Here in the American south, we have beautiful cities like Charleston, SC, Savannah, and New Orleans filled with black wrought iron. Black would also give the gates some "weight" they look a bit delicate against the massive stone walls. Good job fellows.
Black Pearl with Gold, or Nickel. Would bring out the attention of the existing white windows in the back ground. This building is going to be Magnificent !
Black Gates! I think if they are painted a color it will make them look cheap. With them being black they will look like wrought iron and more sophisticated.
Maybe paint them black with gold tips on the points on top of the gates..and maybe a little gold in a couple of places lower down on the gate.. black paint have a high shine will look smashing ! But it’s your choice the gates are already lovely very classy style !, 👍🇬🇧👍🇬🇧👍🇬🇧👍🇬🇧
The gates look amazing! I personally prefer ironwork in black. However they are perfect in any color for this project! I was thinking with the spiral steps in the background that they should carry the same color.
Loving the gates Billy, they look as though they've always been there. I personally think they would be striking if they were painted black with gold highlights. Whatever you choose I'm sure it will be amazing. Best wishes.
Amazing gates Billy, they look like they have always been there. Black with gold embellishment on the scrolling would look pretty nice. Someone mentioned black and gold and that was what I was imagining in my mind. But whatever you paint the gates is fine, your gates. I always look forward to your vlogs on Sunday and what's going on with the Pethericks, Sadie and Mo!!!
We love the green too. But if it needed to be different, matching the color of the trim on the windows might also look nice. Love the new gates and video!
After sandblasting, repair, welding in any new metal where needed, I'd refinish the gates in a Cast or Brushed Nickel paint. 2nd choice would be a darker, Forest Green, not the current green. But whatever trim color you want to use around the windows and doors should be the same for the gates. They are amazing.
I also like the green, as you look through it blends in with the green trees you have around against the walls of the convent. What a fantastic job you have achieved between you all it really gives impact, what a difference from the old horrible gates, which made it look like a prison. WCL
The current green fits the aesthetic quite nicely and looks like it's been part of the convent for quite some time, but black with gold accents/highlights would fit the grand and majestic history of the building. Whatever you choose to go with will be great to see, can't wait for the next update. Keep up the great work
Amazing transformation. Removing the flat piece over the entrance was an amazing change opening the whole entry. Love it. Also loved your smile at the end of the video. Really showed how excited you were about the new gates. Now as to the color of said gates. My choice is black with gold accents. I think to paint the gates to match the white woodwork of the exterior would more them look insignificant. The gates need to be the star.
Billy: “ I’ve got a little bit of work to do, not much - just a bit of rust here and a new piece there and weld on the broken off bits.” Nothing is a problem to you Billy, you are a master of many talents and the pace of work being done at the Convent is remarkable. What a great team of friends and family and your father is an amazing worker too. The gates look perfect there as though they were original. 👏👌🥰
( Maureen ) I have been here from the beginning Billy and used to leave a comment every time , but now you have grown so much that I enjoy reading all the other comments . I just wanted to say that the convent is living up to all our expectations fantastic , you deserve all your new subscribers . Definitely green.
Love the green. I absolutely love Ed and Anna’s passion project. They have done amazing work in that house. I do hope they get to keep it and live in it some day.
The gates look amazing Billy and look as though they were made for the property…….the green is also perfect as it shows up nicely against the stonework…! I’d like to add your Dad is beyond amazing and I can see you are following in his footsteps in his work ethics…! Loved the video again ..!❤️
The gates are perfect! They fit as though they were made for the convent! I like the green, but equally historical for the period and what might accent the stonework there well is oxblood, or (and I got this from Wikipedia) the French term sang-de-boeuf, a deep almost burgundy color but less purple and more brown.
