    I watched this video when it came out and the cueing around hip position relative to the rear axle was something I’d literally never heard before. Since then I’ve been giving it a shot on the trails and it’s like hitting boost pads in Mario Kart. This video totally changed the way I look at trails. Thank you for that.

      it's funny, because the first tutorial I saw was Lee and Alex's from Joy of bikes, and they explain this as a row-counter row motion. however, the end result of the counter row is essentially the same, it moves your hips back when it's time to pump. and the other advice here to not go too far back is addressed with the row motion on the upward side of the berm.
      I moved from a small 27.5 inch bike to a medium 29er and noticed immediately I wasn't as fast on the track. i wonder if the linger chainstay on the larger back is just far enough that my hips aren't going back enough. I can still pump and accelerate, just not as easily.

      This is it! What bebovito siad. I started riding this year.. I watch tons of skills tutorials.. like really tons.. all parts of the world.. great youtubers often amazing riders.. they know how to ride and make videos.. but K&A tutorials are godsend! Your have something special to this.. and I mean I understand and catch some details better.. it is explained better.. in order.. I think it is really April, her trust in you.. but also you being really careful with her and the blend of your explanations for her and simultaneously for us.. the only thing that can beat you is real life instructor taking me for a spin.. directly correcting my riding.. with years of experience and tricks that they rather not show on internet. Great great stuff!

      Agreed. The slow motion, stopped frame explanations really offered something better than the generic "just pump with your legs" - explanation that similar videos usually offer.

      Yeah, thanks for this-I hit the local pump track with a another video for guidance but didn’t get beyond simply maintaining speed… your additional detail and explanations about the weight transfer are clearly what I was missing. Looking forward to trying it out on the track!

    These lesson videos are just fantastic! So insightful and clear. All the comments about you being a great coach are spot on, Kyle. What makes it even better is that you're a great demonstrator, April. I realise you both put a lot of time into your parts but in the edit the difference in April's body position is so clear to see and make it easy for the viewer to understand what Kyle has said. That's a real plus and it's not easy to do because people always think their movements are more dynamic than they actually are. It kinda involves exaggerating movements but not so much that it looks forced. Such a strong pairing for teaching. Plus you seem like really cool people. Well, fanboying over!! Thanks for the content, I'm already riding better as a result :)

Sort of a mental warm-up that would help them fast forward their skill development. I must have watched your videos dozens of times now and it's made a Huge difference to my riding and confidence.

    Your videos are god like man. Your clear and very detailed, your teaching opposed to showing people this cool thing you can do and your super encouraging to your gf. The subtitled and audio is also great. Thank you. Apparently I've been pumping wrong all along, I'm BMX now MTB but same concept. I would push down my front end more than rear axle. Also your jumping has videos has helped me try and get more comfortable. I don't have it down yet but, I'm trying. Having difficulty driving my body up. Man your videos are sooooo helpful. Through the years I've watched probably every video from all of the big channels like Seth, Phil, GMBN, etc., and no one explains how to do things like you do. I think it's a massive help that you're actually training someone during the video, so we can see the mistakes we're also making ourselves and see why we're doing it. Even this video alone, you showed so much more about pumping than any other video I've seen. Especially the pushing forward, when to push forward, etc., but not only that I finally understand why fast riders on RUclips are constantly pushing down on their bikes while riding trails. I always thought they were pushing down on their bikes to kind of prepare in case anything was coming up, but they're just doing mini pumps. Also the way you pushed down a couple of times on the flat area before you got to the actual pump in the trail made so much more sense now that I see why you're doing it.
    Thanks for all of your videos, you all are freaking awesome!

    • @AprilRideMTB
      @AprilRideMTB  4 года назад +1

      Wow! Thank you so much! Honestly its been so fun to do these and i think one of the keys is that we try really hard to do them without referencing other tutorials, so each one is kind of just the actual understanding that I have from riding for years professionally and instead of trying to regurgitate what some other lessons have said its just how I have learned it over the years if that makes sense? Also i think a lot of times the person editing is different than the person teaching so the nuances get skipped over. it seems like a lot of people learn in a similar visual way to April and I and its been so cool to see the response from everyone! You guys make these videos possible! Thank you so much for watching and for the kind words!

    • @Hardcaslte
      @Hardcaslte 4 года назад

      @@AprilRideMTB Yeah for sure, and I'm obviously not trying to knock the other channels since they've also done a great job on their videos and I have learned a lot from them. There's just that little something extra in yours, and I really do think it's because most of us can relate to the skill level that April is riding at and we can visually see ourselves doing the same things she's doing while we're learning. It's also super inspiring knowing that this stuff doesn't need to take 4 years of practice, it just needs better application of the technique you're showing to really see the benefits.

    Kyle & April, great to see your continued growth and support from the biking community in what your are doing. Have commented in the past and reiterate that the way you are breaking down the skills, showing and comparing body positions, drawing lines, explaining cause/effect, highlighting common mistakes, and watching the progression has been great for myself and to pass on to my son. Watching the 'how to pump' tutorial revealed more key tips, particularly those hips just past the rear axle (more than just legs pumping down!). Look forward to some jump tutorials, and also help with progression handling transition from blue to black (steepness) jumps in the future. Best wishes, Stuart
