I still have to think about this. IDK how YT's algorithm will take to content other than cars for this channel. Also I'm worried it'll go down a spiral of Motorcyclists starting to tell me to ride/buy whatever bike they want. I currently like to treat Motorcycling as a "break" from clout culture and just ride to enjoy myself. Not to get views, so again, it's likely y'all may only see my bikes in the background as passing memories and never as a dedicated mainstay.
@@BladedAngel it's part of the motorsport world, even if it is missing the sport part a little XD. At least give it a chance, i bet thoose who don't want to see it will be surprised, afterall we are here more for you than we are here for the cars.
That's a bit of a contradiction though. If you accept what's possible, then you wouldn't bother chasing the impossible. The only way to achieve the impossible is to reject the idea that you have any idea what is or isn't possible.
Bladed I've followed you since I've had my permit, and now I am getting my license you were the channel that made me grow as a enthusiast your raw words made me realize my own stupidity and understanding in personal taste.. Thank You.
Number one sign you’re maturing is, you find yourself appreciating all sorts of different cars for different reasons. Not being toxic, and finding yourself loving cars for the cars themselves not others opinions or what’s better than another.
Seems like you yourself reached peak maturity in this field of hobby. Your last point about not caring about people's expectation kinda hits home as someone who constantly worries about what other people think.
I feel you, a lot of old heads hate on the type of cash I’m about to drop into my civic. But I’m gonna enjoy it, so fuck what they think with their shitty ptw ratios
Everytime I try and talk to anyone about trying to start modding my car everyone tells me to just get something else and not waste my money but they keep bringing up other cars that cost a lot or harder to get cars and they don’t realize I truly like the platform of my car
@@sinixoth same dude. I wanna swap and boost my 4 door civic and everyones telling me how much of a waste its gonna be and how i shouldn't try to mod a 4 door. I got a 4 door for that exact reason. There were plenty of other coupes on the market then. I wanna see the look on their faces when my 350hp 'pos' is infinitely more fun then their stock infinity g35. More doors = longer wheelbase and thats better imo.
You have anxiety? Try not to stress about it. I know that’s easier said than done, but don’t get too caught up. It’s fine to hear others and consider what they say, just don’t let them control you.
I love this mentality. I've got a bright green Ford Fiesta, and being my first car I was worried about the mods I was doing to it because I didn't think people would like it. But nah, I've just stopped caring. It's got about 15 stickers on the rear window, two being Forza PI stickers because why the fck not 😂 in fact, I've seen more people saying they like them than thinking they're bad
I work at the DMV and constantly “car-spot” in peoples records. It is really fun to just casually ask someone if they still have their Isuzu I Mark and listen to them getting all excited and talking about their car while I do their title work or renewals. I have learned to appreciate so many vehicles far outside of my usual tastes just from watching my tired, cranky customers suddenly light up to tell me all about their car. I have learned so much just from plopping VINs into my decoder, learning a bit about the car in my free time, and keeping my eyes peeled for it again in the future.
I have a DMV story from a few years ago. While paying sales tax on my 1991 Acura, DMV lady told me I overpaid for such an old car. She looked at me at complete disgust that I paid $24k for an NSX. I told her I really liked the cocaine white interior. She said, "I hope it included actual cocaine." She was awesome.
great to hear that not all dmv people are cold and heartless! although I'm curious whether you are breaching any privacy regulation by doing this... But hey, I give you consent to see what cars I own! Just don't look at my ticket history though hehe.
4 resonated with me very much. I always wanted a really flashy car but now a days a MK4 Golf is what does it for me. You learn to appreciate things other than a price tag and a spec sheet. Once you get rid of that feeling of "I have to have the best" life in general is so much more enjoyable. Learn what makes you happy not others, and if that's the high price tag and crazy digits on the spec sheets then be it but not everyone can do it and people should really learn that being humble will take you a good distance in life all together.
Take care of your mk4 man. I couldn’t do it because I had no idea about cars back then so I jumped ship. But it was a great car when it worked. I always smile when I see a happy mk4 drive by or parked on the road looking clean.
@@nowiecochehey Mr relatable comment guy, my story is very similar to yours! I had a few B5 A4s and first gen TTs in my very early 20s, and always bailed due to oddball 1.8t issues. I am now 31 and recently acquired an 18 golf tsi with a smashed roof due to a deer strike. My students and I got the car up to daily driving duty and I currently commute it 2hrs a day in horrid rural conditions. This car has completely reinvigorated my interest in the brand and now I’m very excited to get back into a 2000s VW/Audi project soon. Also, now that I’m a bit older, vagcom and the newer options for diag aren’t nearly as intimidating as they felt back in the day. Food for thought. Go get your shitbox brotha, it’s been 9 months already.
@@qlus bulbs are super easy on the 7.5, unsure about the 7 though. I do have a minor update for those interested in Mk7+ car ownership: I’ve done my best to get used to it over the past 6 months, but the stability control system in this thing is an absolute nightmare. From everything i understand, you cannot turn it all the way off because of the electronic diff. Obviously it happens much worse with spirited driving but even just a small sandy spot in the road will force the outside front tire to nearly lock when driving normal speeds. I don’t know about you, but struggling to keep the car from a guardrail or out of a ditch shouldn’t be a regular occurrence, when my older cars run the same mountains 20mph faster with no hiccups. I read on the forums that you can turn the sensitivity down on one of the accelerometers and that should negate the issues. Downside is the car is more prone to wheel hop and breakage, but poly control arm bushings and motor mounts fixes that easily. Sorry for the book, figure some weird dude reading comments at 4am could use this
12:50 i love how this isn't applied to only being a car enthusiast, in life it's the same thing, you sometimes just let go of your expectations and just living the life it is.
