Fun Fact: in the book Death of WCW, David Arquette actually was against the idea of putting the WCW World title on him saying he was "undeserving". While Arquette had to go along with the plan, he also sent all the money he made in WCW to the families of Brian Pillman and Owen Hart as well as Darren Drozdov aka Droz
Oh, it gets better. Tony Schiavone originally pitched putting the strap on Arquette AS A JOKE during a meeting. Russo took it seriously, and well ... here we are today.
He also came back to wrestling a few years ago proving he could be a decent wrestler. Granted he shouldn't have won the title, but he wasn't the main problem with this entire situation.
Vacant is also a multi-time champion in boxing. He took the title from guys like Ali, Tyson, Holyfield, and Mayweather just to name a few. Truly one of the greatest athletes of all time.
I don't see how this is even a debate. Russos' reign was a thousand times worse than Arquette. Although it didn't happen, Arquette winning at least had the potential at getting some mainstream attention for the company. Arquette also knew him winning wasn't a good idea, because he respected the wrestling business. Can't really say the same for Russo. Also, Arquette donated all of his WCW paychecks to the widows of Brian Pillman and Owen Hart. That's a very class act if you ask me
DanTheMan0531 Also donated to Droz too after his career ending injury...say what you want about him, but at least Arquette put others before himself during his run as champ
There's actually one notable belt Vacant never held: the original ECW Championship was never vacated during the company's entire run, going all of the way back to the Eastern Championship Wrestling days
TheManWithoutFear no, 1999 was the year that WWF played hot potato with their belt. And look at who was writing the show: the guy who wrote WCW in 2000!
I still say Arquette's reign could have been salvaged if he'd come out on the next Nitro, said it was only a fluke that he won the belt, that he didn't deserve it, and voluntarily gave it up. You could then have had the Page-Jarrett match on PPV for the title, and while Arquette would be on the books as a past champion, it would have been put over as "...except he pinned a non-wrestler and only got it because of a bizarre stipulation." Yes, this is one case where I think that immediately vacating the title would have actually IMPROVED matters.
Vacant is an amazing gimmick actually. He is the personnification of the Void. He is a neutral figure (neither face or heel) acting as a supporting authority/wrestling scholar. His allegiance always goes to the promoter, no matter whether he is immoral or not. He just states cold facts as answer to arguments. He never takes side, not even for himself. His only particularity is how he tells everyone that he is the Alpha and Omega of wrestling and how their efforts are vain because championships come back to him in one way or another. Some envious contenders try to beat the shit out of Vacant and strip the belt by force, but Vacant doesn't sell. No matter if it's a superkick, a Shining wizard, a powerbomb on a table or the most powerful finisher. He gets up and immobilizes the antagonist everytime. He doesn't defeat them in a spectacular way, no, he just kills off their aggressiveness. His downside is that he absolutely doesn't have any fighting spirit. Whenever the promoter makes an announcement regarding the championship bout, Vacant comes and kneel before him.
Actually, he won it four times, four times, four times, four times. He dropped the belt to The Rock during The Invasion and won it back to get his fifth reign.

Honestly one sad part about WCW in 2000 that doesn't often get mentioned? The fact that neither Sting nor Goldberg were anywhere near the title picture in almost the entire year.
Vince McMahon likes big Texan bullies no offense, but 2017 Jinder having the WWE Title is LIGHT YEARS BETTER than WCW 2000 (except once FREAKZILLA got the Belt).
WCW in 2000 is without a doubt the worst year for any major promotion in wrestling history. Say what you want about WWE now, they would never put the title in Dewey from Scream.
I'd say that 95 WWF is a pretty close second. Kevin Nash champion the entire time, the main event of wrestlemania involving a mid carder versus a football player, mable king of the ring, nash vs mable at summer slam, and all the shit gimmicks. 2000 WCW was worse, but 95 almost killed wwf.
Mickael M. Well 2000 DID kill WCW. 95 WWF may have been bad, but you could also see the good that was happening, as well as the fact that 95 was just a very very shitty year for wrestling as a whole really. 2000 wrestling was at its hottest and yet this is the absolute worst of WCW. 95 WWF was bad because the wrestling business as a whole was not doing well at all and no one was drawing. 2000 WCW is a whole different level of bad, not just in front of the cameras but behind the scenes as well.
