For me, I have a high powered video card in my desktop. I used a HDMI cable converted to Mini HDMI. The Mini HDMI hooks up to the asus monitor while the HDMI cable hooks up to my computer. Cable can be found on Amazon :).
I'm wondering if mine has been defective all this time or did I miss anything? I'm using a 2013 MacBook Pro. I never got to use the monitor with just the USB-C cable connected to my laptop, I always have to plug it in on its own which is such a hassle.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the 2013 Macbooks doesn't have Display Port over USB-C since it's an older laptop. That option is usually available for newer laptops. I find that some of my older laptops i would have to power it on individually and use the HDMI port on the laptop and monitor.
@@pamelajacinto Oh, in that case it should work! Did you use the cable provided with the monitor? When it comes to USB-C Cables, it's important to make sure to use the cable it comes with it if you're unsure. USB-C cables are a mess sometimes. Some cables do charging only , some cables are lower speed, etc... If you can, try using the cable that come with the monitor. It should be just plug and play.
I want to buy this monitor and connect it to an Asus Ally X handheld console. Can I power the monitor from one type c port and display the image from the other? My goal is to prevent the handheld console from providing both display and electricity power. I think that performing both functions from the PD type c port will increase the thermal load on the handheld console. Am i wrong? Wouldn't using two separate type c inputs of the monitor reduce the workload of the handheld console?
I've mainly dealt with the monitor for laptops that provide power and video from a single USB-C port. Using it on my Mac and PC, I don't notice any more thermal increase than the normal use. I'm not sure how Asus Ally X will perform on this, but if it's engineered correctly, providing power and display to a single device shouldn't cause thermal spikes because USB-C can provide the bandwidth to do so.
If you're using USB-C, power and data flows through one cable. The monitor doesn't have a battery so it doesn't need charging, just a regular power source. If you're using HDMI, then you'll need to power the monitor with the USB-C and the power brick supplied with the monitor.

Some third party apps might let you "extend" it to the second monitor if you use the USB-C port on the iPad, however, natively it only mirrors what your iPad sees.

Can this be used to extend an iPad Pro with Magic Keyboard (USB-C ports to iPad and keyboard)?

Does the set include a carrying case or does it have to be purchased separately?
Comes with a nice little carrying case as well. It's nice and compact and can fit in a regular sized back pack :).

Yup! I hooked it on my desktop computer. Just make sure your desktop can support the USB-C or mini HDMI connector or have a conversion wire handy :).