Brand loyalty almost cost me a 10 year friendship lol. A guy I’ve known since high school got an F80 M3 last year & it transformed him into the biggest, most vengeful BMW fanboy ever. He single-handedly turned our groupchat into a toxic place because he felt personally attacked any time someone spoke highly of another car. I finally had to tell him that BMW doesn’t give a shit about him or his used M3 😂
@@seanpaul9509 We’re still good friends, we just roast each other a lot more now lol. He’s always on my ass about Infiniti being past it’s prime, and I’m always clowning him for being a BMW fanboy even though they’re all ugly now. No hard feelings overall.
@@user-il3vd9pt3f I hated them at first, but i've warmed up to the new design lol, the way the grill integrates into the hood lines is what does it for me
Don't know if you will read this as it's been a few months now, but the Super Cub anime from 2021 is an absolute delight and perfectly expresses the joy that classically styled unpretentious vehicles like the Super Cub bring to so many people.
For me, it was growing up from liking stance and rocket bunny kits, into the early 2000’s tuning I grew up with, aka „ricing”. Early 2000’s bodykits, neons, TVs in trunks rock.
Those cars from the early 2000s have so much charm. It’s what I grew up with too and I love them. I think they’re not ricers tho I think it’s just older style. I think rivers are people who use crappy eBay or Autozone parts that serve no purpose
The section about the Supercub is exactly how I feel about my BRZ. It isn't fast and it definitely has it's problems but it's by far my favorite car out there and it makes me so happy seeing people have the same passion about literally anything.
I've definitely done the first I used to be very brand loyal but just growing up and maturing in the car community has made me like other brands and cars I used to hate for no reason
I started with Honda and i can see why people have the heard mentality and wanna defend their brand. so many people thought Honda is peak auto tech and other said Honda = lawnmower!! I'm just glad i got a Honda prelude because even with the Honda crowed they didnt really like it, so i was the black sheep with the Honda Bois. Which helped me with learning about others brands. my next car was a classic 280zx shit box and then followed by a Volvo V70. I feel so blessed to get exposed to all of these cars. I still get civic guys saying civics are the best. I am just waiting to get a nice Peugeot or a c30 and showing other beautiful hot hatches do.
Every car enthusiast has a favorite brand(s), it's normal. Only liking that one brand or car model and completely shiting on other brands or models is so stupid!
@@Kev27RS meanwhile be trying to buy cars from 5 different manufacturers before settling on a hyundai genesis coupe. I've had it for almost 2 weeks and I like it.
My mother was a gearhead who loved mustangs in her youth and she had a huge appreciation for cars like Volvo station wagons and VW hatchbacks so naturally I grew up loving anything with an engine and wheels and my first engine was a cheap quad that was imported from China lol this was 20 or so years ago
I love this story. Ur mom has great taste. I would get an 80s Volvo 240 wagon but with the prices of those now I can almost get my absolute dream car for the price of one of those so If ima spend that much money it’s not gonna be on a 240. I do still want a V70 tho cuz they’re dirt cheap
My dream two car garage would absolutely be a GT500 and VW Arteon Wagon I can't get over how fantastic the Arteon looks in wagon form, seriously it is incredible
That last point hit me hard. In high school I loved supercars and went all over to see all that I could and take pictures of them. My group of friends all ended up getting mustangs and I had this expectation to buy one too. In college it was the same thing, all of my friends drove manual sports cars and I had a CVT Sentra and I felt so behind. When searching for a car I looked at so many sports cars and unreliable or otherwise broken weird cars that I'd adore to drive but couldn't afford or it wouldn't be practical for me. I wanted to impress everyone and fit in and finally I had to let go and I ended up buying a 1997 Honda Accord with a manual and it's been so much fun and I love it. I've learned to fix things, I've learned to drive a manual, and I've learned to respect cars even more than I did before when driving a slow CVT economy car. Not worrying about what others think is so important and it was the hardest thing for me to get over but getting over it is so worth it and now my friends still hang out with me and love the car. It's even more practical so we can all ride together in it
That's awesome man. I was also the same liking super/ hyper cars but then I started using my mom's 2007 Mercury Mountaineer Premier v6 AWD. It wasn't a fast suv with a big engine. But it had nice quirks here and there that made me fall in love with it. I appreciated that car cause it taught me a lot. I can't wait till I buy my own car one day
I own a 2005 Corolla LE. It's a manual. It has new coilovers, new brakes and new tires.. Slow car but handles well. Eventually I want to put a 2zz in it and get it repainted. But that's the journey.
