Quickest Mini on a Stock ECU?! | 520 HP Cooper JCW Big Turbo Prep.

- Once again, Lorenzo's (RPMPower) ridiculous R56 Mini Cooper JCW WC50 hits the streets in a very different state of tune than it was the last time I drove it. After a cracked sleeve finally gave up 3+ years into tuning, Lorenzo hit the drawing board to create the ultimate OEM-inspired closed deck block to hold the next wave of boost that'll be thrown at it. In addition, lightweight rods and higher compression pistons complete the bottom end. Today the car sits at a "modest" 520 whp on E60, with a big turbo on the way to (hopefully) propel this force of nature over the 600whp mark. Enjoy!

Just a quick update and drive today! We'll try to hit the dyno with Lorenzo once the new turbo goes on. Video doesn't do this car justice...

Where does he shop need help
4:45 says it's on FuelTech. (11:13 as well)
I'm confused by the title as well.
I actually like my built W11 Turbo Converted R52, and it's a beast at 330 WHP.
Sounds like a transformer changing 😂
nice, but to save the drama- just put k24 with humble turbo kit and you flying.RELIABLY WITH LOT OF TORQUE.
I did k20 on my r55 clubman. 450whp on stock motor. Super fun setup
@@jakech12345 what exactly did you need
But to offer another perspective, there are those of us, including myself, that prefer to leave the original heart (engine) of the vehicle in the car being built.
From my perspective, my R56 JCW wouldn't really be one anymore if I put a heart from another platform into it. If anything, it's a good thing to have other types of engines up and coming with solid aftermarket support, it keeps things interesting. I'd rather be able to say that my original and fairly unique N14 engine is out there cooking other people with the same types of engines everyone is after/using.
@@JustheresoIdontgetfined7Amen to what you said
Cant believe the cold side oem plastic tubing has not been changed @3:06. its a huge bottleneck for the engine. very disappointing to see that untouched still.
Yeah it has. Look closer.
Good old Peugeot engines 👌
Not BMW?
@markcozzie They're a PSA engine joint venture with Peugeot, Citroën and BMW only thing on it that's BMW really is the Vanos units I think
Im confused by the title saying stock ecu. Why wouldnt it have a stock ecu if its still powered by an N18? (What’s so significant about it still being on the stock ecu?) Its not like its engine swapped or anything.
Im assuming its an MSD dme like in similar time period bmw’s so all you have to do is a custom overwrite/flash (along with adding fueling, bigger turbo, etc). Im only experienced working on the newer bmw engines so i would like to know
The N14s and N18s never truly got real support, unlike the N54
The engine support has been there for a long time (pistons, rods, etc) to make this power but the fueling and correct timing has always been an issue.
The stock HPFP taps out at around 260whp worth of 93octane. And quite frankly to get to 260whp there was a lot of correction to the knock table, which caused a lot of premature failure in N14 and N18s.
Tuning this platform was locked down to only Manic brand for a very long time. Lorenzo is one of the few who actually has the software to truly make table adjustments on a stock DME.
Recently, there have been enhancements in 3rd party DMEs which finally support the triggers and fueling on N14s and N18s, and also support supplemental port injection (I cannot remember which brand off the top of my head). The added safety is much better but a lot more expensive
Lorenzo is running port off of a microdquirt I believe.
Most cars with big power runs a Stand alone. Good job Lorenzo!
@@ZachFrank714 Thanks Zach for explaining the limitations/history of the stock ecu. I've always been curious about mini's but never encountered one modified or tuned when i worked in a german shop so I never got to play with one
@@SicSemperBeats no problem. I owned several and actually blew one up thanks to a manic tune.
Lorenzo is a beast on this platform. I'm not going to lie either, back in the day I questioned what he would be able to due based on the limitations of the stock DME. He has clearly proven me wrong and I'm looking for another R56 now
@@ZachFrank714 what the actual fuck are you talking about?
Lorenzo is the only one who has the software for the ecu?
Changing knock tables to reach 260whp?
It’s manic‘s fault for blowing your engine up?
Fuel pump is limited at 300hp?
The software for an ecu calibration is called Winols and any reputable calibrator has it. Even I have it. Also you need time and a Funktionsrahmen for the ecu to make a good tune.
Manic had extreme knowledge due to a few good engineers and ties to BMW through the Mini Challenge. If you had ever in your life had seen a Manic file you would know that the knock maps are at stock sensitivity and all tuners around the world copied their work, even Lorenzo. The kind of knowledge is not obtainable through normal means.
The stock hpfp can manage 350hp.
The manic tunes definitely pushed the limits of the engine so maintenance is key.
As for me, I calibrate the ecu completely myself. My mini runs 320 hp on the flywheel, with a stock block except forged rods. The ecu still is in control of the boost with my bigger turbo setup.
Please refrain of talking like you’re knowledgeble.
Who makes that scoop ?
The hood scoop is a factory part on these JCW 50th Anniversary models. Rare car, and it added a few extra carbon bits and other mods.
On a stock 2024 JCW f60 countryman that is 302hp out of box what can I do to get 400 HP with minimum cost without causing serious drop in MPG.
Pretty easy to get near there cheaply
@@Modmaann what you recommend
Does it burn oil like my piece of shit peugeot engine on 79K.........Need an A series back in my life