The gates look like they have the originals. Perfect. I think I like the colour black with (as another commentor suggested) gold highlights on the design pieces
The transformation is wonderful! The green looks good but if you're going to change it, then black. Black looks so beautiful with the fancy bits. You could even emphasize certain parts with gold to make them stand out. Cheers from Sunny San Diego ⛱️ 🌴
The new entrance gates look great. A real dark magnolia leaf green (almost black, but green) would be my first choice. That dark color would balance with the weight of the architectural scale and design of the structure while welcoming the view of hardscape into the landscape within the court yard.
I'd go with black. Tends to visually give the impression of strength and intimidation. Unless you're planning on planting some large arborvitaes on either side outside the gates, then ok with the green.
Billy, the new gates are beautiful and look like they were made to order for the convent! Take your time on the color choice, and ask yourselves whether you want the garden/courtyard to be the star, as you look through the gates, or the gates themselves. There are an abundance of images online that may be helpful, but I’d live with it for awhile, solidify plans for garden/courtyard then go for it. Great videography, BTW. Love being able to watch your progress. Community must be ecstatic.
Garden and gates will complement each other, to see a beautiful courtyard though stunning gates is wonderful like a little sparkling gem, when your least expecting it on a walkabout
Gorgeous gates! Well done, and such wonderful help from all the crew of family and friends! Green is nice but I think black with gold medallions would look very elegant, and would go beautifully with the color of the stone of the structure. A really nice gold would set it off quite properly. It's great to have uncovered the original stonework at the gate base. Just think about all the feet that have cross those paths!💗
Gates are lovely! I would paint them black. Black would allow the beauty of the stonework of the building to stand out and the gates would compliment the building. You have a lot of energy!
Shiny black for the gates. But honestly, I like the other suggestions here for a dark green or even burgundy. They'll look really nice when they're all finished.
Magnificent addition to the Façade! Colour? Black for the gates with gold tops on the finials. Tip. When packing a void with concrete, (Gate post straps), use a 'dry lean' 4-1 mix, slightly damp and pack it in with a wooden ram and lump hammer. There's no shrinkage to worry about and curing time is halved and its a solid fix too!
I think a slate grey with a blue undertone, the same colour as the roof in behind, would look stunning, but if you're keeping it traditional you can't go wrong with basic black. Maybe with some gold touches to bring out the tones in the façade. Green is nice but it kind of comes out of nowhere.
Billy, you have a great sense of style and yes, the green color is best. It transitions into the green grass of the courtyard beautifully. The gates look inviting rather than institutional! Good job! Thank you for sharing your project!
They look perfect with that green. It gives off a peaceful vibe that is more welcoming and less imposing.
A million times better. Those gates are stunning. I would paint them however, black. The top decorations make those gates.
Black would look fabulous also.
Dark grey 💗 like the roof of the Convent 🙂
Billy Amazing Gate” Black & Gold I Think? Would Look. Smart 👀👍
Black with antique gold accents
Black with gold accents would just make an opulent entry. Gates are amazing👍❤️
Classic black, for sure!
DEFINITELY keep the gates green …. it’s probably the original colour ……….. JUST BEAUTIFUL well done can’t wait to follow the convent renovations
Black would look beautiful 🥰
Here in the American south, we have beautiful cities like Charleston, SC, Savannah, and New Orleans filled with black wrought iron. Black would also give the gates some "weight" they look a bit delicate against the massive stone walls. Good job fellows.
Yes !!I think the black would love great.
I love the green, but black would be beautiful also! You're right.
Black would look original
yes black is my vote
I agree totally. Black would be the best. Many classic old gates and fences are painted black.
Black Pearl with Gold, or Nickel. Would bring out the attention of the existing white windows in the back ground. This building is going to be Magnificent !
Black with gold detailing… always a classic … but even in current condition looks amazing 👍🏼
I do like black , would go well with the planter’s
Black Gates! I think if they are painted a color it will make them look cheap. With them being black they will look like wrought iron and more sophisticated.
Black or a dark Grey I think, They are brilliant gates Billy, well sourced!! Really enhance the Convent.