Having a slice of humble pie is definitely the biggest change someone can make. I felt scared of what others would think when I took a step back and downgraded my car but you just gotta do what's best for you and nobody else really cares anyway
I always said to myself I wanted a used 3 series but I mean as a person going to college, I need something reliable and good on fuel to get me to and from class, and I’ve really liked the corolla and civic, don’t know which one to get yet but definitely will be choosing between the two
Tbh as a woman in my mid 20s I love all of my cars because they transport me to where I need to be. But I thought my twin and I would be spared from the negativity about our cars. 100% of the time the negativity comes from guys around our age. All the positivity comes from women and older mature men. I'm aware not all car guys are toxic, but I've had many negative encounters with car guys when I'm cruising. It has caused me to have no interest/attraction for car guys. It's so unattractive when I see guys bashing each other about a deprecating asset. Now I understand the playful banter, my twin and I do that occasionally, but men being negative towards each for an ego boost is a major turn off. I've realized more and more that guys who drive "NPC" cars tend to be more attractive in their personalities and attitudes and low-key their smiles are eye-catching.They seem to have more humility and I love guys like that. Also they tend to be more stealth and let their actions speak for them.
For me I've always wanted a kei car.. I love their quirky styles and how fun they can be even just driving the speed limit. It's 100% truth that it's more fun driving a slow car fast rather than a fast car slow.

Brand loyalty nerds are the absolute worst. I’m one of the few in my group who appreciate all cars but my friends stay talking shit about Euro cars. So I’m glad you touched up on that topic. I had an MK6 Jetta that took me well, reliable, and was very budget friendly on the maintenance. I used to be the guy to despise VW until I actually owned and driven one. Not to mention their customer service is top notch.
This was a good video! The part where you geeked out over a Super Cub was actually really heartwarming. I’d like to add that part of the fun of classic cars is the victorious “I’ve mended something!” feeling every time you start it after a repair. There’s definitely something to be said for knowing that in many ways you are the reason this car is still here and able to do car things. I know someone for whom that car is a perfectly-maintained 1990 Pontiac Sunbird, and when they take it to shows they get a mix of “Wow, I haven’t seen one of those that nice in forever” and “what a piece of junk,” but they’re preserving something that not many other people do and it makes them happy. I hope someday you can experience classic car ownership, I think you’d enjoy it :)
Playing racing games and collecting diecast model cars has made love every type of vehicle for different reasons. My childhood was the McLaren F1, Jaguar XJ220, Jaguar XJR-15 and Lamborghini Diablo SV in Need for Speed 2 and 3 respectively, along with Gran Turismo 1, 2, 3 and 4 (eventually tried GT5). Somehow I came across the 2000 Toyota Celica a few years later to 2003 Cadillac Escalade and many others. Collecting diecast models of various car classes, James Bond, Fast and Furious made me love everything from muscle cars to tuners to super cars. In fact my first love began with supercars and later moved to tuner and muscle cars. I now have almost 200 model cars from many classes.
I'm so glad you made this video because it makes people realize how ignorant and selfish they are, when they put themselves in a bubble. And reject any criticism from anyone else, only staying with a handful of people with similar opinions. Imo, it's all about the experience you get from the car and what you like about it. Not the V16 QUAD TURBO TWIN SUPERCHARGED URANIUM POWERED ENGINE WITH 2 TRILLION HORSEPOWER!!1 In all seriousness, thank you for making this video
Being a car enthusiast and realizing your newfound interest with bikes gives a different sense of freedom. I think it's safe to say we're all growing up here together. Ride safe out there and enjoy life my friend.
I completely agree about the R35 being an aging old dog with a hefty price tag. I thought the main reason for that was they don't have the money to develop a newer version right now? wasn't that one of the reasons why the 350z and 370z were so closely related, and it took so long to get the new Z34 fairlady? and same with the Z31 and 32 before getting the 350z? with that said they definitely can do a lot better, they've gotten pretty lazy with the Q60 which started off pretty good but has trailed off a bit, and the same thing is kinda happening with most of their lineup. Also, I have a lot of respect for the super cub and what you said about it. same thing happened with me and my new bike. for while I was chasing a these high displacement standards. Bonnevilles, thunderbirds, W800s and I just took a deep breath, opened my options, and went with this fun little Royal Enfield Classic 350. it may not make much power, it may be overweight, but its the most fun I have had on a bike in a long time
350 enfield gang gang. I have meteor lol. One of the funniest bikes ive owned. Full pin throttle literally everywhere and still only go 75ish. I love its look a lot too.
@@BladedAngel the looks was the main reason I got the bike! im a sucker for that 60s-70s British standard style, and I love how many color options RE has. nearly had an existential crisis trying to pick which color to buy. i really hope someday more manufactures start making more bikes like that with small and medium engines. I would do unspeakable things for Triumph to make a new TR6. that and I wish the TU250 would come back, and that we would get bikes like the W175 and the new CB350.
I think we've all gone through the stress of expectations. Even in the Honda world, I've felt that stress. I have a little 1991 Honda CRX HF that I brought back from the dead. It's got a rebuilt title, no clear coat, cracked paint, dents, a window that I can't roll down, and a climate control that's cracked to hell and back. But I love this little thing. Lots of people in the Honda world like to look down on the little SOHC D-series engines, and I've literally been laughed at because I chose to swap in a D16Z6 (original engine was blown) instead of a B or K series. But I've been learning to ignore such nonconstructive criticism. Instead, I look at the car and see something that most people would have just thrown away, and take pride in the fact that I made this little car road worthy again. No, it's not a fast car. No, it's not impressive to look at. But it gets 35MPG, and feels like a freaking go-cart with how low it sits to the ground. And that's all I need it to be. A fun little go-cart that can get me to work in these difficult times without breaking the bank. Besides, it's not like I can't clean it up more, and throw on some fresh paint when I'm ready to (in fact, I plan to do just that). At the end of the day, I don't recall anybody laughing at it being there beside me in the dirt, mud, and rain to fix it. So their opinions are moot.