I so wanted Vacant to be Braun Strowman’s partner at wrestlemania 34 Like he could even say that he just lost his Cruiserweight championship that night
I was more pointing out that it was really only the world title that was booked badly. 11 title changes (9 on TV) with only 3 vacancies (1 injury, 1 during the "reset", and 1 for story). 5 different wrestlers held the US Championship: Jeff Jarrett, Scott Steiner, Lance Storm, Terry Funk (house show), Gen. Hugh-G-Rection. For the mid-card title, based on changes alone, perfectly acceptable.
This little nugget devalues the World Heavyweight belt even more in my opinion. You gotta draw money somehow, but both of your big titles continue to change hands at a breakneck, confusing speed? Damn.
I am seriously sick of people trashing Roman Reigns, it has been a good year and he has never held the WWE championship and you guys still complain about him. You guys complain about him constantly, but there really is no real reason to hate on Roman Reigns. The only argument I have heard was "well the majority of people don't like him, so we are right", and going by popular opinion is such a clumsy argument. Seriously, you guys complained how cartoony the WWE is so they pushed Roman Reigns, a guy who as good in ring skill, and isn't obnoxious or cartoony, and then you guys complain how "bland" and "generic" he is. If he was stuck in the mid card for this entire time and it was Seth Rollins who was pushed as top face, you guys would be shouting "Screw Seth Rollins he injures too many people, Roman Reigns deserves a push".
Matej Terzić okay...let's recap he won the belt at Survivor Series lost it IMMEDIATELY to Sheamus did not win it until an episode of Raw which was at the end of 2015 or beginning 2016. He held it for a few weeks then lost it in the Royal Rumble to Triple H then won it back at Wrestlemania. Then held it until Money in the Bank lost it to Seth Rollins who immediately lost it to Dean Ambrose haven't touched a world tittle since. Also he lost his first Wrestlemania main event so it's not even like he won all three. So there's a problem with a superstar main eventing three times in a row? When people wanted Daniel Bryan to be in the World tittle picture at Wrestlemania 30 & 31 then got bitter when it didn't happen?
Well the backstage locker room and other individuals in the industry (not some angry teenagers on the internet, but real wrestlers) would disagree with you and say that Roman Reigns does deserve it.
Well I mean technically Ron Simmons did win it 8 years before Booker. Now allow me to point out that personally I don't believe in "race" the same way most of the world does, but I will use terms like "Black" or "White" for example so my message will be easier to get across. There have been "Black" world champions in promotions all over the country, even the world and some are currently still holding them as I write this. But I think people are most likely talking about the WWE and their lack of booking "100% Black" Superstars to win the WWE Title (R-Truth came the closest like 5 years ago, I think. He did win the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Title though, so I doubt the WWE Title matters that much to him.) Going by societal standards, The Rock is "mixed raced" and is described as "Half-Samoan" due to his mother's cultural background and since humanity still treats "mixing races" like it's a new thing, many will not recognize him as a "Black" world champion, even though his father is clearly of "African" descent. When the World Heavyweight title was owned by the WWE, if you asked any of my friends as children, the World Heavyweight title was their favorite (I liked it, but I preferred the WWE title, given that it was the REAL world title of the promotion.) and we were ecstatic when Booker T won the title, but he did so under that ridiculous "King Booker" gimmick and then Mark Henry won it years later from Randy Orton, he didn't draw as champion, but he was feuding with Randy Orton, so he didn't need to. Now that I'm older, however, I now realize that WWE's version of the title only seemed to matter when a "White" guy was holding it. When Booker and Henry won it, people looked at it as "The OTHER title" or "The B-Show Title", but when guys like, Edge, Cena, Batista (he's technically a "minority"), Daniel Bryan, CM Punk, Jericho, and even another "minority" like Rey Mysterio won the title, it was promoted even more than the WWE title at times. I'm not knocking any of these guys, though. They're all some of my favorite wrestlers, but it seems to be a common theme amongst WWE writers to not book a "Black" Superstar as a main-event star no matter how over they are and whether or not they have that "World champion look", or whatever the reason may be. Same goes for their treatment of Superstars from the UK, India, Arabia, and even Japan before Nakamura and Asuka came along. We've yet to see a "Black" guy with either world title in the current WWE. Big E might be getting a push soon. Hopefully Bobby Lashley or even Ricochet will get a shot at either world title before long. Just my insight here, I'm not speaking for anyone, but maybe the WWE is what people are talking about when complaining about there being no "Black" world champions.
