Great reaction guys, laughed my arse off with the confusion all over your faces😂. Broken Cowboy is a masterpiece from The Dead South and i can't stop listening to it. You should give it a go, i promise no wierd shit😊.
Haha you missed the opening line, which sets the tone! “Tore up the restraining order, I don’t care I’m coming over, what your daddy said isn’t going over too well, don’t you know not to kiss and tell.” 😂😂
The idea about playing in public on the back of a flatbed truck is taken from the LEGENDARY video to It Is A Long Way To The Top If You Wanna Rock n Roll that AC/DC made decades back! -They were playing bagpipes and rock while rolling through an australian city. You guys should definetly check it out. -It is back when they had the original lead Singer Bon Scott!
You know these dudes are from Canada! Some folks think bluegrass is from WV/TN/KY but not so! They do have a satirical wit they put in their music/performances 😂😂
One of my favorite parts of being a fan of TDS is introducing people to this song just to watch their reaction. This is always their final encode song.
Coming from the actual Dead South (Birchwood, Tennessee) I was actually surprised I've NEVER dated my cousin😂 However my sister is also my sister in law😂 She married my husband's brother, I'm a metal head but I enjoy all music, and in all honesty it's hard to beat a banjo😂
I think it needs to be said that the narrator of the song didn't know he fell in love with his cousin until after his mom told him. So this song is about him coming to terms with the reality that the woman he loves is his cousin.
Man this should be funny af I love playing people some of the other songs first and then dropping this one on em. Just when they are like these guys are good. Cue BANJO ODYSSEY LOL
I love these guys, One of the places they recorded on the back of the trailer was just outside of my work at the time. Freakin awesome seeing the video after being there when it was getting made. :D
You've probably found this out already, but it was actually The Iliad and The Odyssey, 2 different books/poems by Homer. The Iliad was during the Trojan War and didn't feature Odysseus, The Odyssey was after the Trojan War and focused on Odysseus as he tried to get back home from the war.
FYI the 8 hours on the flat bed was around Toronto. Same as In Hell I'll Be In Good Company. They did the two videos at the same time. The bad is from Rigina Saskatchewan.
Hey guys. My brother emailed Brant Slay of the Chickasaw mudpuppies ( unrelated but awesome band) and asked him what some of the lyrics were because they weren't clear on the recording. BRANT said he thought the music should be how the listener hears it. Artistic interpretation. It means what YOU the listener wants it to mean.
Another Rabbit hole for you to jump into, gonna enjoy this too! Perhaps not the variety of Ren, but top notch for sure! My favourites are this, Black Lung and Gunslingers Glory... but it is hard to pick favourites!
So just for a little context when listening to The Dead South many of their songs are satirical in nature. According to Wikipedia (and you know they are always correct) "The band refers to themselves as "Mumford and Sons' Evil Twins", a nod to their dark and often violent interpretation of the "aesthetic of old western pioneers"."
I could've swore this song was longer. I'm pretty sure sometime first summer of pandemic they drove around and played for different towns doing free mini shows.. I'm pretty sure it was them. Anyway I love this song. At first I thought it was weird too but you gotta hear the whole song, right? Idk I love listening to it loud in the car on long car rides..lol its a fun song to jam to.
lol. They love to joke around. And my literal self says, to be fair, most of the royalty and rich houses in Europe are related. Charles and Camilla. Even Megan is on there. It's wild when you start looking into it.
I was making the same face on that part " guess she needs lovin anyway". Ive never heard this one either just heard the in hell ill be in good company before I can not vibe with this weird song. This song got me wanting to go back to the song in hell ill be in good company for what its about 🤔😊
i don't think you're supposed to rationalize the actions of the subject of the song. like with most of their songs, they're just stories of messed up people. people don't seem to notice the lines "Tore up the restraining order, I don't care I'm coming over" and "Pulled you out by your hair, If people ask I was never there"
It’s funny to me that so many people miss that this is supposed to be funny. Part of the reason is probably because they are so damn good it’s hard not to take them 💯 seriously.
If you haven't heard "Dixon Dallas - Good Lookin' " yet, lol. On the topic of Adam and Eve, all the biblical illustrations Eve has a belly button, soooo.....why, if she was "created"
Super late to this reaction but screw it. Asked "are they playing into the stereotype?" and yes, yes they are. The song is a satirical play on the stereotype of blue grass. As for the "She's my brothers daughter and I don't even know who's my father" is 2 parts. The mom is saying "she's my brothers daughter", he's replying with "I don't even know who's my father" implying that the mom may be guilty herself, in other words, she might not be his cousin but his sister. It's a really dark satirical song. As for the "she's saying slow down"...it's because he's driving down the highway speeding. There's not some deeper meaning there, just reckless driving.
