did you guys know, this was used in half life 2 in an easter egg? I cant exactly remember the location of the easter egg, but somewhere in the city you can find a tv with this sampled along with another piece of music, and there was a reversed message of a woman caling out to the gman or gordon freeman, we are not sure. Pretty cool!
Yeah, in HL2 its in "Anticitizen one". The other track is "Is That The Door" by Zero-G as well, that is the second part of this eerie radio.
Distorted Trumpets is also present in HL:A at the very beginning if you set the right radio frequency on the radio :)

One of the more powerful tracks to me. It paints a mental image of how badly the Combine ruined Earth, and it makes me wonder about what they are *beyond* Earth. They're big, but we don't know what they are or how big we're talking. They have their hands on terrifying striders and gunships, so whatever else they've got is enough to make the mind shudder.
what terrifies me is that the combine goes after intelligent species before they're advanced enought to fight back If theyre ever discovered, only to add them to their own army
@@mikadosannoji553 From what I've heard, that's why Striders and Gunships exist. That also makes sense if you consider the Combine forces on Earth. Humans are yet another intelligent species used as an army for them, even if they're not supposed to be as strong as whatever else the Combine has.
Not big, let's say...extremely gigantic when it comes to their ruling. Basically, Combine is a mutiversal, multiracial, dominating, extending empire that was set for God knows how long..meaning they have already established their footholds in many alien planets and overruled them just like Earth. The episode 2's end isn't totally the Combine's defeat, rather it is the defeat of their ruling over Earth. Sad to say, we will never witness the ultimate end and destruction of Combine empire cause Valve is being Valve for over 2 decades.

I'm working on a crossover story at the moment, which ties into a story of the aftermath of the Combine's defeat. So I'm wondering if there'd be ideas for how an empire with such an extensive reach could fall. There have been comments I've read mentioning the Borealis, but I wasn't exactly sure how a ship with strange teleportation abilities may help stop it. Especially since she lodged herself in ice.

Hmmmm, what if there are others alien species, other than vortigaunts, that could potentially help humans to deal with the Combine? Let's just say the Resistance have managed to keep off the Combine from the Borealis and decided to keep the Borealis for themselves? Then it turns out the Borealis isn't only holding a teleportation power but also wields a greater power that can communicate with other species throughout the universe, or rather multiverse since the idea of multiverse is deeply welcomed in HL universe.
I don't know why, but when I'm listening to this, I always imagine this situation: you are the only human left on the planet, but you are not the only living being on the planet. There is a terrifying creature that killed everyone it met, it's extremely fast, you can't run from it, and it can kill you in such horrifying way, that burning alive would be a merciful way to die. And this creature is somewhere: it can be on the other continent or it can be at the other end of your city. And someday you are sitting on the bench in the park, you can see entire city (just like in the picture) and then you accidentally see that monster...it's far far away from you, but suddenly it's starting to get closer and closer, it's heading towards you...

The first time I heard this it felt so familiar. Like I'd heard it before and recognised it, even though I basically knew nothing about Half Life at the time. It's still one of the most memorable sounds I've heard, I sometimes just hear it in my head when I'm alone or in strange places. It's so dark and weird. I don't even have the words to describe it

This specific audio in general makes me feel like I am in some other dimension where nobody can hear you except yourself and it gets more disturbing the longer I listen but at the same time I just have to keep listening because it is such an interesting audio.

I can imagine a desolate and ghost-like city with a thick and dense fog while it’s raining. Human skeletons lie around everywhere, some dressed as civilians, some as soldiers. Abandoned tanks scattered everywhere. A fighter plane that crashed into a building. Buildings that are long old, some haven’t been cleaned in decades, many bombed. I find an old newspaper, on it says something about a war being declared. A black and white photograph of a mushroom cloud on the newspaper. And finally, I can imagine hearing this sound echoing throughout the city. The sound of trumpets being blared from a radio tower. The trumpets sound echoey, distorted and slightly muffled. You feel alone yet you also feel like there is a greater evil presence lurking around… the energy of terror and dread filling the air as you walk through the abandoned streets, once filled with life, now filled with death.
You, a lowly downtrodden citizen, wake up one morning. Everything is quiet, no Combine, no anything. Not even your neighbor you suspect to be part of the resistance. You go out through the apartment door which is mysteriously unlocked, and walk the streets. It's a quite foggy, with the day having a blue tint. It's cold, due to the apparent climate and the fact that not even the Overwatch is announcing anything. The streets are desolate, it's empty. It's so lonely, and you start to wonder if you're dreaming. You shiver at the thought that maybe whatever did all this somehow accidentally left you behind.
With no other hope, you head towards the Citadel. It looks abandoned, just like the city below it. Even you can sense that no living thing is inside. Oddly, the tower feels safer now. Yet, you frighten at the idea of something so powerful could wipe out two civilizations in one night without leaving a trace. And it might be resting in your destination, waiting. Still determined and desperate to find out, you walk slightly faster than before. You feel as if the answer you seek lie up there. You are unprepared, but in truth, you were always ready to face anything. That's how you're still alive up to this point.

The image is a reference to the "Step 2. Cover yourself in oil" meme. It's fake, of course, but it's still creepy as hell, especially considering that we as humans weren't meant to fly, so the Gods and angels above us may not like that, which would explain why the sky is so dark in the image.

Honestly, this music and these sound effects kind of remind me a little bit of the Swedish Rhapsody numbers station music and sound effects, both played forwards and backwards.
Ah, I think i've read someone saying that it also reminds them of these stations. And I think I replied to somebody here that to me it sounded familiar to old soviet radio intermission sounds and I think I even heard one of those irl as a kid but in around 2006 or so. It just had this strange vibe of sounding positive but eerie at the same time.

You lock the doors to your room and barricade the windows. You don't sleep until the morning. When daylight finally peeks through the barricade you decide to walk out. It really was the worst nightmare you've ever experienced. You go back to your usually repetitive schedule. Breakfast. Work. Dinner. TV. Video games. Sleep. Slowly the dream starts to fade away, like all dreams and nightmares do.
Until at work a co-worker mentions a creepy ringtone one of his friends had. He decided to play it. A strange, distorted jazz song sweeps through the speakers on the tiny cellphone. It sounds so eerie and familiar. The song stays in your head, despite that being the last thing you want it to do. After thinking long and hard about it...

this sound really just makes you think, what exactly IS gman? what exactly happened between half life 1 and 2? what exactly happened to earth? it makes you think about the deeper implications of the half-life universe, and of course we learn little bits of info, but really, there's so many questions that will never be answered. especially seeing as we'll probably never get an episode 3.

Before this song was not scary to me but recently my bowl movements are failing me. They cause me to almost poop myself in public and this song is just giving me flashbacks. It loops sometimes increasing intensity sometimes not. It's a never ending battle between pooping my pants or giving the toilet what it deserves. My life is made to be this way in it's own twisted ways. I will forever feel this pain of almost pooping my pants and I will always get flashbacks, no, matter, what.