Well done that's a super nice mini . I have just got a clubman cooper s to play with . God if I had lottery money I would have a go at building a fast mini .
Beautiful motor preparation
This thing is freaking epic...insane how refined it seems just cruising around
Damn I wish a supercharged platform could work like this because that supercharger whine is addictive
R56s are cool, but wheres that r60😅
Bruh fr, I have a jcw one and anytime he talks about it or the r61 hes on demon time calling it heavy for the engine 😭, break my heart
Any specifics on the E85 set up for this platform? My build plans are definitely more modest than Lorenzo’s but E85 would be a great addition to my current set up.
This is a sick build! There are 3 minis in Greece running 558whp, 590whp with 100 shot of nos and 650whp on race fuel. I'm aiming to build mine for 550-600whp
Bs
I am with a r58. Gunna kswap it with a Honda crv drivetrain
Wow, waaayyy too expensive for my budget, lol picked up a clubman Cooper with a blown Head Gasket for a few hundred dollars, i have a honda Acura tsx with a k24, im not looking for all that fancy stuff or 400hp, i just want my Cooper to be easy to drive and not high maintenance,
Damn 40k will pay off my farm and all my debts, your Cooper is waaayyy cool, But way too costly for my Budget 😅😂, ive grown out of the speed stage, lol just want a car that will hold 120mph for looong distances, on cross county road trips, just to keep up with traffic lol😅
😍😍😭Go mini , Go!!!
What an insane build!! 🤤
Looking at that engine, having watched the first video where you go into the build, and understanding Mario's background as an automotive engineer with unparalleled access to other engineers and resources this car is a pipe-dream for most.
Parts alone are probably $15-20K. Then labor for installation and tuning maybe another $10K.
It's great to see what's in realm of possible, but realistically its not probable.
Seems like a bargain to me. Pick up a dead engine JCW for five grand, ship it to Lorenzo for $2500 where he builds a 550 hp monster for $30k, ship it home for another $2500, 10k for a rebuild of suspension with coil overs, upgraded sway bars, polyurethane bushings, aftermarket wheels and track tires, 50k plus whatever other personalizations you want to throw in and you have a street legal sprint car that is less than, if not half the price of anything even close to it’s performance. It’s all about perspective but it’s not going to be in everyone’s budget just as a Z06 or a GT500 is not in everyone’ budget. Just sounds like a lot of fun to me!
Mini from hell, from Greece is the fastest
Is this an n18 stock head and valve train, does it still have valve tronic
N14 engine
i need the build list for this car. i want to build something like this
Always loved the mini. I love small and snappy car. This is is magical!!
Where's the key? And what clutch he running?
looks like $20k+ in mods to me....
Original block?
Can we get a full detailed video about what was done with this car please... I love it
Best resource as of now would be our original episode :D Things got nerdy. We'll be doing some more videos this season as well. ruclips.net/video/vpTxlZPBA68/видео.html
Sorry, I do not understand why you do not test this car on a circuit instead that drive it on normal roads with such low speed limits. Almost ridiculous.
Renting track time is expensive. The view count on this video wouldn't even pay for the fuel to get there. To put it bluntly. Trust me, I would LOVE to do circuit/track testing! Hopefully in the future we can make that happen.
You don’t gotta watch it
@@RoadsUntraveled Sorry for that, in our country we have many circuits not expensive to rent and all spread around and easily reachable. Monza, Imola, Misano, Mugello, Magione, and many others. Have a good evening.
@@manolikapotis5130 I watched because I own a Mini r56 jcw 375 bhp and I love to drive on circuits just changing tires to the Yokohama Neova 205/45/17, not 18 as speed is lower in comparison to the 17 size. Ciao. Gaetano
Hi, ovakav bolid me interesira , ja imam cooper s r56, interesira me ovakav projekt, jednostavno prekrasno...😮😮😂😂
If you did this on a R57 would it stay on the ground with there being no spoiler or anything?
I have to ask what rims are they, Do you want to sel them, or where can I find them...lol the paint super job!
Sick
💪 Insane power we would like to see some pulls vs some v8's or some other cars to compare the capacity of the build love rpm power products !!
100% I'm hoping we can do this coming up when it's warmer. Bragging rights are nothing without a few broken egos.
That things surging bad😅
you can only have 350hp on a front wheel drive car without loosing traction
Not even remotely true. All about how you put the power down.
Any information on the transmission at all? Surprised it's able to hold up and handle that much more power
You have to remember, the HP isn't your enemy....
It's torque and most of all TRACTION.
You'll start breaking factory Mini parts at 300+ WHP if the car hooks up hard.
@@blwnvtwnYeah torque is everything with a trans for sure! But I'll be damned, I'm all about traction - in my case probably would need a built trans..
👍
Awesome 👍
What turbo is this running?
rpm motorsport r300
The third gear pull was pretty weak🤔. More like close to 320hp flywheel.
Video never does justice. Maybe this season if we hit the track I can throw a GoPro on the speedo.
@@RoadsUntraveled does not have to do anything with the video. The rate the engine revs up is slow for said hp. It should rip like no tomorrow.
Lemme guess, you think the speedtech mini is faster than this? LOL ya wish
@@zevisgarage what? Who brought this idiot up and his car didn’t do even one pull on the street. I did compare the pull to mine (320 hp)and a friends Mini (360). Both pull harder then this. Maybe it was at a low boost setting I don’t know?