Damn. Despite Brian's best efforts, my head was spinning about halfway through this video, trying to keep up with all the changes. With all these shenanigans, no wonder WCW got absorbed into WWF/E.
+toddiwod I'm with you. I mean he has won just about every title from every wrestling promotion out there. Including tag team, women's, and Cruiserweight titles. He's also one of the most legit tough guys in the history of the business. He has won many boxing and MMA titles, in fact he is the current Bellator Heavyweight champion. How is that not Hall of Fame worthy?
Considering Ready To Rumble was utter trash, wouldn't it have made more sense for David Arquette to win the WCW Hardcore Championship? That title was defended only in No Disqualification style matches, so winning with outside help would have been just fine, and it was the lowest ranked belt in the company. Plus Bischoff held it at one point, so it's not like it had much prestige to worry about. And I'm sure Arquette would be okay with it as well since he's not being pushed in favour of guys like Jeff Jarrett and Booker T.
Macho Mania - Although, according to Tony, he didn't "pitch" it so much as he mockingly said they should give Arquette the title. Vince claims it was a serious pitch, Tony says he was poking fun at Vince's celebrity studded sensationalist style,
5:44 - A little background if you will, if you go back and watch that match you'll see DDP get his shoulder up right before the three count by Arquette on Bischoff
2:22 So in WWE terms since Benoit can't be mentioned, the belt goes from VACANT to VACANT (alright, I know he still gets mentioned in WCW on the WWE Network, but this would of been funny)
For those who don't know, the scissors comment at 4:30 was about a backstage altercation with Sid and Arn Anderson. Apparently, Sid stabbed Arn with a pair of scissors
4:17 wait a minute Eric Bishoff had gray hair already in 2000. I knew Bishoff with black hair when he was in WWE so thats a shock(3 years since I'm still shocked)
I have a weird head canon that vacant is some invisible wrestler who purposefully trips up wrestlers causing them to botch moves and potentially get injured so he can win more championships
That freaking moment when brian zane just stops and loses it when arquette wins was priceless. Good job man. And that vince russo impersonation dear god no.
Simpson's did it! and by Simpson's of course I mean OSW. ghaaah, I kid. I loved this video. I really miss WCW, but those dying years were rough... so rough.
The last decent year was definitely 1999. I had stopped watching WCW after that and never seen a review of the year like this. This is much worse than I had thought....I can't believe Russo was ever allowed to work in wrestling again after this.
To be fair...Arquette never wanted to win the WCW Championship in the first place. The fact that he felt this way and knew it would be bad- in addition to being a wrestling fan himself...I can't blame or get mad at the guy for winning the title.
Wrestling With Wregret- I still find 3:13-3:25 hilarious. Just the way Vacant says "Damn it..." makes this part hilarious mostly because of how deflated he sounds...
4 of Booker T's WCW Title wins were during this. The fifth and last one was during the Invasion era. 1: Defeated Jeff Jarret in a normal match. Lost to Kevin Nash. 2: Defeated Kevin Nash in a Cage Match. Lost it to Vince in another Cage match, who vacated it. 3: Won the 49 'ers match. Lost it to Scott Steiner via TKO in a Straight-Jacket match. 4: Defeated Steiner on the Last Episode of WCW Nitro before WWE bought it out for the Invasion storyline, making it the 24th and final change. He then lost to Kurt Angle 5: Defeated Kurt Angle. Lost to The Rock at Summer Slam.

7:10 Is comedy gold! "Vacant Belt Character's Title Wins" = "That's right Jack, forget Sid Vicious. I am the real millenium man. I have 100 x's the titles he has, and I have 100th of the brain that he do!" ROFL, freaking genius Mr. Zane, I can't stop laughing.
I love this channel. pretty under rated.
Space case Just like Grim's toy show.
Incredible job as always Brian!