Those gates look like they have always been there. Absolutely gorgeous!
I love the green but I would paint some of the decorative elements at the bottom and top in gold. Beautiful gates indeed.
For SURE a GOOD BUY on Gate!!! Green Gate is perfect!!! Great Asset to your property!!!
Charcoal Grey would be second choice!!!
Green - just like it is. It is a beautiful gate.
They look amazing!
I think black would be a great choice. As another comment said, it would give them a more weighty balanced look against the stone.
Those gates a perfect addition to the convent. They look like they have always been there. I personally like the green color they are now.
I agree 💯... 👍
maybe match the green of the mailbox
I totally agree.
I love the green too!
Gates look fabulous, ,definitely black and gold
Black Gates would stand out, especially the ornaments, and ornamental iron work.
Green gets my vote! It’s traditional, it sets off nicely against the granite. Those gates are gorgeous. What a find, and masterful installation too!
New gates look great…and there is Mick (Dad) once again guiding the whole process. I think he is a legend!
The gates look amazing! I personally prefer ironwork in black. However they are perfect in any color for this project! I was thinking with the spiral steps in the background that they should carry the same color.
Black, black, black.....most elegant......or a very very dark midnight blue.
I absolutely love the green and its antiqued glory, however, if you decide to paint them, I think black would be lovely.
Loving the gates Billy, they look as though they've always been there. I personally think they would be striking if they were painted black with gold highlights. Whatever you choose I'm sure it will be amazing. Best wishes.
Correct !!!
The green is ok, but black wrought iron is timeless, and packs a big punch of elegance.
Love the gates style and that colour green. The "new to you" gate makes the entrance look much more friendly!
Agree
I think I also like the green color
Innovative use of the digger to lift the gates......you boys can do anything!
Absolutely green. Fresh and natural looking
I think the green of the fence looks really great! I wouldn't change it at all, except to freshen it ip. What a great find 👍🏻
I think the green looks good just needs freshened up especially as you can see the green trees in the background. Good find Billy.
Leave green matches your letter box . Thankyou for another great video and update x
Black could look good to!
I like the green.. to me it adds to the look of the convent.. love the new gates.. look forward to seeing finished..
We love the green too. But if it needed to be different, matching the color of the trim on the windows might also look nice. Love the new gates and video!
Wx
I think the gates and the trim should match! They are beautiful gates 💗

Leave green enhances the row of trees.
black with gold highlights oh the flourishes
I think the gates would look amazing painted semi-gloss black with subtle gold accents.
The current green fits the aesthetic quite nicely and looks like it's been part of the convent for quite some time, but black with gold accents/highlights would fit the grand and majestic history of the building. Whatever you choose to go with will be great to see, can't wait for the next update. Keep up the great work
Gates could remain green. It could look amazing black with gold embellishments might send the gates to another level .
Those gates are perfection! Can’t believe how well they fit. While I like the green I think black would look nice too.
I love the new look. Black with gold highlights would be my vote.
I really love the green. I think the current colour is perfect.
Black, of course.
Black would be my choice as it will stand out and it also enhances the colours in the stone. Great work by all
I think the green with the green bushes in the background look perfect and complement each other. Lovely
I vote black for the gate color. Helps to pull in the gray roofing color.
I really like the green. If not black would be beautiful too
Amazing transformation. Removing the flat piece over the entrance was an amazing change opening the whole entry. Love it. Also loved your smile at the end of the video. Really showed how excited you were about the new gates. Now as to the color of said gates. My choice is black with gold accents. Black and gold gate.

What a great team of friends and family and your father is an amazing worker too. The gates look perfect there as though they were original. 👏👌🥰
Green would be lovely 🥰
Billy, green is a great color. They look awesome!
Definitely black, would look very classic with stone
With gold pencil thin highlights.
( Maureen ) I have been here from the beginning Billy and used to leave a comment every time , but now you have grown so much that I enjoy reading all the other comments . I just wanted to say that the convent is living up to all our expectations fantastic , you deserve all your new subscribers . Definitely green.
