I saw them at the Warfield in San Francisco in 1997. A small guy was drunkenly wobbling in front of me and kept leaning into me. It was Gary Young. He told me, "I used to be in this band." And I was like, "Yeah, man, you're awesome!"

Saw him a couple times. He was a mess sometimes, but a very good drummer. If you think about it, the drumming on S&E has a lot of iconic little touches that everybody recognizes and are highlighted in the live show that, from what I can tell, were all Gary. Examples: the sixteenth note hi hats in "Here" with the little snare "uhs" or whatever. The hi hat thing in "Summer Babe". his sound was definitely a lot different that Steve West, who had a more "behind the beat" feel. Larry was more driving with very "proggy" fills and whatnot.

Zero thumbs down!!! 🙌 haha hells yeah Pavement! You don't see that often on RUclips and although this isn't the most viewed video of all time, I still think it having not one thumb down speaks to Pavement's deep influence and true greatness. Influence that is still very much evident in today's alt and indie rock scenes ...I just wish I wasn't 2 years old when this performance went down - would have been so rad to see these guys jam out live in their 90s heyday!

Pavement was a casualty of the early DEI agenda, Record companies began pushing crap/rap right when they were blossoming. Same thing happened to my band but worse, overnight the record company connects that flew in and loved us, all told us the word from up top is to sign rap acts and stop signing musicians(not their words) If it wasn't for this garbage Pavement would have been huge.