The best thing in WCW's dying days was my man Big Poppa Pump!!!
Honestly one sad part about WCW in 2000 that doesn't often get mentioned? The fact that neither Sting nor Goldberg were anywhere near the title picture in almost the entire year.
Vacant vs Jinder Mahal, BOOK IT VINCE #pushvacant
Vince McMahon likes big Texan bullies
You mean Russo right?
cerealkiller nope jbl
Vince McMahon likes big Texan bullies no offense, but 2017 Jinder having the WWE Title is LIGHT YEARS BETTER than WCW 2000 (except once FREAKZILLA got the Belt).
freakzilla was amazing
#SWAFT
Let's remember Vacant just beat Asuka for the NXT Women's Title.
Brian Tioseco I am late but doesn't this means that there was no more winning streak?
Who?
Nintendo Psycho r/whoosh
Best way to spend a sick day watching WWW
Sweaty Mark: WWE now is worse than WCW in 2000.
Me: *Shows them WCW in 2000*
WCW > WWEkids
They’re doing it again
It's proven fact that WcW is worse. But WcW was ineptitude on top of ineptitude. WWE goes out of it's way to make no d#mn sense.
Wcw 2000 is absolutely worst than modern day wwe, but damn wwe sucks
WCW was fun, current WWE is not.
No WWE just has old ladies giving birth to hands
They gave a title to a 10 year old boy.
BIMMOM Nash
Fun Fact: Tony Schiavone was the guy who came up with the idea of Arquette winning the title.
Yeah, he did good job with killing off WCW!
@@Altern8One He meant it as a joke but Russo took him seriously.
@@EHH246 Was it a joke? Was it really?
Vacant for president!
So he can't be Obama?
leave politics out of wrestling, nobody cares
We really don't need any more pro wrestling HOFers running for president
@@aztn19 Who wasn't even a wrestler. I think the celebrity wing of the Hall of Fame is stupid.
Trump supporters are traitors and will be executed as such
Fun Fact: Vacant has never been pinned or submitted and vice versa.
Fun Fact: Vacant is a Double-Double-Digit time WWE World champion (20x)
This is easily one of your best videos
DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!
I keep rewinding the video when that happens
1:23 Funny fact about that Big Gold Belt. When it was first debuted in NWA in the late 80s the plaque read "Rick Flair" lol
I so wanted Vacant to be Braun Strowman’s partner at wrestlemania 34
Like he could even say that he just lost his Cruiserweight championship that night
Meanwhile...
WCW United States Championship:
11 Title changes in 2000 including 3 Vacancies and 2 at house shows.
^ Nor as much of a travesty in my opinion, but a big one nonerheless
Damn.
Vacant is the best champion in history.
#vacanthalloffame2018
Johnny he is already in think about it
All the way baby!
did you use WWE 2K stock entrance music for VACANT?
Yes,he used Wrath for Vacants theme
Vacant > Roman Reigns
If he was stuck in the mid card for this entire time and it was Seth Rollins who was pushed as top face, you guys would be shouting "Screw Seth Rollins he injures too many people, Roman Reigns deserves a push".
...It was a joke, dude. Chill...
Roman Reigns > DammitSinged
Vacant is a 11 time WWE champion.
That title is worthless now.
And people say there are no black champions
Declan Ferguson Way blacker than the Rock.
@Critical Gaming Channel THAT'S THE WALL BROTHER!
When ppl say that they mean wee champion they're legit the only major wrestling company in history to nvr crown a black main champion
Wwe champ bro
Awesome video, bro! I'm happy for your growing success.
Russo`s dad not using a condom was a crime against humanity.
Russo's mom should have swallowed
BRO, That's a little hawsh bro. Believe it or not bro, my brotha Vic is much worse than me, bro.
Idk, Attitude Era?
Why does that sound like a Jim Cornette line?
Really love your videos, the fact that you use actual wrestling footage instead of making slide shows like WhatCulture makes them even better
Also, 5:58 lol
I'm obviously not in a majority here but Sid was one of my favourite wrestlers of all time!
Macho Mania more like minority
I like Sid
This video really over 3 years old?? Feels like just yesterday you dropped it. Still love to come back and watch it always one of my favorites
Vacant should also be a 2017 world series champion by now
I knew that this video would be great just seeing the teaser photo. Once again the Z-Man delivers.
