This particular house is at about 1000 ft elevation. Even now we have 5 ft of solid snow on the ground, while the town of Homer has grass showing......Trust me. It's my yard. We are still shoveling.
It was a bad winter for many in 2012 we had a lot of snow in N/E Indiana, but nothing like you had in Homer, that would make me want to move south for the winter anyway.
The Honda is the best snowblower you can get. I got a Honda 1332 I picked up used from local dealer. Wish I could try snow clearing it with it. Can’t wait to use it
I know I'm late to the party on this video -- it showed up in the sidebar of blizzard videos -- but I can't imagine dealing with that much snow! You have a beautiful property! I live in northern Illinois where snow is measured in inches, not feet. Sometimes we'll get 18-24 inches at a time, but that's nowhere near what other parts of the country get. I've never been to Alaska, but hope to get there soon. Thanks for sharing this!
Chicago area? We are northwest suburbs. Its been calm for the past 3 years or so and just this year we got a measly 1 inch every week. 2011 was a real monster.
We live in the northern suburbs, 5 miles from the state line. Yes, 2011 was horrible; 2015 wasn't great either. We moved to Virginia in February 2015 the day after we got 19" of snow, but we moved back to the Chicago area 6 months ago for family reasons. At least the midwest knows how to handle/manage their snow.
It gets very tough when there is 2-3 feet of snow and I've never had more than three feet and its very rare to get even 18 inches. Wow that is something else
That brings memories. Our first year up here in Tahoe, were lived at 7500 feet, and while away we got 5 feet over 3 days. The big MTD was up for it, but I did just that of having to make one pass, then knock down a couple feet on the next one. Now I know that even with my Honda, I need to get out and snow blow before the snow gets much more than 2 feet. Even with our 30 year high in 2011 (700" at Squaw), I was able to keep up though some were double days before and after work.
I've got a wonderful solution that my late grandmother did to solve the problem of clearing snow off the driveway in the winter months: BUILD A SMALL 'WINTER' GARAGE at the road, so that your vehicle is already at the road, and then you only have to put on a pair of snowshoes to walk out to the 'winter' garage and you don't have to do much snow clearing at all. You use a toboggan to drag supplies back to the house. It would only be used a few months of the year, not year round.
No, the description is right..... The video as taken in Homer, Alaska. I live in the city limits....The city of Homer is not flat, it sits on a bench above Kachemak Bay.
Keep in mind, this was a record-setting winter for Homer. As much as I'd like to brag about this happening every winter, it doesn't.. I've seen maybe three or four of these winters in my lifetime and I'm a senior in high school.
that is beautiful, but must really suck to live with that. i just dug out from 12" her on the east coast and cursed a blue streak the hole time!! thanks for sharing
I am from Va and could only wish too have winter like that. Most snow ever was 2009-2010 a total of 70+"in of snow. You get that in 1 storm. Your so "LUCKY"!!!!!
I love cold, I love winter! I wish i can go there on your place in Alaska.. Because on my country i feel hot, I just love the cold weather especially winter...
I am humbled. We had 3-4 ft this winter here in the high prairie of Sand Hollow Idaho. We usually get 6 inches at a time and it doesn't last. I've had years of being able to golf a day in every month of the year! Yes it was cold but die-hards don't mind the cold. Have you experienced this again since 2012? Best regards to you all there in Homer Alaska. God be with you.
@mailforward4me family lives in homer and say they get hit pretty hard but idk if there's more than one homer in Alaska they said they get about 70 inches a yr
We were lucky in Quebec last year, not too much snow. Would not look forward to that much, but that's living in a northern climate. Makes you appreciate spring more than my southern neighbors.
The Funny, fun part of watching this Video.. I have plowed, Snow blown in that exact area for MANY years,, Maintaining the roads.. 2012 was Not a bad year. Not average when you get down to it.. , the fun years were in the 50, 60, 70's and 80's.. Homer, the Ridge, and the Mt.. had some snow.. Ahhhh those were the days of the Hale and Hearty.. enjoyed the Video.. Memory of good times.. ;-)
Don't wanna judge but... If you have a 2000 foot driveway, and live in a place where you get that much snow.... What about buying a tractor with a big snowblower attachment? Pretty sure i'd be worth it...
Dumb ass it was a blizzard - you couldn't see five feet in front of you and wind gust were over 60 mph sustained wind was 35 mph snow was falling at about 10 inches an hour so unless you have been there STFU.
snowblowers on agricultural tractors are actually not that good - they spin tires and really cant push into hard snow very well --- a skid steer with a blade and bucket and a snowblower is better ----- actually the best would be to have a snow clearing company on speed dial lol
I know I would buy a SNOW CAT to get around after the snow comes..Ill never complain about cleaning my 800 foot drive way of 2 feet of snow ever again...6 ft of snow ....you guys r TOUGH I'm moving to Homer. Ill bring my snow cat