Respect bro, bringing something back from the dead requires serious dedication. Even if it's not fast or perfect, the connection you feel to it is something I understand.
I just bought a relatively cheap V8 Vantage because I’ve always dreamed of owning an Aston. It wasn’t the most smartest decision (or was it? We’ll see in a few years), it’s not the fastest car for the money, it drinks fuel, I’ve gotten a lot of pushback for it from friends and family. But none of it matters, I got it for me and I love driving it, that’s all that matters in the end
What year is your AMV? I've already got one of my dream cars, my baby boy in the pfp. But when I was in college I had developed an interest in the AM Vantage. I would always build one online either in grey or orange to represent my alma mater. When depreciation hits I'd love to get a V12 gray Aston Martin Vantage with orange trim in the early 20s model year. The Brits did an amazing job, it's beautiful craftsmanship.
1 you no longer want speed and handling ...you want comfort and reliability 2 you no longer buy it to impress others. 3 you realise theirs no such thing as perfect. 4 your no longer a fanboy.
I've grown from only liking lifted trucks to appreciating most cars or truck cultures. I've even started to daily a Miata to save on gas and this was a big part in learning to appreciate other car or truck cultures.
Been a BMW fanboy for a long time. At 42, I switched to a Mazda3 hatchback AWD. It's not a powerful car, but it's cheaper to maintain, gets good mpg, interior is probably the best for it's price point, it's 3200lbs and handles great with new P Zero UHP tires. It's just a fun practical car that you can use the power just about anywhere.
My timeline is more from dreamcar supercars from wall posters, to BMW M3 and Mustang fanboy, to classic muscle cars driving 79 Camaro/Trans Ams, and then Toyota trucks. When I got my first truck, I never went back to a car since. I just like a good, capable 4WD 4runner with good AT tires and my bike on that back and take my basketball everywhere.
I really resonate with the brand loyalty part. I may like Honda quite a bit, (despite what track they're taking now but that's beside the point) but no brand is the best at everything. The whole reason my V6 Accord is so great is because there were other V6 sedans by other brands that were better at some point.
I’m in all types of groups tbh. The Yee Yee truck guys, the hooligan Supermoto/motorcycle guy, the JDM guys, euro guys, and classic muscle guys. I like a little bit of everything
I love Nissan GTR and I am not a 12 year old, I was a fan of it from the day it came out and whenever people talked crap about it I went fighting them but then I realised why do I like it. I like it because of the tech used in it. As I grew I realised Nissan GTR is not the only car with great tech and engineering behind it, I found out LFA is a technological marvel, more recently Lamborghini Sian and Mercedes AMG One. I also got to know Porsches are great track cars and are so fun to drive and these days I don't mind people talking crap about cars I love. I have realised no car can be perfect and it is important to know that the way I have favorites other people will theirs too and it is not necessary that people like the same car as you. Once you are old enough to know that you have matured.
I never really liked skylines until the R35 GTR came out ( I'm 17, not 12), as it's such a technical marvel and a amazing bit of engineering which is why I like the Lexus LFA so much, not to mention the brilliant screech the V10 and the Yamaha exhaust make.
It’s a very good car, but it’s not for me. That’s the thing, a lot of guys see a car that is truly good, but they go out of their way to hate it in an attempt to promote their car or brand. I accept it and every culture has good and bad cars, some are just more to my taste, V8 or V10, manual, rear wheel drive is my taste. Bikes are a different story, but there’s many other cars that are certainly very good even if I’m not the biggest fan.
im in the same boat in terms of the expectations but the fact is is that i dont even have my first "fun" car yet, its been eating at me that all my car friends have their fun cars and i dont yet and only have my daily driver. yes im only 17 i know but i just feel behind and stuff but your little speel about it has really helped me with this so thank you.
Yo people talk a lot of shi on chevy cruze reliability but odds are if you are on this channel you know how to maintain a car and won't have issues. I got mine for 2k$ at 90kmiles, 6speed manual, stock turbo sounds great with a simple air intake. I've had a lot of fun modifying this thing over the years personally. And after everything and the car purchase itself I'm only in for about 4,000$ 😊 It's nothing to brag about but it's a lot of fun and cheap as it gets. And Imo it's a pretty good looking car for what it is 💪
I’ve made a transition from a JDM fanboy(god I hate saying that now) to someone who can appreciate everything from Euro to Classic American Muscle. Like all cars are great, we just have to appreciate the work and time that people put into them and not make fun of them for their builds.
Not only are jdm fans toxic there are also muscle car fans who only prefer v8 and Europeans and jdm are shit and I've seen a lot of comments from muscle car fans like that there are also European fans like that too well my The point is that all car communities are toxic. I'm not saying they all are, but they are.
I know this is super old, but it brings up an interesting point. You are paying these companies for their product. It's ok to be a fan, but never, NEVER, accept mediocrity. You pay good money and if something is broken or not functioning correctly, point it out, try to get it fixed. The biggest fans want to help improve the products they love from the brands they love, and the best way to do that is to acknowledge it's flaws and push to make it better.
Another thing I would love for you to talk about is starting to have your own opinions rather than agreeing with others, I think this is one of the most telltale signs that you’ve matured as a car enthusiast, a sequel to this video would be awesome!
