When she came out with her first album every song was a hit, with the new version of this one on it. The world would never be the same. I was 25 and in my prime. I think that was the first girls gone wild era.
I would love to see her re form this act and tour with it. Maybe too late now. But she should have done it. It would have been amazing. They could have written some new tunes and even played a punk version of some of her solo hits.
It sounds like it was done on a boombox in the club...bands we were in at the time used to do that - for practice too - the mix isn't too bad actually.

Around this time there were hundreds of new waveish bands hustling in NYC in the music scene that the first wave punk era bands helped to create. Madonna and Cyndi Lauper both came out of that scene. Before the punk/new wave scene emerged the music scene was centered in LA.
I like this version so much more than the original. 1983 was when pop synthesized crap took over including this song. The late 1970s style reminds me of Blonde and Joan an the black hearts.
Oh I love all versions of the song. I love the 85 live version. The 2004 version will always have a special place in my heart. I saw the 2nd night of the tour, I did not know the setlist so I died when Burning UP started. I never thought I would hear that song ever again.
