I completely agree with everything you said. I’ve been using the S5 for all of my client work for about a year now. I really believe I’m this camera to the point I’m going to buy a second S5 body for a B camera. Keep up the good work bud. I really enjoyed the video. You definitely got a new subscriber here.
Good stuff. I just found your channel. I'm considering picking up an S1 and I know a lot of the features between the two cameras are similar. Thanks for the video.
So in those face detection modes the yellow box does identify the subject, but pressing in the joystick confirms the subject lock and the auto focus is much better. That said, you still need to confirm when the subject leaves frame. Which doesn't happen as much in real life as it does in RUclips tests.
Exactly. I figured this out after a while and I must admit it's confusing at first as it's supposed to be "auto". You can lock on the subject on the screen too by touching the yellow box.
Agree with everything you mentioned here. Got mine a few weeks ago with cage and batteries barely used for around $1100. Glad you mentioned the box thing. Thought I was doing something wrong. Trying manual for the first time. Don’t know exactly how to do it, just twist that round thing on the lens and it seems to change the focus.
See I was trained in a cinema workflow. In cinema we shoot entirely in manual focus, having moved into videography for employment, I still shoot everything in manual focus and I do this on my S5. Just some tips to help you with your manual focus! Make sure you set your lens focus setting to linear. It’s a setting in your camera, I forget where it’s in the options so you will need to google it. Setting it to linear will make focusing much more reliable and accurate as it will now act like a vintage or manual focus lens. I won’t get into why here, if you’re interested, I’m sure the videos you can watch to help with that. Next one is to turn on focus peaking, this will outline objects that are on focus in a colour of your choosing. This will just make it easier to see if you’re focused on that tiny screen. Finally practice and practice! You’ll get there with manual focus and even if you move to a camera with reliable auto focus, it’s a powerful skill to have as a videographer or photographer! Stay healthy!
I agree with the video. I would like to say that L-Mount now has a wider lens selection than Canon RF or Nikon Z, although there is quite a way to go before it catches up to Sony. Only thing I miss in the system is a truly light-weight that's close to 70-200, something like the Tamron 70-180 f/2.8 for E Mount. With the Panasonic lineup of 1.8 primes, and Sigma offering the 1.4 and 1.2 glass at a reasonable cost, you can definitely get into L-Mount cheaper than into Z mount or RF mount. And this is without looking at the manual lens manufacturers. The two things I really miss in S5 are All-I or X-AVCS Video options, and a CFExpress slot to allow transfers to those. Love the 400 MBit on my GH5, and I think that would have been amazing here. But I'm sure we'll see a 4K 120 FPS shooting and ProRes enabled L-Mount camera from Panasonic in 2022-23. Cheers!
Absolutely man! I just wish you could get some native L mount glass for under $200 (with autofocus) like you can with rf and e mount but the L mount line up has come a long way! And I really hope Panasonic does a S5H soon! that will be a beast of a camera! Thanks for the input!!
Soon as phase detect hybrid autofocus is implemented into the L mount alliance, it will be a market leader. Waiting on it, DFD is a step up but it is behind the superior focus system of the leading brands. I can't let go of the Leica lenses so I can only hope for the hybrid focus system. 🙏🏻

Your video was in recommended, nice job, keep it up! I was surprised to see that your channel is relatively new. Thinking about to get s5 and yes, not so evident to find lenses for it. I use 50mm most times, 1.4f. Is it better to take Panasonic (so not cheep) or there are better alternatives?
Thanks man! I personally use sigma lenses, but the new Panasonic ones look pretty nice and are also a little less expensive / have a 1.8f. So those are the best of both worlds, but I think it also depends on what your going to be shooting.
So its better than the Sony alpha 7 3 right?? not S3 of course which is double the price, but I guess the autofocus is still better than the last Sony??

Tap on the screen when the square around the subject's head appears, you will confirm it and the camera will lock focus on it.

Another thing is that it's a camera that you can use for long form filming like streaming, conferences etc and it doesn't stop or over heat.
I’m buying one on Black Friday because the price is ridiculous. The beauty of coming from the GH5 is I’ve been forced to get good at manual focus. 😊

My issue is with the terrible screen latency in low light. I like doing time lapses and Astro, and the latency is complete sh#t in this environment.
I heard the new firmware udate almost fix the AF problem. Tell me if anyone knows about it.