I’m quite content with my Honda civic. 248k miles on the clock and running beautifully. Spent money on replacing worn parts and keeping it well maintained. Only really interested in keeping it stock and looking after it. For modifications only have a new stereo with car play, reverse camera, tinted windows (came with the car) and refurbished alloy wheels
Tbh if i only use this video as preference for maturity, i am top tier since i was 4 years old. I just liked cars for what they were, and since my brother was into them i learned about thoose discrete or unknown sports cars fairly quickly like the Clio V6, wich seems like a riced clio until you realize it's actually mid engine RWD.
@@Ferrari255GTO Same here, since that age I had my preferences here and there but I was always open to all forms of cars. I grew up on classic cars. My dad was always working on 60s muscle cars so that's what I first learned to work on cars from. Just a few years ago I got a 1986 Nissan Sentra, I love it even though it has no power. There's just something I like about those old carbureted engines. Speaking of specs vs experience, get in a car and drive 50mph. Now get on a 4 wheeler and drive 50mph. Both vehicles are going the same speed but one feels so much faster.
Well you bought a good car to start with. Lots of aftermarket support and parts and lots of cars that have been built to give you inspiration on your build.

Dude, I'm so glad I stumbled across this video. That warm fuzzy feeling you get from the supercub is exactly the same feeling I have towards my 1969 beetle. It's slow and there's a brief moment of anxiety before I hit the key but the moment it starts it's like all of anxiety and stress of life just fade away and I get to enjoy this moment. This moment is my gift to me, nobody else. Not that I'm a VW enthusiast by any stretch of the imagination or even a Beetle fanatic. I love and respect MY beetle but that's because of the emotional attachment I have with it. My other car is a Mazda RX8. Not exactly fast either but it's the polar opposite to the Beetle. I can't see my life without either car. And yes I cop abuse from all sides about both cars but I don't care, I don't need them to understand. These are my cars, this is entirely my decision and I'm going to enjoy them in spite of those people. Both cars are still running on their original engines, tell me again why they're not reliable.
Bro! Words cannot describe the feeling when you find “Your” ride. It’s always something niche that just scratches that itch. No matter what kind of day you’re having it always puts a smile on your face.
I strongly agree with Bladed. I own a few German cars now. But up to this day I still strongly regret last year for trading in my 07 Focus SES with a five speed to a E350. I only did it because to match the parking lot at work. That Focus was the best car that I ever had. It was cheap and fun to drive. I may needed to check my life insurance ever time I had to enter the highway for how slow it was. But that was a great little car. Plus, girls that aqua blue. If I see another Focus that looks like mine I'm 100% am buying it no matter what.

I started off liking JDM tuned cars but theses days Im really into prerunners and trophy trucks. this is not a video about maturing as a car enthusiast. it’s a video about maturing as a human being. if you apply all of these aspects to your emotions and the way you approach your everyday life you will be a maturing and happier person for real life.
I like all categories of cars. Eco boxes. Small sports cars. Kei cars. Muscle cars. JDM. Euro. Murican. SUVs. Supercars. Luxury. Theyre all cars and every one has its own purpose
Tbh all of what you talked about drove me away from liking cars for a long time. I didn’t care about specs or what was the fastest, I just wanted something cool. I almost completely lost interest in cars until I drove a Manual the first time, and now I’m looking to buy my first car in a couple years
@npc 117 my parents won’t let me right now and I can’t legally buy a car in my name in my state until I turn 19, I’m trying to talk them into letting me get one tho
Just got my 1990 mustang running and none of the work I still need to do is performance. I love this video for how accurate it feels for my own enthusiast journey and turning a wrench on such an old car nearly every day to finally have it start after it sat for over 10 years was so much better than taking corners at 80mph in my WRX.
I think your explanation is spot on. I started my automotive journey swapping nissan 240sx's and chasing higher hp #'s. After awhile I decided that I liked usable power more than the most hp I could squeeze out of an engine. I liked reliability and being able to drive my car, rather than it sitting in the garage for years. I doubled down on trying to make my cars clean and well thought out, and focused on keeping the things like air conditioning, power steering, and other stuff that I thoughtlessly tossed in the trash years before. I still needed the use of daily drivers, and not wanting to totally give up on my hobby the other 99% of the time I drove, I picked cars like 91 mr2 non turbo, 98 civic dx hatch, 99 2.5rs. What I learned was that I had just as much if not more fun with these cars because they still were enjoyable to drive, They were cheap, so I wasn't as worried about them being perfect, and I found that it was more fun to drive a slow car fast rather than the other way around. eventually i moved away from sti's and bought an s2k, meanwhile I got married and my wife had an 07 civic si ( only a few years old at the time) between these cars and my 98 civic hatch that I had previously I developed and affinity for hondas engines, reliability, simplicity, that made me appreciate their overall package. we eventually bought a 19 type r fk8 but an interesting thing happened similar to your super cub awakening. Cars, tuning, and car culture are so different today, compared to the early 2000's. It was truly funny to me that I was swapping engines in my 240sx to get around 225hp when the type r stock came with 300, and all it simply took to make another 50-80 hp was about $500 and a flash tune. The type r had near perfect everything, suspension, brakes, steering, seats, etc. it was fast, and felt effortless to drive. However, there was something really big missing. It just wasn't that fun. especially compared to the cheaper lower powered cars. The type r can cruise at 100mph, and it feels like 60. I was always worried about parking it, people running into while i was in it. it seemed to demand attention from everyone, non car owners hated it, and would