I was thinking the color should be black reminiscent of the convent in the sound of music.
I do like that green, but I think black would be very nice! The gate looks great!
Green is perfect.
Dad is totally the ‘Ducks nuts!’. He’s amazing & his skills are just out of this world !!
The gates are perfect! They fit as though they were made for the convent! I like the green, but equally historical for the period and what might accent the stonework there well is oxblood, or (and I got this from Wikipedia) the French term sang-de-boeuf, a deep almost burgundy color but less purple and more brown.
I agree the Green is classic for the time period of the convent and in my opinion stunning.
The gates look lovely. I think the green is a wonderful color. Just needs a fresh coat.
Black and gold!
The gates look like they have the originals. Perfect. I think I like the colour black with (as another commentor suggested) gold highlights on the design pieces
Black gates. Classic and traditional color . I’m often impressed with the courage you have to tackle these massive projects!
I'd add gold accents to the black gates
Agree. Black with gold accents 100%. Screams sophistication and beauty. :)
Black gates . Not green
The transformation is wonderful! The green looks good but if you're going to change it, then black. Black looks so beautiful with the fancy bits. You could even emphasize certain parts with gold to make them stand out. Cheers from Sunny San Diego ⛱️ 🌴
I love your new gates but black is a good color as you see passed the gates to the beautiful buildings behind.
Black rot iron gate always looks good.
I like the green. An alternative would be a dark slate color to pick up the color of the roof as u look through the gate
Love the gate! I vote for a very dark green, almost black. Then maybe highlight the embellishments with gold leaf/paint.
I love the idea of highlighting the embellishments on the bottom panels with gold.
That will bring the elegance up several notches.
Totally agree.
I'm not sure gold embellishments are appropriate for a former convent. the gates on the chateau are a different story. I like the green also
Love the gates, I would paint them black. That’s an elegant classical colour. Also as someone else said pick out the fancy bits in gold. 😁
you can't go wrong with traditional black and gold!
Definitely high gloss black with gold leaf like highlights on the details.
The new entrance gates look great. A real dark magnolia leaf green (almost black, but green) would be my first choice. That dark color would balance with the weight of the architectural scale and design of the structure while welcoming the view of hardscape into the landscape within the court yard.
But green gates would then dictate the color for the whole project!
@@angmacleod Yes! It is the best color choice!!
I'd go with black. Tends to visually give the impression of strength and intimidation. Unless you're planning on planting some large arborvitaes on either side outside the gates, then ok with the green.
That would be my next color pick.
They look fantastic, and I love the green! Great find!
slate gray to match the roof and bright brass for the scroll bindings.
Green or cream would look nice on the gates! Sonia McVicar ☺
Billy, the new gates are beautiful and look like they were made to order for the convent! Take your time on the color choice, and ask yourselves whether you want the garden/courtyard to be the star, as you look through the gates, or the gates themselves. Love being able to watch your progress. Community must be ecstatic.
Kay Taylor…That’s a very logical way of thinking…sort the garden first
Garden and gates will complement each other, to see a beautiful courtyard though stunning gates is wonderful like a little sparkling gem, when your least expecting it on a walkabout
Gorgeous gates! Well done, and such wonderful help from all the crew of family and friends! Gates are lovely! I would paint them black. Black would allow the beauty of the stonework of the building to stand out and the gates would compliment the building. You have a lot of energy!
Bronze gates are nice, standard powdered black to🙂
Either that green, dark green or a dark blue would be amazing.
Oh-yes I think the gold accents would be PERFECT!!
Keep the gates green. Thank you for allowing us to come along with your adventure
Black definitely and I would love a little gold somewhere on top.
Hello Hilda how are you doing today
I would prefer Black Mat finish.
I too love the green! It’s such a beautiful set of gates.
Green is great!!!
Yes, love green!
