- In this video, I'll show you how I made this simple shop dolly using 2x4s and swivel casters.
Tools needed: tape measure, combination square, miter saw, electric drill and bits, air compressor, and a staple gun.
Materials used: (2) 2x4s 8 feet long, (8) swivel casters, construction screws, ribbed carpet, and glue.
You'll see in this video how I put these shop dolly's together stepped by step. I even discuss tips to straighten your wood to ensure the shop dollies are as flat as possible.
This was a fun project building these dollys and they are already coming in handy! We used them on several jobs including a job we completed shortly after finishing this video. If you have any questions on making a shop dolly please leave them below!

Sorry if I missed it, but what purpose does the carpeting serve? Is it just to keep it non-marring?
this video is just what I needed, I'm going to build a dolly
lets go! its an easy build and its great to have a shop dolly in your shop
Great job! I've made a bunch of these for myself and friends. I do a couple things different. Use lap joints so the 2x4's are all level and flat and you can put a flat top on them if desired. Don't staple on the top of the 'rug' instead glue it down and only staple on the edges. That way no chance of snagging a staple on material being moved. Really like the idea of 3" wheels I've always made them with 2.5". I think you are right that 3" is better.
excellent explanation, well detailed. Thanks a lot. It is what I was looking for

Thanks man!
Thanks! How much weight do you think this can handle?
Aren’t those those like that $10 at Harbor freight
lol they might be, always fun to build a small project to get better at building
No. Those are 1 by's. These are way more heavy duty
A year ago it cost $25 to make this. Today it costs over $5,000,000 just for the casters.
😂😂😂 that is a straight up fact!! Inflation got us all in the blender 🌪️
$13 at Harbor Freight.
Let's get it!
Nope. Way thinner wood. Your HF ones will break with half of the weight that these can hold.
Sorry for the buzz kill but yeah....i bought one at Harbor Freight for $12 today. Lots less than the cost you spent. Very good explanations of how to build of any size though. Keep up the good work.
Sorry, but you bought dolly's made from 1x4s not 2x4s. These will hold way more weight than your HF ones.
I did the same with Woodglut :)
We use ours all the time now
Why not stop calling things "bad boys"? Also, the word basically, used as a placeholder, is distracting. Basically, a dolly is a lumber frame on casters. After that, one is not "basically" building a dolly, one is simply building one.
One key similarity you have with all the other foolish comments I receive is NO CONTENT for me to study. Instead of coming here to bash how I speak or the choice of words I use how about you go create something for the world to see....
If not, you're "basically" feeble human that finds joy in speaking negative to other people.
@@Wouldwoodwork crazy how people can find any reason to be negative and/or unappreciative. Choosing beggars and all that. Thanks for the video. This will help me when I build cabinets and need to move them around my shop!