This is the 2nd best song about family love. You should definitely listen to I am My Own Grandpa. There are many versions, but I think Ray Stevens did it best!
I was raised in Appalachia. The stereotype is not far from the truth. Typically, 3rd cousins are not off limits. 2nd cousins are questionable. You can guess the rest. This is the culture, unfortunately. This is why I moved as far away as I could (2000 miles) as soon as I could.
Do "The Recap" from The Dead South next. It's about a guy who gets into a fight in a bar (no incest involved). 😆 There's a suspicion that the one he gets into a fight with is himself.
yesssss this was the one i was hoping for after In Hell ill be in good company! haha! Of course its satire of the hillbilly stereotype! Look what theyre wearing lol Amish clothing! These guys grew up with rock n roll the banjo player always played metal music and for christmas one year he got a banjo probably as a joke gift id assume but he realized real quick that he was good at it and they switched genres the singer realized his rock voice transitioned perfectly over into this bluegrass, underground, folk rock, country type shit! Lets dress like the most ridiculous country boys oh I know Amish folks.. Haha! Diamond Ring is a killer video of theirs its like a mini movie ..when your baby wants a diamond ring and you cant afford one what are you willing to do for it? haha
Small town in there start have no one else than family to mabe fall in love or force to married for the family continu . Thats why you will see almost 1 or 2 named every 4 people you see
I completely understand wanting to believe. Honest. But, is Genesis lying about there being just Adam & Eve, if there's a whole nutha' level of civilization that we/they are wholly unaware of?! (Like that shit w/the tree?!!)
Because the first people didn't have birth defects. So they multiples and then those mutations and defects developed from sin. Or that is what the bible suggests. That is one of the reasons Noah was chosen as well. The stories take trips in the bible, give it a read.
As soon as I saw the title and your face I started giggling. Hilarious reaction. These guys are from Canada and have quite the sense of humor
Same here . "I don't have a clue what this is about"
Oh... you will. ;p
This song is pure sarcasm about stereotypes.
Great reaction guys, laughed my arse off with the confusion all over your faces😂.
Broken Cowboy is a masterpiece from The Dead South and i can't stop listening to it. You should give it a go, i promise no wierd shit😊.
The Dead South are a 🔥 band, aside from the satire of stereotypes. They are a tight modern Bluegrass band
Haha you missed the opening line, which sets the tone!
“Tore up the restraining order, I don’t care I’m coming over, what your daddy said isn’t going over too well, don’t you know not to kiss and tell.” 😂😂
We thought it was just a pleasant walk in the woods until the banjo music started. It is like that great love story Deliverance. Lol
One of the greatest love stories, just a mountain man his little piggy
😮😮😂😂
The idea about playing in public on the back of a flatbed truck is taken from the LEGENDARY video to It Is A Long Way To The Top If You Wanna Rock n Roll that AC/DC made decades back! -They were playing bagpipes and rock while rolling through an australian city. Melbourne, my city, in the late 70’s. Also known as long way to the shop if you want a sausage roll.
Absolutely iconic Australiana
You know these dudes are from Canada! Some folks think bluegrass is from WV/TN/KY but not so! They do have a satirical wit they put in their music/performances 😂😂
Look up tramples by turtles
Nobody ever reacts to this, glad you did.
I love their music. This was a great find. Playing on the hillbilly stereotype, and the audience doesn’t know what hit them…😂
One of my favorite parts of being a fan of TDS is introducing people to this song just to watch their reaction. This is always their final encode song.
You have me laughing on the floor! Love the face reactions and puzzled looks, bahahaha.
Coming from the actual Dead South (Birchwood, Tennessee) I was actually surprised I've NEVER dated my cousin😂 However my sister is also my sister in law😂 She married my husband's brother, I'm a metal head but I enjoy all music, and in all honesty it's hard to beat a banjo😂
really killing it with these reactions 👌
I think it needs to be said that the narrator of the song didn't know he fell in love with his cousin until after his mom told him. So this song is about him coming to terms with the reality that the woman he loves is his cousin.
Broken Cowboy must be the next!! Great reaction guys!!
It’s basically a tongue in cheek song about what the stereotypical impressions of the people that live in the Appalachians.
Amazing to see live! I was lucky to do that last Jan when they came down under
This is my favorite song of theirs, its dripping with sarcasm on the hillbilly stereotype, its hilarious to me but a fantastic song to the ears
FYI the 8 hours on the flat bed was around Toronto. Same as In Hell I'll Be In Good Company. They did the two videos at the same time. The bad is from Rigina Saskatchewan.

