- Robert Downey J.R. Redefined Iron Man in the mid 2000s and launched the MCU of the back of one of his greatest if not greatest preformance as an actor. His role helped make Iron Man an A-Lister again in Marvel and I couldn't help but talk about this wonderful movie. Okay this one was a pain to get out quite literary all still images reminds me of whjy I don't really cover the MCU, but anyways I hope yall Enjoy.

What can I say? RDJ is regarded as kind of The Godfather of the MCU. To many people, myself included, the MCU truly began with Iron Man and met its true ending at Avengers Endgame.
Personally for me, it ended at first Avengers
@@Nobody-hw6jvYou're one of "those" people 🙄
@Nobody-hw6jv dawg... are u genuinely okay? Like in the head?
@@Nobody-hw6jv That's okay. It didn't need your help to stay on top for the rest of the 2010s.
I 100% agree. Although I do think that No Way Home and Guardians 3 and the upcoming DeadPool 3 are basically love letters to the true MCU and really great supplementary movies. At least I bloody hope DeadPool 3 will be.
"Tony stark built this in a cave with a box of scraps"
We're not Tony Stark.
Sorry sir, we don't have a cave
I love how his tie flips out harder than him during that scene lmao
interesting thing about tony using weapons to fight weapons
rather than make another dumb weapon for anyone to use
he makes a single weapon that requires a human to use, he humanizes the very thing he is known for
Its also interesting as with the Warmonger suit, it looks vaguely human but its so bloated and has several millimeters of thick armor plating distancing the human from the actions. Very poetic this film, makes me miss old MCU compared to the consumerism focused garbage we have now
the rise and fall of the mcu really shows just how important the people and personalites were above everything else. it started mostly substance with flash and then it had almost all flash and no substance left.
I wouldn't say its fell yet
@@thegreatacolyt1277still in the denial stage?
@@DavidVandemark it hasn't tho tons of movies from them are going to do well
Its truly remarkable how perfect Robert Downey Junior was as Iron Man especially when before Iron Man became a household name, RDJ was a very controversial figure serving time a sentence to prison for some time and despite his former actions it wouldve taken a miracle for his career to have redemptive comeback and make up for his mistakes, and thankfully Iron Man came along reinvigorated his career and audiences love for RDJ as Tony Stark. Another thing that amazes me about RDJ's Tony Stark was how they wrote Tony to truly be a compelling but equally flawed character without making the character unlikable since in the comics Iron Man is frequently depicted as less of a noble flawed character and more like a condescending, petty, a**hole who sold out his own morals and arrested his own friends and put the entire superhero community against each other during the Civil War event in the comics and a whole lot more worse things. At least when the MCU adapted Civil War they knew that Tony had to have a deep logical reason for what hes doing and balance out his complacency to side with the Sokovia Accords, with a deep trauma and sense of hoping to stop the never ending battle of being a superhero and fix everything without anyone getting hurt. Tony in the MCU wasnt a perfect man, but he was still just a man and knows when he makes a mistake he owes it to himself to learn from his mistakes. Thus when we see him come to terms with his fate and how many people hes saved, the lives he's changed and the family he brought into this world, Tony willingly makes the ultimate sacrifice to wipe out Thanos and his army ending his arc in a satisfying way.
RDJ is to Iron Man what Kevin Conroy was to Batman.
Truthfully the greatest character arc i’ve ever watched, was a huge spider-man fan growing up until the first ever movie i saw in theaters, Iron man. From then on this man has been my favorite hero and it’s solely because of the MCU. Thank you RDJ, showing a man can hit rock bottom and soar to greater heights than ever conceived.
Throughout this video you're constantly ignoring that he was unaware that Obadiah was selling to terrorists and other groups. Tony had just been coasting through life and then the Ten Rings incident happens and he shuts that shit down. It doesn't remove him from accountability, but it's important to state that he wasn't doing this intentionally.
18:07 still is the coolest superhero suit up scene that I can think of
As you were describing this...and given current events...something clicked.
Iron Man came out in 2008 and by that point the US had been in the Iraq War for years...we had years of hearing about terrorists and here was a guy who could just solve it all.