make driving it for my wife and I a pain. they wouldn't let it merge, they would slow down, or speed up depending on what would make life more difficult, they would tailgate it, and overall just make life harder. Car enthusiast were the same, except that they constantly wanted to mess with it, trying to get us to race them. The type r had kinda lost what made the civics special to us years before, it was a complicated, direct injected, turbo car, with a lot of performance that wasn't used on a daily basis, that amped everyone else up to the point of making the driving experience worse. Another thing that isn't completely obvious at first is that the car is HUGE, it's pretty heavy for what it is, it has 4 doors, and it lacks some things that my wife had really enjoyed in her last civic, like a sunroof, or the convertible top of the s2000. We ultimately decided to sell it and find a car more in line with what we wanted. something smaller, something lighter, manual transmission, 2 doors, much lower price point, something we wouldn't have to worry about as much, but something that had personality, that still had a back seat and could be practical if need be, it also needed a sunroof. There are plenty of older cars that fit this bill, but nothing really modern does unless you want to spend ALOT of money, or just buy another honda civic, but we finally found something that checked all of the boxes. As crazy as it sounds we ended up with a fiat 500 abarth cabrio. For most ppl that know us, this does not compute. Fiat's generally have a stigma about them and i can even remember making fun of them when they were launched the in USA about a decade ago when i was buying my s2000. We both really like the car though. I think what makes it so fun is the fact that it is imperfect. it will never be the fastest, best looking, or reliable, but it doesn't care, because it's all about fun. We didn't buy the car for any other reason besides our own enjoyment. I never thought that I would own one, but here we are. I know this was a long post, and I hope anyone who reads it can get something out of it. I do think we change as we mature, but I think I'll always love driving and the mechainical aspects of cars, and that ill always be an enthusiast. The little abarth won't be my last car, but don't think you have to fit into a mold or impress ppl.
I would like to see bike content. I have a Kawi Z125 and a Yamaha FJ09. I get way more enjoyment out of the mini bike with all my friends than I do riding my FJ09. Fj09 is essentially my commuter at this point. The Z comes out for the wheelies and hood rat stuff. Nothing beats holding it wide open and looking down and doing 40-60 MPH, always smiling having a great time going slow.
you literally made me realize how much of an idiot i've been with my want of getting a motorcycle. i've wanted one of that zippy loud sports bikes all my life. but i'm actually kinda scared of them? but a Super Cub? that looks FUN! and not scary at all...it doens't have to be fast, it just has to be enjoyable!
I remember being the stereotypical JDM kid back in 2014 or so, then I moved on to hypercars with Forza Horizon 3 (which was what truly got me into cars) then I started branching out into all the different types of cars through that game and finding out "oh hey this car is actually quite cool" And then i got my own car, a Ford Fiesta. And i never really liked hatchbacks before this, but yo... They're incredible. And hell, I get excited when I see something like a Hyundai Ioniq 5 now. It's not just flashy cars that are interesting to me, it's cars as a whole. I saw a Kia Sorento (and being in the UK, that's quite rare) and had to check it out.
I've always wanted a trabant 601, it's slow, underpowered, poorly built, probably unreliable, but it's why I love it, it's got so much character and history
Today, I started using the C7 Corvette in GT7. The car is yellow and I've been using cockpit view this whole time. During my first drive, I kept thinking "Bladed Angel out".
I’ve been watching you since before I started driving, and now, 2 years into my license and I’ve definitely gone from being the video game statistic spiting 15 year old to a wayyy more chill enthusiast who enjoys the old Datsuns at car meets more than McLarens. At some point the cool, rare, sometimes non exotic stuff became more interesting to me than the 15th huracan at cars and coffee.
Matuarity is when you realize that every car is good in its own way there is no point in saying "Supra Best car of all time"(reference to 12 yr old Supra boys) just learn to appreciate everything 🗿
About 4 years ago when I first started playing Gran Turismo 4 I used to be exactly one of those JDM fanboys who only liked JDM cars, but when I was going through the game I had to do many races where I was restricted to driving certain kinds of cars and I got to drive cool cars from all over the world and grew to like all kinds of cars from all kinds of nationalities. I think that in that way the game made me a better car guy.
If you're a generally nice human being then you're automatically gonna do the good stuff that's talked about in this video. People need to just quit being stuck up and only wanting status and clout and all the other bullcrap Just appreciate what you have and help other people out when they don't have things they can appreciate
the points in this video are so incredibly important. the beauty of being able to walk around a parking lot and just appreciate nice cars is a wonderful thing that I hope a lot of people can grow to enjoy. there's nothing wrong with opinions but it shouldn't take away from your personal happiness.
I've always been a chevy pickup fan, but recently I was forced to accept the fact that I can't always own a chevy pickup due to an accident. Someone hit my truck and I needed a new vehicle quick so I bought a jeep cherokee and fell in love with it. I looked into some other cars, such as the mazda cx 5, which I always hated on, same thing with the nissan rouge, but this has taught me that if I look at other options other than chevy, there's a ton of good cars and trucks
My first sign was no longer liking riced out mods like those Amazon wings and shit to now caring about functionality and the flow of the parts accenting the car lines

Loved the part about the Super Cub, it really looks like you found what makes you happy, and that's a great thing! The last part kinda hits home as I love French cars, but nobody around me likes them, so I never dared to buy one. Fortunately I also really love the Japanese cars I have, but maybe it is time to grow and try something different for my next car!