That scream of yours is hilarious Wrestling with wregret.
Damn. Despite Brian's best efforts, my head was spinning about halfway through this video, trying to keep up with all the changes.
With all these shenanigans, no wonder WCW got absorbed into WWF/E.
Fun Fact: Vacant has ended various undefeated streak championship reigns.
John cena(2007), Batista(2005)
Wasn't DDP the heel in the movie "Ready to Rumble"?? And he was celebrating with Arquette??
Ddp? Heel? Does not compute
He was, but it does still make sense that costars would be friends IRL.
WCW: Our ratings can't possibly get any worse!
Vince russo: Hold my beer.
revisiting in 2022. a gem of a video for sure
Vacant for WWE Hall of Fame 2019! Who's with me?
+toddiwod I'm with you. I mean he has won just about every title from every wrestling promotion out there. Including tag team, women's, and Cruiserweight titles. He's also one of the most legit tough guys in the history of the business. He has won many boxing and MMA titles, in fact he is the current Bellator Heavyweight champion. How is that not Hall of Fame worthy?
Vacant in 2000: 6 reigns for 13 days
At least he has more title reigns than 80% of the roster today😂😂😂
Vacant should have beaten The Undertaker's Streak
Considering Ready To Rumble was utter trash, wouldn't it have made more sense for David Arquette to win the WCW Hardcore Championship? That title was defended only in No Disqualification style matches, so winning with outside help would have been just fine, and it was the lowest ranked belt in the company. Plus Bischoff held it at one point, so it's not like it had much prestige to worry about. And I'm sure Arquette would be okay with it as well since he's not being pushed in favour of guys like Jeff Jarrett and Booker T.
Dylan Ogg Too much like common sense
Tony Schiavone was actually the one who pitched David Arquette winning the title.
We need Brian as Vince Russo having an interaction with Doug Walker as Michael Bay.
Great video bro. That last bit with Russo and the restraining order was great. Keep up the good work Brian.
Zane's impersonations are spot on. Russo is his best.
2:22 So in WWE terms since Benoit can't be mentioned, the belt goes from VACANT to VACANT (alright, I know he still gets mentioned in WCW on the WWE Network, but this would of been funny)
Correction, the belt goes from VACANT to VACANT to VACANT
For those who don't know, the scissors comment at 4:30 was about a backstage altercation with Sid and Arn Anderson. Apparently, Sid stabbed Arn with a pair of scissors
ChubNTuck thank you for posting. Never knew the reference till now.
And that vince russo impersonation dear god no.
best russo impression eva
I've probably watched this video 5 or 6 times and that part where Vacant says "Goddammit!" just gets me every time.
Simpson's did it! and by Simpson's of course I mean OSW.
ghaaah, I kid. I loved this video. I really miss WCW, but those dying years were rough... so rough.
Kyle Brown i thought the same thing when I saw the thumbnail
The last decent year was definitely 1999. I had stopped watching WCW after that and never seen a review of the year like this. This is much worse than I had thought....I can't believe Russo was ever allowed to work in wrestling again after this.
Kyle Brown did osw did osw
one of the few channels that is constantly improving and just gets funnier. Almost died at vacant and Russo 😂
Vacant is the real star of this video!!
"Let me tell you something, brother." 🤣🤣
It’s going to get much worse…” I know Vince, I know”
You cracked me up with that 😂
To be fair...Arquette never wanted to win the WCW Championship in the first place.
Speaking of WCW... Will you ever review collision in korea?
Great touch at the end. Great episode.
"Can't both these reigns get the Benoit treatment already?"
Oh...oh my.
He didn't mean it like you think.
That thought also briefly crossed my mind but of course he's referring to the one day reign as world champion lol
He then lost to Kurt Angle
5: Defeated Kurt Angle. Lost to The Rock at Summer Slam.
I'm going to make "VACANT" on WWE 2K17 as soon as I figure out his moveset
cerberus144 Same here but unfortunately my brother is using my PS3 for Tales of The Abyss Chronicles and paying the bills.
I just lost my mother not too long ago she was a big WCW fan and so was I everytime I hear stories the from WCW makes me happy