See my video "Welcome to Minnesota". Darn storm kept blowing in the 1000' long driveway going into where my shop is. The owner doesn't always get around to blowing the driveway so I have to do it sometimes. I'm hoping to get the Bercomac blower mounted to my big Toro Garden tractor before winter so I don't have to use my John Deere little 524 walk behind. I once did the entire 1000' driveway with my JD 524 walk behind. I don't really look foreward to doing that again and freezing my azz off.
that is crazy, I can't believe all that snow. I know if we get over a foot it takes a lot to clear our driveway I wouldn't even know where to start if I came home or woke up to that.
My area of Wisconsin gets quite a bit more snow than the city of Superior, due to heavy "Lake Effect" storms off Lake Superior..... We get up to 200" a season Areas of Michigan's Keweenaw Peninsula get as much as 400", because the peninsula sticks right out into the lake... Due to it's location at the SW corner of the lake, Superior gets almost no Lake Effect snowstorms......
I have a 1978 Toro 1132 and it was tested on the blizzard of 78'and I'm STILL running it. It has the ORIGINAL Briggs I/C 11hp.engine on it and DOES NOT use oil at all.Why would ANYONE have a 2,000 ft.driveway and buy a"walk-behind snowblower regardless of who its built by??.I would have bought a John Deere 3720 diesel with a 72"inch snowblower with a heated cab and optional 4-wheel drive.
Mailforward4me, Homer never gets this much snow because it usually comes as rain. But in that winter almost all of it came as snow! The snow would usually melt fast but it didn't cuz they kept getting more. I wish we had that much snow!
According to the National Weather Service, brad, Homer gets about the same amount of snow as Seattle and Portland.... Yes, it is true that the mountains near Homer get more, but then again so do the mountains east of both Seattle & Portland .... The simple fact is that Homer, because it's a coastal area, usually gets far less snow than inland areas of Alaska...
this is really not true. we get a ton more snow than seattle. and if you go 1000 feet up on the bluff, where many people live, we get way more than 100 inches, not really sure how much, but closer to 150 or 200. but down in town its usually around 60 inches, which is in lne with most of wisconsin. I looked it up because I was curious and the superior area of wisconsin gets between 70 and 103 (bayfield).
i lived in fairbanks for 5 years. on the bluff, where the video was shot, within the city limits of homer, there has been way more then 110 inches. last winter there was at least 20 feet of snowpack that didnt melt until late may/early june. those stats are from the airport. anyway, lets call it good, good thing i dont live in wisconsin!
That is some serious snow, the most I have ever dealt with is 42 inches. Just wondering if there was a reason you waited for the snow to stop before hitting it. On big storms I may remove the snow a couple of times. Either way its looks beautiful there. I am love to ski so I love snow. Take care
If you were to keep them in the winter, you would have to keep them in a well insulated coop all winter. If you left them outside they would literally freeze. Temperatures range from -20 to 35 degrees Fahrenheit in the winter months. Better to ask than assume though.
+olskoolnewpaint it dealt with 3 feet of snow (bogging out everytime) when I had it and ran ok. Try to start it, it'll take at least 30-50 pulls while messing with the choke just to start it and was older than me
Been by there time after time over the years. I use a snow bucket / blower on my Skidsteer here in Montana. But there snow blower is far better then a shovel.
In the Honda snow blower manual it shows how to cut away the snow in VERTICAL LAYERS. You let the snow blower run up and over the top of the snow, so it floats up on the packed snow, and you use it to dig away around 12" at a time. Helps to wear snow shoes while doing this type of bit-by-bit snow blowing. When the first layer is blown away, you take another run at it, cutting away a deeper 12" swath. Keep going like that until the entire 5 feet layer of snow is blown away. That's why they use tracks on the Honda blowers, so you can float over the snow like that. Cannot do that with wheels.
I fixed my snowblower with a brand new engine (a honda 5,5 hp) and thru this winter i think we got at most 12inch of snow in total , but thats it so far, this winter is not over until in the end of march , i remember last year i got orund 45 inch of snow witch are normal in my area and the last month i had to shovel the sno by hand sens the engine broke down. .Best winter wiches from middel of sweden (sorry if bad spelling)
What is the typical snowfall and snow depths during a "normal" winter season? I love snow, but I am not sure what I would do for a living in Alaska. Cost of living is so much.
@mailforward4me lol Just saw ur other comment about gets as much snow as Seattle ! Noo homer gets about 5x as much they got about 75 inches this ur I have family up there
you dont have any snow removal equipment JBuck. Over here in northern illinois, some of the side streets and parking lots get an inch of compressed snow. Great drifting weather
If the snow are 6 feet, how tall are the man? 12feet? As long as he is taler than the snow bank, it can't be 6 feet of snow. Good bless Honda, sadly I have a Ariens, just a load of crap, and a good tractor wilt a back mounted snowblower :D

