Very glad you've featured Kitt Peak. Public Evenings are simply exciting, the Visitor Center absolutely packed with information. Somehow I've always come away from the experience feeling high.
Ah yes kit peak I got to help move one of the largest (4M) mirrors up there from UA, took forever it seemed. And yes Tucson is an Astronomy town for sure, I use to hang out with Alan Hale (comet hale-bopp) and the Shumakers both of witch hand a telescope in there back yard there in SE Tucson. I helped build them also. I use to teach afterhours classes at Tucson High with grants from the Planetary Society back in the 80s . Tucson High use to have a telescope on the roof. UA use to have classes on building your own telescope. Dark sky that is why outside light must have a top cover and or they are yellow. The Black Cowboy museum is right at the bottom of the Mountain, fyi. Thanks for the wounderful videos. Keep it up. Thanks again. P.S. Two of the largest meteor collecters in the world also live in Tucson. cfc
Back in the late 80's I visited Kitt Peak many times, both in my camper and via motorcycles with both of my sons. Still occasionally wear a Kitt Peak T-Shirt with the Trifid Nebula on it.
I visited Kitt Peak several decades ago but it is still one of my most memorable trips ever. They included a view of the projected image of the sun which showed sunspots on the sun’s surface. That image is still ingrained in my memory.
That’s so cool. They are doing something special right now with the solar telescope that we will get to see once the new visitor center is open! Can’t wait!😀
I’m visiting Tucson, staying with my son’s family. He is an astronomer at the Large Binocular Telescope located on Mt. Graham northeast of Tucson while his wife also is an astronomer at NOIRLab (the organization that manages all the telescopes). Ironically they work mostly remotely from their offices on the campus of University of Arizona. But I’m sure they will take their son to the museum when he gets older.
Mt. Graham is northeast of Tucson, in the opposite direction from Kitt Peak. It's a really cool (both figuratively and literally since it's at 10k' elevation) place! I hope you got to visit while you were here.
@@jon630 Thanks for the correction! I was thinking Mt Graham is in southwest Arizona when I mistakenly referenced it to be southwest of Tucson instead.
Kimberly, Another Great Video ! Thanks for bringing out Kitt Peak. I've been there twice in 40 years, and think I need to go back after watching this. As always, your videos make me long for my home in Tucson. I'll be back for good in a couple of years. You WILL be my real estate person when I move back. Funny note, I've actually been there 3 times. One time I was flying my own small aircraft out of Tucson. I'd taken along a girl I worked with at Price Club, for an airplane ride. I flew over to Kitt Peak, and the winds were so strong, I decided to demonstrate how an airplane can go 'backwards' over the ground, due to strongish winds. Our airplane was moving in reverse (over the ground) but still happily flying at around 60 knots of airspeed. We broke it off as she was beginning to get air sick, but it was super fun due to Kitt Peak's high winds. Love your channel Kimberly ! Mike, Santa Cruz Ca.

That’s a good question. I know there are apps for that type of thing oh there. I would check the website as well to see what programs are running. They might be able to allude to what you will be able to see. 😀
That is a very good question and I don’t know the answer, but my guess would be that you have to be on a tour… It is extremely dark and hard to find your way around if you haven’t been before, and there are rules about where you can go after dark because so much research is being conducted at the center. But I may be wrong… it is an amazing place! Can’t believe it is located just outside of Tucson, Arizona!
Stargazing in central Tucson is disappointing because of all the light pollution from towering, blinding streetlights that are being installed all over town. Added to that are the numerous municipal and household spotlights, which should by law be motion sensitive only, and of a lower wattage, and often aren’t, staying on night and day. I see no evidence that Tucson has a dark skies ordinance. I’ve been a homeowner here for 23 years and I’ve watched my neighborhood become so bright and loud at night, neighbors who have been here since the 70’s are relocating. Please reign in your hyperbole. You want to see stars without driving miles outside of town to an observatory? Move to Sedona. They have a dark skies ordinance. You know how I know? Because it’s dark there at night.
It's true. I live pretty much smack dab in the middle of town, and it's pretty terrible. I remember the when they first put up the LED lights. The first one they put up was about 2 blocks from my house and I actually confused for a supernova at first! There has to at least 50 of those things around the square mile radius in which I live, and it's pretty damn depressing. Never mind the countless people who feel the need to put up spot lamps in there front and back yards, which secures nothing by the way.

Yes Kitt Peak is a wonderful place for sure!😀

@blackholeentry3489 Great Memories!
I grew up in Tucson. IT was the largest solar telescope at the time. Daytime visits to watch the Sun. Been all over it. People were cool back then
For the Astronomy Geeks: if you find yourself in LA, Griffith Observatory and Mt. Wilson Observatory are gems.
I visited Kitt Peak several decades ago but it is still one of my most memorable trips ever. They included a view of the projected image of the sun which showed sunspots on the sun’s surface. That image is still ingrained in my memory.

Last I heard visits were limited to weekends only at 60 people max per day. Glad to see it's open completely now.
They keep allowing more and more people for sure!

I love visiting Kitt Peak.
If you visit at night, visit an astronomy store and get yourself a RED flashlight for walking around at night.
Yeah the tours at night are super cool. 😀
Wasn't even aware of this. Thanks Kimberly!
You are welcome! It’s a super cool place!😀
Tucson is the best place for astronomy! Thanks for making this astronomical video, Kimberly!
Haha😂. Thanks! Tucson is definitely a great place for astronomy!

So glad you enjoyed the video! That airplane ride sounds quite frightening!😄 Looking forward to working with you!
Thanks for sharing Kim, great job as usual.
Glad to do it! Thanks😄
I've been in astronomy for 14 yrs and over 100's of web sites and never heard of this marvel of a location thats open to the public. When was it built?
It was established in 1958 I believe.

Is there a chart showing which planets one can see at different times of the year to help better plan a visit?

Well we live in a shit hole of a city. What do you expect?