Now, I love Range Rovers (I know, laugh it up) but I understand that LRs are about as reliable as a toxic friend and always will be and I’m able to take that criticism.

You stop obsessing over ferraris and overrated supercars, instead you start loving the everyday stuff, from the Toyota Camry to a Holden Ute. I've become a bit obsessed over Toyota because of the reliability and owning a camry myself, honestly, but I still love other brands.

From what I have learnt from owning a classic mini is that it will teach you patience as there are days where it won't start but once you get going down the country lanes nothing else can beat that feeling
Your supercub story resonates with me. I really wanted a Japanese sports car, fd rx-7, sw20 mr-2, supra, etc; and then I discovered the first gen RX-7. Slow, forgotten, everyone rags on the rotary, etc. But for whatever reason I fell in love. And that's led down a rabbit hole where now I've also come to love cars generally forgotten or just ignored for being basic and boring. I've not cared about trying to have lots of power or whatever, I just like driving and tinkering. If I cared about what people think, I wouldn't own two minivans and want more of them.....
I agree with what you said about classic cars. Really that goes with almost any car built before the 90s id say, at least from my experience. I picked up an ‘89 suburban a couple days ago and maybe it’s a little too new to be a classic, but it shares pretty much everything with older classics. The sound, the feeling when it starts, how amazing it is to drive it, and it’s pushed me to learn how to work on cars more. And even going past that the interior is so incredibly basic compared to any modern cars, there’s a ton of space, the bench seating is awesome, the lack of safety features, while dangerous, I find cool. There’s no airbags or headrests so it makes the interior look like something you’d find in the 60s and 70s, not the late 80s. I highly recommend you find an older truck or car to work on, cause I can almost guarantee you’ll have an amazing time with it. Maybe I got lucky, cause it has no major problems and I’ve really only had to fix smaller issues like broken seatbelts and stuff. Either way, I’ve loved having this suburban

Should check if your coworkers are also car folks!
You are truly blessed to beable to witness God moments like those
You might be the greatest DMV employee in the country.

Basically being able to appreciate any car, and humbly liking what you like without putting others down is maturity to me.

I agree, I’m of the mindset of “get something you’re gonna actually use and enjoy” and not care whether it is the best or not

When listing the big JDM cars of the 90s/early00s, my guy really skipped the mk4 and mentioned the 3000gt. I think I'm in love with this channel now 😍
another week, another round of Bladed's life advices
on a side note, i feel you on the last one, the "not caring"
like, i used to be very afraid of upsetting other people and choose my words carefully (by which i mean not speak at all) but after this pandemic, i feel like i just, stopped caring about everything
why be bothered if someone thinks of you a certain way, don't care and just carry on
Brand loyalty nerds are the absolute worst.
Not the V16 QUAD TURBO TWIN SUPERCHARGED URANIUM POWERED ENGINE WITH 2 TRILLION HORSEPOWER!!1
In all seriousness, thank you for making this video
🤣🤣🤣
Yeah, while the R35 is definitely decent bang for buck, especially used, it's getting old. Really old. A C8 Vette is just as fast and much cheaper.
@@BladedAngeljust wondering how expensive is upkeep on the supercub
😂😂😂😂 BULLSHIT
That's really cool, congratulations on your project.
If you got pushback from buying a V8 Aston Martin then that just proves that you can never please everyone. Always do what makes you happy
1 you no longer want speed and handling ...you want comfort and reliability
2 you no longer buy it to impress others.
3 you realise theirs no such thing as perfect.
4 your no longer a fanboy.
I've grown from only liking lifted trucks to appreciating most cars or truck cultures. I've even started to daily a Miata to save on gas and this was a big part in learning to appreciate other car or truck cultures.
I like it all even Semi trucks as well they maybe slow but hearing the motor hearing the gears shift and cruising makes me at peace
thats some crazy ass growth wtfffff
I just like a good, capable 4WD 4runner with good AT tires and my bike on that back and take my basketball everywhere.
feeling fast > being fast
having fun > being fast
being happy > being fast
reject clout embrace enjoyment
Yeah I agree but if I do own a sports car I would rather drive peacefully and stay safe.
Staying safe makes you happy 😊😊😊
There are many great cars in variety of the games. You should try them all.
And after everything and the car purchase itself I'm only in for about 4,000$ 😊
It's nothing to brag about but it's a lot of fun and cheap as it gets.
Yeah keep that thing going for as long as you can, you’ll save yourself a LOT of money by driving something old and long since paid off.
I've always wanted to see a video about this. apparently I'm more matured as a car enthusiast than i thought. this was another great video
Only thing that has gotten better is my drive to understand the purpose that these machines are created for. Thats why the car in my pfp has grown on me uncontrollably in the last two years.
Man hearing your commentary throughout this video totally reaffirms my confidence in being a part of the car community as a whole
I grew up on classic cars. My dad was always working on 60s muscle cars so that's what I first learned to work on cars from. Just a few years ago I got a 1986 Nissan Sentra, I love it even though it has no power. There's just something I like about those old carbureted engines. Plus I get better mpgs than most people I know with modern cars (when everything is working right)
I definitely have my preferences for some cars and brands, but I don't just hate all others or think my prefered cars and brands and "perfect".