But...he was responsible for them to begin with. Its only once he took responsibility that things begain to change.
Maybe im being poetic. But i think this would represent the US at that point. Maybe we did have a heart but we burried it just so long as we didnt have to see the consequences.
But Tony is a good person. He is responsible for alot of villians in the Marvel universe a d he goofs but he is a good person. Hes such a good person he sacrificed himself to save the universe.
I think Tony shows that even people like Tony can be heroes if given the chance.
From hedonism to heroism.
0:24 I remember when iron Man came out in theaters I was in fourth grade and my dad had taken us out of school to go watch iron Man because my dad loves comics so we went to go see it and I remember him telling me don't expect to see iron Man too much because it's a guy in a suit in the comics and stuff like that. I was into comics prior to iron Man coming out but obviously not too much. I was very little but iron Man is what really kicked off my interest in the comic book media. The whole comic book genre of movies, TV shows, comics everything
He was a prominent character in the days of the avengers when they first debuted in comics, but his popularity died off. After a while he had a little kick in popularity through the '90s cartoon, but other than that before rdj took up the mantle, he was really a be or c-list character
I’d say he was an A lister up until the 2000s where he dropped to like B-Tier but I don’t ever think he bottomed out a C tier
Iron Goat🔥‼️
Many people forgets that the MCU version of Tony Stark is influenced by the version from The Ultimates.
I mean, you could argue the MCU in general is just an adaptation of the Marvel Ultimate Universe (Earth-1610).
@@bachilles3285You could not make that argument because that is true, look through the first two volumes of the ultimates and the MCU up to Avengers 1
Put this on while I was getting to work today and I was surprised when I finished it and saw that you you're such a small channel..... You deserve 100,000 subscribers at least!
Great video. I'd already known that Robert Downey Jr was a Marvel gem by Iron man 2.
So just a little thing that dosent really affect the point your making in the video, Tony wasn’t dealing with the terrorist’s. He sold weapons to the US and obidiah was selling the terrorists weapons.
yeah, that is annoying to hear constantly
I think he was mostly referring to the company as a whole, where even the owner is considered responsible
I just subscribed after watching your hulk video and you drop another video 🤯🤯
I binge watched your videos yesterday and today i get a new upload for my breakfast this is epic
1610 Iron Man is my favorite interpretation of him, outside of the MCU. Which, I would say, served as the main template for MCU Iron Man.
You put all my love for this character in the words that I couldn’t find when I was just a little kid. Thank you
loved the iron man in super hero squad lol
also is emh on Disney plus?
I believe so yes
I love how this established one of Tony's deadliest traits of when he's backed into a corner, thats where he's the most dangerous
How are you cranking out back to back bangers? Nothing but love
My sleep schedule struggling lol
i thought what hurt tony in the comics was they did that young tony taking over for the fucked up tony
Iron Man is a really interesting analysis of the role of the wealthy in society (in societies that have a wealthy class, of course). To be honest, character-wise, I feel like Tony belongs more in Gotham than New York. A lot of Batman is dedicated to looking at the rich and poor and the inherent disparity between them. Bruce, of course, is the prime example, but there's also Penguin, Hush, and the Court of Owls on the rich side. And then there's Manbat as a struggling scientist (who, in a lot of interpretations, Bruce ends up employing and letting him continue his research), Mad Hatter (sort of), and even the Red Hood version of Joker's origin story. It'd be interesting to see Batman and Iron Man interact, both heroes who (eventually) learned the inherent responsibility of the rich to give back to the society that put them where they are (something that most real billionaires fail to recognize). They're probably the only heroes who could understand each other in that regard
I like your video style. Very chill.
The worst thing about the RDJ Iron Man is now every other future adaptation of Iron Man is like him, even the comics sadly.
Imagine if the Demon in A Bottle story tried to happen now instead of before
One detail I really like the film change from the comics was having Tony discovering that his weapons were being used by terrorists. Not only this is sutle desconstruction of what the character was in the 60's, turning his origin (which was just vietnam war propaganda) into a modern complex story that adress themes like corruption and shady business, but also enhances Tony's decision to become hero, with him knowing about the dark truth that he and his company play a part in it by creating those weapons that are killing innocent people.
