Icon just had a fire and lost power. I think they said it's under control.
It's not about not launching for ship, it's about complying with international regulations of safety and security, including training and precautionary measures
A captain who abandoned a ship like he did should be punished and there should have been more punishments to others.

I have read all 151 pages of the final sentence against former commander Schettino. According to the judges he was much more than negligent: he was irresponsible, inadequate and cowardly. All the prosecution's evidence was admitted and largely scientifically confirmed. It was made clear that the commander independently decided on the maneuver and carried it out manually himself, even though he must have known that passing so close to the coast is absolutely prohibited by the navigation code. He decided to proceed at over 15 knots even though the regulation imposes a maximum speed of 5 knots for carrying out that type of maneuvers. The accusation on which the judges insisted most is for Schettino's unforgivable and very serious indecision in immediately giving the signal to abandon ship. It has been proven that if the lifeboats had been lowered even 35-40 minutes after the impact there would have been no victims, precisely because the port of Giglio was just over 250 meters away and the ship was almost stationary and not yet inclined. Italian "justice" gave him only 16 years in prison for multiple manslaughter, I would have added another 44 for the unacceptable and hateful failure to provide aid and another 40 for illegal transportation of feces in his skullcap
One thing that got my attention from a psychological perspective was the account of one passenger who had to swim to shore while her main concern was not losing her smartphone.
She was trying to save her life but her life was in her smartphone.
This is how powerful consumerism, social media and virtual life has become. It has become just as important as real, physical life itself.

I'm sorry, but... a massive ship just turned on its side. There are dead people inside of it, others are drowning this very second. She needs to swim to safety. There are people ashore. People in her exact same situation. If she gets to the shore, she will survive. She will be able to call home. She will be able to write home. She will be able to go home.
De Falco had an excellent reason for being upset and aggressive with the Captain. The Captain should have stayed on that ship to coordinate a rescue,. alerted the passengers and the Coast Guard immediately and then made sure the passengers got into lifeboats. Had he acted fast enough there's a possibility that no one would have died. Why wait around? Did he think the ship was going to repair itself?
41:24 he wasn’t villainized for the accident. That truly was a mistake. But he abandoned that ship…THAT is what people couldn’t forgive.
Great mystery what and who was in command of the bridge. I was on a notable cruise ship and we briefly lost electrical power. When power was restored the captain announced all was well. I thought that could not be right all the elevators are likely offline. I was right everyone on an elevator was trapped on an elevator. The Captain's announcement really upset the trapped passengers. He later announced his regret for the grievously upset passengers.
I believe the captain did the best he could. But it was not enough in this case. He was not suitable for the job and unable to do correct decisions in such a stressful situation.
Every single employment sector no matter what you do .. if you dont work for yourself if you work for a company even small companys as small as 4-5 people.. there will always be overlooked safety protocols companies might have saftey guides set in place they might even have mandatory saftey meetings with certified instructors and also employees require to sign weekly saftey reports ... but sadly none of this is for the employees saftey ... it is to lower the workers compensation rates it is to avoid law suites ... and given that accidents within one company will statistically be few and far apart .. the saftey meetings are quick and done on pay day everyone just want to leave asap... and weekly reports are signed but never actually read by the men ... company dont care ... productivity efficiency turnover ... thats all that matters ... one mid scale accident a year is planned for in the budget..... SAFTEY COMES DOWN TO THE INDIVIDUAL... ALWAYS ... YOU DECIDE IF YOULL SPEAK UP OR IF THIS JOB IS WHERE YOU WANT TO BE .. THE PERSON CARRYING OUT THE JOB IS ALWAYS RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR ACTIONS OR INACTIONS... ITS EASY TO BLAME THE BIG CORPORATIONS BUT ITS THE EMPLOYEES THAT LET THEM GET AWAY WITH CERTAIN PRACTICES...