whole thing is filmed in downtown Toronto :)
A lot of their songs are tongue in cheek like "Fat little killer boy", lmfao 😂
Love. Love. LOVE. The Dead South!❤❤... hah- "are we going to just let that slide?!". Hee, hee, that's the whole song.
In most states you can marry your first cousin. By the 1950s we'd learned that immediate family is too close but cousins are no problem.
The best part is they had no idea what they were bout to get into 😂
You really need to do bastard son by the Dead South.
My rec for the next Dead South song would be The Recap. Its super fun as well.
That bastard son is another banger
It's fun to see you guys try different genres.
They are singing about a character. It's a story. Is that really so hard to process?
I could've swore this song was longer. I'm pretty sure sometime first summer of pandemic they drove around and played for different towns doing free mini shows.. I'm pretty sure it was them. Anyway I love this song. At first I thought it was weird too but you gotta hear the whole song, right? Idk I love listening to it loud in the car on long car rides..lol its a fun song to jam to.
Omg hilarious 😂😂😂
Bluegrass has a history of just dirty songs about death and booze and car crashes and shit. They playing on all that in this song
Wait what they say? I love it

Mother said, "she's my brother's daughter" ... I guess she's my cousin

The last part of the song he drives them into the sea to kill them both so they can he together in death.

Plz check out Away by Cam Cole. He's a busker but, very pro about it
I remember the first time I heard this song and was just flabbergasted
If you are on a mobile stage, is it still busking??
OR is it busk-trucking??

Y'all had me laughing so hard.
lol. They love to joke around. And my literal self says, to be fair, most of the royalty and rich houses in Europe are related. Charles and Camilla. Even Megan is on there. It's wild when you start looking into it.

Canadian bluegrass

Is it the Death South or the Deep South? Seriously though, love this song.
They are the definition of a meme lol
The best white parody 😅😅
you should give Wheeler Walker Jrs Family Tree a try if you liked that one
It’s funny to me that so many people miss that this is supposed to be funny. Part of the reason is probably because they are so damn good it’s hard not to take them 💯 seriously.
WENT FROM POUND TOWN TO POUND COUSIN WTFFFFF
For Canadians they know how to strike low blows.
Cain went unto the Land of Nod. (I spin a lot of time studying Torah.)
See you guys cringe I lean into and love this song. This is an amazing song
If you haven't heard "Dixon Dallas - Good Lookin' " yet, lol. On the topic of Adam and Eve, all the biblical illustrations Eve has a belly button, soooo.....why, if she was "created"

Man that song is so fucked up but it's so damn catchy though
Cool👌 try black lung 👍

In Hell I'll Be Good Company is a great jam. About a guy that murderes his cheating wife and how he is excited to be with her in Hell.
Do "The Recap" from The Dead South next.
It's about a guy who gets into a fight in a bar (no incest involved). 😆
There's a suspicion that the one he gets into a fight with is himself.
Where would Cain go where there were other people who weren't his brothers or sisters if his parents were Adam and Eve?
yesssss this was the one i was hoping for after In Hell ill be in good company! haha! Of course its satire of the hillbilly stereotype! Look what theyre wearing lol Amish clothing! Homer wrote it.
Day 16 asking for “take me back to Eden” by sleep token
I completely understand wanting to believe. Honest.
But, is Genesis lying about there being just Adam & Eve, if there's a whole nutha' level of civilization that we/they are wholly unaware of?!
(Like that shit w/the tree?!!)
Kissing cousins... say it Don.. 🤣
think you guys got pranked.
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Because the first people didn't have birth defects. So they multiples and then those mutations and defects developed from sin. Or that is what the bible suggests. That is one of the reasons Noah was chosen as well. The stories take trips in the bible, give it a read.
They have talent you two don't 😂😂😂
Dang, dude! Forget about asking if it's moral, is it even legal?
It's just a fun, silly song- you guys are too serious. Maybe you should listen to some serious Dead South.
That's some Redneck Romance
Just watched the eminem reaction you gotta react to the live its better