I’m 16 and maturing every day thanks to you, Bladed!

Bladed I followed you for years.
I am from France and studied in Paris. I'm now 27 and never owned a car, because there's no use to owning a car in a city.
But I'm still a car guy at heart and enjoyed thoroughly your videos.
Oh I wish I could say such things in america
Speaking of specs vs experience, get in a car and drive 50mph. Now get on a 4 wheeler and drive 50mph. Both vehicles are going the same speed but one feels so much faster.
I’m new to cars and I’m really hoping to learn going forward. I got a 99 Corvette a month ago and want to transform it
Well you bought a good car to start with. Lots of aftermarket support and parts and lots of cars that have been built to give you inspiration on your build.
good choice it has great aftermarket support like most corvettes do
@The Real Cat of 2020 sounds like you didn't watch the video man. Just let people like what they want to.
And to be fair, if it's working (or will work with some restoration) then more power to him. I'd love a 99 Corvette!
@The Real Cat of 2020 that’s badass tho c5 vette is beautiful
@The Real Cat of 2020 It isn’t my first car, just the first one I’m gonna modify. I have a Tesla Model S too but you can’t really do anything with that
Dude, I'm so glad I stumbled across this video.
It's great to know that a mature car enthusiast is giving advice to other car enthusiasts
Thanks bladed

I like going on off-road trails but younger me would call pre runners slow for not contending with the big boys of speed but now I see that there's much more to it. As Colin McRae once said straight lines are for fast cars turns are for fast drivers

The car loyalty is real. Grew all Chevy and now I respect other brands a lot more. Even shop for them or converse with my wife about them

Tbh all of what you talked about drove me away from liking cars for a long time. I didn’t care about specs or what was the fastest, I just wanted something cool. I almost completely lost interest in cars until I drove a Manual the first time, and now I’m looking to buy my first car in a couple years
@npc 117 my parents won’t let me right now and I can’t legally buy a car in my name in my state until I turn 19, I’m trying to talk them into letting me get one tho
old cars also smell and sound amazing i legit smell the exhaust of my dads 3100 when he starts it not too much it it is still awesome
Absolutely. Cranking a slow vwhicle fast is hilariously addictive. Also they're so cheap you hardly care what happens to em!
all of these tips apply to every other human being as well, not just car enthusiasts
Perfect video since I've just gotten into cars a year ago
you literally made me realize how much of an idiot i've been with my want of getting a motorcycle. i've wanted one of that zippy loud sports bikes all my life. but i'm actually kinda scared of them? but a Super Cub? that looks FUN! and not scary at all...it doens't have to be fast, it just has to be enjoyable!
yeah, totally, i already thought about buying one anyway !
I remember being the stereotypical JDM kid back in 2014 or so, then I moved on to hypercars with Forza Horizon 3 (which was what truly got me into cars) then I started branching out into all the different types of cars through that game and finding out "oh hey this car is actually quite cool"
And then i got my own car, a Ford Fiesta.
You watching too much videos. How frequent did you think "Bladed Angel out"?
The happiest feeling about turning the key on a classic or retro car is it actually starting and running. 😂
"once you accept what is possible, you can understand how to chase the impossible" hit me hard. Im gonna use that
If you're a generally nice human being then you're automatically gonna do the good stuff that's talked about in this video.
5:55 , a mark 5. Beautiful.
My first sign was no longer liking riced out mods like those Amazon wings and shit to now caring about functionality and the flow of the parts accenting the car lines
same!
talking about the honda super cub reminded me about why I want the dorky retired russian military vehicle known officially as the tatra 805
and nicknamed "the duck"
(please look it up genuinly interesting vehicle
and it looks dorky af and I love it)
Loved the part about the Super Cub, it really looks like you found what makes you happy, and that's a great thing!
The last part kinda hits home as I love French cars, but nobody around me likes them, so I never dared to buy one. Fortunately I also really love the Japanese cars I have, but maybe it is time to grow and try something different for my next car!
I guess I was mature at 15 as a car enthusiast and I’m still maturing in other ways as a driver 4-5 years later
Now, I love Range Rovers (I know, laugh it up) but I understand that LRs are about as reliable as a toxic friend and always will be and I’m able to take that criticism.
I have a 1981 Datsun Sunny B310 1200cc sedan, Sunrise Gold with the cream leather interior, 5 speed 4 cyl and RWD... just 80hp, something so simple, yet so special.
The beauty intensifies when no one else understands you.
You stop obsessing over ferraris and overrated supercars, instead you start loving the everyday stuff, from the Toyota Camry to a Holden Ute.
I've become a bit obsessed over Toyota because of the reliability and owning a camry myself, honestly, but I still love other brands.
Bro I want a holden ute they're just a waaaaaaay better el camino that looks badass and modern
Just before some likes Ferraris and supercars doesn't mean they are obsessing. You by telling them to like what you like is what this whole video is against.
@@AdhamHossam165 fair, but I'm talking about the guys that are like "FERRARI IS BEST CAR IN THE WORLD!!! I LOVE FERRARIS!!!"
aka those 5 year old lil homies
@@phantomaviator1318 yeah i get that. People who compare supercars to regular cars even if they have no correlation between them are annoying. But i probably just misunderstood the wording of your comment. By that i mean i thought that you kinda like "forcing" people to love a brand they don't but now i understand that you meant for them to respect brands like toyota.
