after Cohen took over as CEO. We bought 15 guns. Every single one of them had defective take down levers. Sig sent us new ones and we carried those until around 2017. We ordered the 226 TAC Ops. Total junk. Had to send them all back to the custom shop for broken trigger bars and bad springs. We went round and round and never got those guns to shoot right. Meanwhile our Dept had started carrying 226 DAKs. We went through two generations of those. They did ok as far as service life and we ordered new ones. After getting the run around fro Sig for months and delivery delay after delivery delay we finally S canned Sig and now carry Glocks. So in my experience Sig has built really good guns and junk. There are very inconsistent in their QC especially in their small parts. Their Customer Service in dealing with a dept with over 600 commissioned officers who had been a customer for over 10 years was horrible. Unfortunately for us as it would turn out they were in the middle of the 320 Army trials and subsequent contract. Hence no 226s being available.
The Sig Sauer of the late 80s to Late90s is long gone. They are spotty and inconsistent in their parts because as we found out they outsource most of their small parts. Sad but true.

I agree but it kinda shocks me when we’ve had micro double stacks already that are just as reliable like the Glock 26 but i do agree the p365 and Glock 43x changed the industry not just that but so did shield arms with their plus 15 mags i still don’t think theirs a gun the same size or smaller than the 43x that holds 15rds flush fit the p365 holds the same amount as the 26 standard it’s just a little thinner and shorter but i don’t always look at less barrel length as a pro it just depends Glock 26= 10+1 but longer barrel and sight picture which mean better accuracy while sig p365= lighter and more concealable i just wish Glock would be like sig and just charge the same as sig and make their guns come standard with the better sights and instead of 3 regular mags have at least one with the 26 that has the pinky finger extension i understand it’s to be more affordable and it’s cheaper than the sig but they should do it and at least have most gun stores be able to offer both than having to do it yourself i hate changing the sights in and out myself the mag extensions are super easy tho without having the tool made to do it I’ve still don’t all five of my Glock sights without a sight pusher and luckily haven’t scratched any of them while doing it but i wish they’d just make it standard or at least get rid of the plastic sights and make them metal I’d love that a lot more in general the plastic ones get chewed up so damn easy and i feel like they could easily just put glocks in cardboard boxes instead of plastic and afford to without changing the price i do like the cases glocks come in tho compared to a lot of places lmao at least they’re decent cases with carrying handles and have enough room to fit a lot of extra mags n shit

@@therealjohnsmith4811 A "stoppage" is something that can be remedied in the field, a "Failure" is something that cannot. In ALL of the Sig xm17 testing, the Sig ran more rounds before stoppage than the Beretta did in BOTH of their xm9 trials in the early 80s. To put it another way, the new Sig tested more reliable than the Beretta m9 did when new.
And in those early 80s trials, the Beretta benefited from two advantages the new Sig m17/m18 didn't have: 1) Beretta xm9 testing used FMJ ammo which feeds more reliably, while the Sig's better numbers were with two new and experimental cartridges- a new FMJ for training, and the new JHP they are using for field use. 2) The Beretta m9 benefited from what they learned in the first cancelled pistol trials, so they made changes for the second set of trials, and most if not all the pistols performed better because of what they'd learned in the earlier cancelled trials. But those winning Beretta numbers are still lower than the Sig m17's MRBS and MRBF.

I have large hands so I only use the extended magazine or the 10 with the pinky rest; I just can't draw, aim and fire it confidently with the shortie mag. Whatever, it works really, really well and has turned out to be more reliable than my other pistols. And it is so much more comfortable to lug around in my pants than my Browning M2, heh, heh…

I do this because the fun of shooting is secondary to me- shooting is training and that doesn't mean it's always going to be pleasant.

Sig's problem is *how* they deal with these things when they arise. They've had multiple issues like this (P320, MCX, MPX, 365) and instead of OWNING the problems, being completely transparent about them, and then fixing them, they put out press releases full of lawyer double speak, down playing and avoidance and then either make quiet rolling changes or offer "voluntary upgrade" programs. Black Friday 2019 I pulled the trigger on Sig's new 365-9-BXR3-tacpac, made Nov 19.
Kit has the newest P365, three 12rd mags, and an ambi polymer holster perfect for safely covering trigger of loaded pistol.
After 250 initial rounds no primer drag, no wear, no malfunctions, great trigger, great day/night sights, shoots 2" to the left, but groups great, at 15 yards. It's first micro compact I've ever owned with a usable, a very good, trigger/grip association.
    This is magic to me.
I was going to buy two extra 12 rd extended mags anyway.
    The savings are huge.
I saved $100-$200 not needing to buy/install night sights.
I saved $100 not needing an aftermarket trigger.
I saved over $100 not needing to buy extra 12 rd mags.
I saved $20 not buying a cheap holster for safe storage of the loaded gun.
That's $300-$400 I did not have to spend for my ideal carry pistol.
    What? Me worry?
It is better to carry a pistol daily that might malfunction, than to uncomfortably/not daily carry a bigger pistol...that might malfuntion.
With my Sig P365 it's as easy as ABC...
    Always.

What I learned from that experience is that it’s usually better to wait and see how the product does in the market before buying into a brand new platform. Or don’t-and take your chances. The slide would not go into battery over two dozen times with two different kinds of premium ball ammo. I sent it off and got it back very quickly. I like the design of the P365. The strikers breaking sounds to me like it's a typical new release issue of getting the QC up to standard. I remembered when the Glock 43 came out, there were some first release issues of the ejecting on some of those first releases. Some of the CZ P10 C's had weak strikers in one of their batches, same issue due to incorrect heat treatment of the metal. That's why I usually wait for them to sort out the kinks and cranks and get their QC up to standard on a new releases before I purchase it.

I had issues with the slide not returning while trying out a rental p365 at the range yesterday (less than 30 rounds during that session). The guy said it was a rental gun, so lots of rounds through it and it hadn't been cleaned. I'm glad I did some research afterwards. It gives me hope that maybe the range just had a 1st release version.
