Sounds like the crew handled things totally fine. Training and professionalism are important but working cooperatively together nearly always comes out well.
thank you for doing this and for matching up ATC and cabin talk with the movement of the plane and the graph. Helps you visualise what was going on and how well they handled it. Good to know how well-trained these guys are. Thanks so much.
I've never been in an aircraft that declared an emergency. With that said I was an Air Traffic Controller during the Vietnam war and have handled lots of emergencies. But, being on the ground vs being in the air are two completely different experiences. As always thanks for the video especially from the viewpoint of the other side of an emergency.
Great video! Thank you for sharing this. Thank God for a good crew! I hope you never have to experience anything like that again, in or out of the cockpit!
An engine failure in cruise is probably one of the rarest types of failures on a turbofan airplane. Very interesting. Thanks for the comprehensive video.
Wild experience! Surprised you haven't run into more seeing how much you're on a plane, so that's comforting. Cool documentation. Someone owes that crew a few drinks.
wow, yeah, no fun. My plane was hit by lightning on the east coast - Florida to Pittsburgh once. Really not fun. All engines down. Then all fired back up. Weird state of limbo just coasting through the air... :P

Glad you and the rest are ok Lou. Scary stuff and it seems the fellow passengers handled it quite well. And if you are spending any significant time in KC, you owe it to yourself to do a little flippin. Kuddos the pilots.Stay safe Buddy
I've never had an engine failure in an airplane I've had a semi-catch on fire that was rather interesting right next to tanks that were holding crude oil. I can honestly say that scared the living hell out of me but I have to admit watching the video I appreciate it how calm you were and if it ever happens I do know for a fact that one engine can make it it's pretty interesting on how they design these aircrafts they're pretty bulletproof they're not fail proof but they are pretty solid. But coming from a truck driver on the ground and seeing a pilot like yourself I appreciate it and I learned something so I do appreciate the video very much and I watched it with intense I'm glad you're safe and glad you're okay cuz I enjoy watching your videos Lou. I hope you made it home with your family safe and I hope they got a chance to hug you. take it easy
I was on that flight! Thanks for doing a video on this, because there was no news coverage. It was very scary for being a mere passenger. I was saying my prayers.
This happened more then I would have liked when I was a Flight Attendant for USAir. I would also say to the front end, I would rather it happen up high then on take off… ->-
Every airplane turns into a glider if all the engines fail, whether it be a single-engine plane or 4-engines. How far it can glide depends on the altitude and best glide speed. From 41,000 ft, it may be able to glide close to 100 miles.
@@wayneparris2626 what do they do if it’s over the ocean, is it typically a death wish or are most of them able to land on water like that one guy in the movie
@@jdssurf The plane I fly (B777), we have to stay within 3 hours of a "suitable airport" for Extended Overwater Operations (ETOPS). If we have an engine failure, we turn 45 degrees and get off the airway, and drift down to an altitude we can maintain on one engine, then divert to our nearest suitable airport. If the other engine fails, we glide until we reach the ocean, then attempt to land in the water. If we have a major cargo fire over the ocean, we only have about 15 minutes or so before we need to be landing in the ocean for a good chance at survival, depending on where we are in the world. Cargo fires are MUCH more serious than engine failures--and probably more likely. We just pray that never happens!
That was a little scary. On another subject I have a question. I have been watching a few of your Palm Springs road cruising for snakes at night. It seems like a lot of people are out there doing it. We are heading down to Joshua Tree in April 2023 to photograph snakes and lizards. We are driving down from Salt Lake City and will be very close to Palm Springs. Can you give me an idea which road or roads to look for snakes at night? Any info would be really appreciated. Thanks, Ron
Things in the desert usually start moving mid to late April depending on the temps. Joshua Tree should be good. Really any road in the desert should have snakes on at from about an hour before sunset until midnight and later. Can’t really share exact spots on here. If you read the comments, some mention the roads….. Lou B
Glad it doesn’t happen often. Great landing. I flew a Spirit & won’t again when the plane landed, braked do hard I thought the plane was falling apart. Some pilots should give it up. 😂
@@loub747 that's crazy. Good that u guys in aviation know the ins and outs how to ride it out! I haven't flown in a decade. I may need to in the coming year so. great knowledge
It is not fun to divert, but it happens and the pilots are trained for it. I had engine shutdown on 757, they flew for an hour more to burn fuel and then we landed. It was hard on the brakes to get her stopped with the heavy load and only one reverse thruster.