Great video. That Honda looks like an awesome machine.
I’m in love with the scenery. Simply beautiful.
And 9 months after a big storm a bunch of babies are born.
Boyd W 😂
every action have a reaction hahaha
Thats one hell of a storm... after the storm... a born storm...
I remember that day like it was yesterday I was on my boat in Florida where I live and caught a huge grouper
I'll never complain about snow in Michigan again.
Gerald Thomas me too
Man you think! Wonder why they did NOT?
Or here in Chicago
I HAVE NEVER COMPLAINED. And the reson is I live in Houston tx where it rarely snows so when it dose I enjoy myself
Meanwhile in the lower 48, the winter of 2011-2012 was one of the warmest and least snowiest winters in recent years.
Thinking out loud here, but a Massey Ferguson tractor with a blower really should be in your future.
Don't matter how hard it is to shovel your way out...the view is breathtaking
The Honda is the best snowblower you can get. I got a Honda 1332 I picked up used from local dealer. Wish I could try snow clearing it with it. Can’t wait to use it
This is it - I'am moving to Alaska !
+Edor Mogielica Get your shovel ready !!
that looks so AWESOME! i wanna live there!
This video shows Honda durability and reliability. Where other snowblowers fail, Honda does it. Honda Power!!
Not exactly. I have an Ariens and it rocks. Have had it for coming up on 16 years now. First pull start EVERYTIME!!!
2012 was a crazy winter. I think we had 120+ inches in Anchorage over that winter. Seemed like every a couple of days we would be getting 6-12" more.
Just like eastern Canada 2 winters ago. 3 feet Monday then Wednesday and Saturday.

