  • Today we talk about Tarjei Vesaas and his masterpiece of Norwegian literature The Ice Palace. It is a slim and accessible novel that is full of hidden meaning, long silences and poetry and very much deserves a prominent place in world literature. Enjoy!

Great review! Agreed that more people should read The Ice Palace - Vesaas is one of the greatest writers of the 20th century.

Nice channel. As a Norwegian it's crazy I haven't read this. Or anything else by Vesaas. I must do something about that. In Norway I think this one and "Fuglane" are his most well known books, but somehow he is almost a little bit forgotten. Not really forgotten, but you rarely hear him mentioned these days.

Read it three or so years ago, and still haven't made my mind up about it. Sad, strange, maybe a little alienating (for some), but worth reading certainly.