Great video and love your content I wanna see a video on the greatest Batman portal in your opinion from all of them
Not directly related to the movie, but I have read a fanfiction which give Obadiah Stane a bit more characterization, where in his inner monologue, he had confessed at one point he truly seen Tony as a surrogate son. But Tony's frivilous habit of starting new project but not finish them nearly ran Stark Industries into the ground, which lead to Stane to sell weapons to terrorists to keep the company afloat and slowly build up his frustration with Tony. Personally, I kind of wish this was part of canon as this give a bit more depth to their relationship than simply making Obadiah a mustache twirling bad guy.
How on earth are you generating all of this output?
90% of the channels I watch take days or weeks to write, record, and edit a 30+ minute video essay.
🤷🏾♂️ I’ve got a lot of free time I guess. And like some of these have been work in progress for weeks and I am just now getting around to finishing them
one thing u think helped is he went through a similar thing the character does in comics with drugs same reason i think this worked really well with avengers in comics and irl were largely losers so both irl and in the movies the avengers rose to the occasion and basically took marvel from almost going bank rupt to being ine of the most successful franchises looking back at it it's almost poetic in a way
Blade actually took the mcu from going bankrupt
@@bezzytv4625 never said mcu also blade was a great movie pre dates mcu though just like ghostrider unless you mean the one being made rn but hasn't been released yet
i liked this iron man because just like earth's mightiest heroes version i like them both
i never tell anyone im a comic iron man fan cuz most ppl always think of his 2000s-early 2010s civil war and superior iron man era
Im stuck between armored adventures and EMH iron man, I'd say the later is more polished overall, but there are unique plot beats they hit with the former, though there may be a heap of nostalgia holding that one up higher.
Why didn’t I subscribe last time you uploaded a video? Well time to correct that!
Awesome video, could you do one on John Walker?
Absolutely
Something i do hate is when people say iron man was a D lister which is just wrong he was the most popular but he was a big firgure head of marvel
My fav other than rejecting iron man is emh or armored adventures iron man
Don’t forget it was stein selling the stuff Tony didn’t support it
i wonder if its possible to bring him back without it being tasteless or forced
No
yinsen was the uncle ben of the mcu
Iron Man is more accurate
funny how the tear down of Iron Man in Civil War happened with Captain Marvel too, in Civil War 2, down to basically the same plot beat. I think Civil Wars are just... Cursed.
And Yet somehow the MCU Did Civil War Justice
@@reginesaguin1191 Because they DIDN'T XD
It was captain America movie through and through, and they decided to center the movie around that, instead of some ideological debate (which was the failing of the comic CWs).
Comic Books Civil War (2005) ruin #TonyStark/#IronMan!
i will always love rdj as iron man but i hate that the mcu tries to make everyone iron man as well
My only criticism of this video is you gave a retelling of the 1 movie and only really telling us what was so great about it for like 5 minutes of a 30 minute video. You told us the plot of the movie more than why RDJ perfected the role. You covered maybe what is a 1/4 of his character arc instead of why his overall performance improved this character.
The title of the video should be: The plot of Ironman. More critique and review, less retelling please.
RDJ coming back is the only way to save the MCU
I still don't like the idea of bringing him back. It makes his death feel pointless. Even if it just 1 movie I still don't like the idea of it
That would defeat the purpose of his death and his sacrifice. To bring him back after one of the most meaningful deaths in cinema would be a slap in the face.
The reactor only looks like a flashlight.
Bro you gotta change that profile picture man, respectfully it is not good
Crazy how the MCU peaked at Iron Man, literally all downhill from there, Infinity War reaching almost the same peak if it wasn't for the merciless murder (quite literally in the sequel) of the Hulk.
Winter soldier, guardians of the galaxy, ragnarok, infinity war, doctor strange?
@@bezzytv4625 All below the original Iron Man, yes.
Those aren't bad movies doe
I personally prefer Moon Knight...
No views in 1 minute bro fell off