I grew up playing on Mount Baker. If I am not mistaken they set a record on Baker this winter.
Not exactly a 2000 foot driveway but probably felt like it :-) Good work!

and I thought the 25inch storm that hit Bangor maine back in Feb was bad lol
That-s ... BEAUTYFUL !

Mickr4 first off: those things aren't cheap and second: it works when the snow only is 1 or 2 foot high or maybe more but not 6
So every 10-12 inches that pile up, you go out and blow snow. They actually do work while the snow is still falling, you know.
Dumb ass it was a blizzard - you couldn't see five feet in front of you and wind gust were over 60 mph sustained wind was 35 mph snow was falling at about 10 inches an hour so unless you have been there STFU.

How cold was it in F?
I'm so jealous. sure it must be awkward but I'd love some lovely powdery snow
+louisasmiles Grab a shovel, bitch. lol.
looks like you have some beautiful country surrounding you. where Homer is this beautiful you're so lucky
I know I would buy a SNOW CAT to get around after the snow comes..Ill never complain about cleaning my 800 foot drive way of 2 feet of snow ever again...6 ft of snow ....you guys r TOUGH I'm moving to Homer. Ill bring my snow cat
Erie, PA Christmas week 2017, 7 ft of snow.
This video has been featured on our FB Group HONDA SNOWBLOWER ENTHUSIASTS.....thanks.
Reminds me of the UP in the '90s...

Snowblowers don't grow on trees. We usually shovel. This was just a big storm.
They also have a PTO Blower attachment for these tractors...
It is still a gorgeous scene

Need cutter wings on the blower. Massive job!

Alaska is the coolest place of the world !. 😊⤴️
you guys are tough more power to you I'm going to stay down here in the states NJ sucks but not as bad as what your going through
I miss plowin the driveway and my Briggs powered 5 hp snowblower. Wish I could help out. So how much snow do think will fall this year
+Peter Kapica lol 5 HP. You'll just bury yourself with that underpowered machine.
+olskoolnewpaint it dealt with 3 feet of snow (bogging out everytime) when I had it and ran ok. Try to start it, it'll take at least 30-50 pulls while messing with the choke just to start it and was older than me
+olskoolnewpaint and how much power did the Honda have??
Peter Kapica
Who has a Honda ?

Bet you wished you had gotten the drift cutters, huh?

Most states:.
Bosses be like:. You still coming into work today?
Alaska:. I'll be right over soon.
Yeah I agree, I'm from New England the snow is really nice, but sometimes to much is too much haha
What is the typical snowfall and snow depths during a "normal" winter season? I love snow, but I am not sure what I would do for a living in Alaska. Cost of living is so much.
The most I ever cleaned up was 3 feet of snow, that much would kill me.
same
It’s times like this you think maybe that sit on lawnmower with a stage 3 blower may not be a bad idea after all
Hey, Homer
Today is May 18th... woke up to snow... (just an inch) at this very location!! Just when I think it's melting....
This is now where I am going to live. See ya Illinois!!!
@mailforward4me lol Just saw ur other comment about gets as much snow as Seattle ! Noo homer gets about 5x as much they got about 75 inches this ur I have family up there
Are you still digging that snow?
and in newjersey we freak out about 1 foot of snow
Thats true
i'm from houston we just flipped out about 1 inch...
you dont have any snow removal equipment JBuck. Over here in northern illinois, some of the side streets and parking lots get an inch of compressed snow. Great drifting weather
was this a record snowfall for Homer Alaska?
that dog is having a blastt!!!
If the snow are 6 feet, how tall are the man? 12feet?
As long as he is taler than the snow bank, it can't be 6 feet of snow.
Good bless Honda, sadly I have a Ariens, just a load of crap, and a good tractor wilt a back mounted snowblower :D
I know I would have a lot of fun in that because i have never even seen snow!
That looks like a bit of work. You need a front end loader with a blower.
I would definitely look into a bucket loader will go to Florida for the winter
I live in cali. we get no snow in the valley
Cool video i live in INDANA were going to get 4 to 6 today will see if it happens in ready I like snow
3:38 .. when its deep I break out the table saw
does no one have a tractor with snow blower or blade or loader bucket
bill45colt I have a 6140D John Deere with a 7 foot wide and 5 foot tall blower and a loader on the front
Dang, Where i live we only got 4 feet of snow in febuary.
Why not leave one vehicle at the end of the driveway, in case of emergency? Much less to dig out.
Looks like somewhere up off of Skyline Drive
