I mean, 'stealing her documents with her consent' would also be a thing as well, it just means that she's going to lie to the gov't about her documents being stolen to ensure she doesn't go to jail.
I love this movie because the hack writers clearly wanted the protagonist to be a cool and utter badass, but the Tom Hardy took one look at the character and decided he would be violently ill, in constant pain, and kind of a dipshit who's always confused by the absurd situation. it's like he's fighting the script with a more compelling idea
Yeah he and the director had wildly different visions of the character, and Venom 2 will turn off the brakes and give Tom Hardy's version all the attention
The thing is that people always forget that venom in the comics wasn't that different from the one in the movies, sometimes it feels nobody actually know the character and assume vemon is never dumb and my god that's not true
So pretty much the same thing that happened with Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean. Jack Sparrow was originally intended to be more of a generic badass, swashbuckler-type-of-character but Johnny Depp decided to instead play the character as a drunken, washed up, ambiguously gay rockstar suffering from syphilis (yes, according to Depp, Jack Sparrow has syphilis). He also wanted Jack Sparrow to be missing his nose, with a hideous wound where his nose used to be but this idea was shot down as being too much. As a result of Depp's antics during the production of the film, Disney executives were absolutely livid about his performance, with then-CEO of Disney Michael Eisner in particular having a huge fit about the whole thing. As Depp himself recalls about the whole affair, “It trickled back to me that Michael Eisner went on some sort of bent about how ‘Goddamnit Johnny Depp’s ruining the film! Is it drunk? Is it gay?’ And so I fully expected to be fired, and I got a call from the upper echelon at Disney who were courageous enough to ask me, ‘What the fuck are you doing?’ And again, the questions came up, ‘Is it drunk? Is it gay?’ All I could say was, cause they set me up with a great line, I said, ‘Well don’t you know all my characters are gay?’ I really expected to be fired, but I wasn’t for some reason. They were actually gonna put subtitles under my character, they couldn’t understand Captain Jack.”

Gotta love how for once a movie doesn't portray the other man (Eddie's ex-fiance's boyfriend) as some jerk that's trying to hurt the main character. The boyfriend was pretty nice and helped Eddie. Also, Eddie and the ex-fiance didn't end up back together which I liked too
I didn’t lol Bc I liked what they had but f*** me what an a**hole I guess In all seriousness I liked Dan he was a really nice guy and would hate to see her dump him, but also want Eddie to be happy again
4:20 What gets me is that Eddie's boss acknowledges that Eddie the kind is the kind of journalist that likes to investigate and expose bad people, then puts on a surprised Pikachu face when he does exactly that. Let's be real, Eddie was not the only fool in that situation.
In all honesty, Venom telling Eddie that he's what made him love earth, is the most indulgent, pure, sugary sweet bullshit I've seen in a long time. Venom is the feel good romantic dramedy of 2016.
Venom captures the “Holy shit this is insane what the fuck is going on” essence of the 90s’ Venom comic books (most notably Venom: Lethal Protector) perfectly

Tom Hardy is an old personal friend of mine. He used to train at the local gym with my late brother (who was a professional MMA and cage fighter and fought with Katie ("Jordan") Price's ex husband Alex Reid when he was building himself up for his role in 'Bronson'. Tom's success story is like something out of 'revenge of the nerds'. Given how Marcus pointed out how unrealistically nice as well as incompetent people are in this movie, I guess the in-universe "explanation" is that the landlord just waved his rent until Eddie got back on his feet, like any landlord would in real life. Clearly the same goes for all of the utility companies he would have to pay otherwise. [Insert forced laugh track here.] That or he's just whoring himself out like no tomorrow, which would also conveniently explain how he's still so fit despite seeming perpetually inebriated and how he affords to be perpetually inebriated in the first place even as cheap as some rotgut is.
I honestly wasn’t bothered by Venom changing his mind about earth so fast because he’s just an insanely impulsive creature. I feel like it’s believable that he’d realize that he can have fun running around here with Eddie and then just decide to blow up the other symbiotes because they were all dicks anyway

The way it's explained here is basically that venom is afraid of being bullied back home, being a loser and all And venom saying that Eddie is the real reason why he's staying on earth Given the context of the first answer, and how Eddie acted the entire movie It makes complete sense on it's own

The first time I watched this film in theatres and heard the line “My legs…they were broken…and now they’re not broken…” spoken by Tom Hardy, out loud, to no one, was the moment I knew Venom was something special
I love how they portrayed the real life transition of venom being written as a villain in the comics to being written as an antihero in the comics in one simple convo between Eddie and Venom where Eddie basically says "Don't kill anybody unless they're bad guys"
it's what most of the time happens to popular villains, we can add Deadpool to the list too, man was a cold blooded murderer with psychosis probably. there are very few exceptions to this rule, say perhaps the Joker where it seems as everyone still prefers him as the bad guy he is.
@@saaros Deadpool never was a bad guy or even a villian. He was a anti hero in the main storyline right from the start. I think youre deeply confused by all the alternative Storylines that describe him as a psycho like deadpool kills the marvel universe etc
They could have fixed some things by having Venom be the symbiote that escaped and made his way back to San Francisco by body hopping instead of Riot. You could then have the white spider logo present, the implication being that Venom was in New York for a while on his way. It also explains the trust/bond between Riot and Drake, they've been in close contact daily at the lab. That way, Venom actively wanting to save the day makes sense, he's had a lot of interaction with a huge amount of different people whereas Riot has only interacted with a guy who was routinely killing homeless people without any remorse.
As a big fan of the comics, I’m honestly pretty glad that Venom got his own story without Spider-Man. I thought it was a nice change of pace that was done well.

The MCU/superhero movies in general really over use the “long pause after a joke” type moment, that’s mainly because every character is constantly throwing out one liners.
My favorite plot contradiction that you didn't mentioned is that the last fight takes place on a rocket launching site, and as we learned earlier Symbiotes don't like high sounds, when a plain flew like 200m over Venom he instantaneously hid and fall from a building, but when a freaking rocket is starting it has no effect whatsoever on Riot and venom XD
8:43 no but actually he is wasted. Eddie is constantly wasted through the whole movie. The worst parts are when he's on heroin. Not even kidding, it's a phenomenal performance.... in the wrong movie.
I have a soft spot for the Venom movie; as someone who’s been waiting to see Venom done justice in live action, I was pleasantly surprised with Tom Hardy’s portrayal, especially with his interactions with the symbiote throughout the entire movie. It may not be a masterpiece, but I think it really was an entertaining movie simply for Eddie and Venom’s chemistry alone. When it comes to the rating, I feel like the movie could’ve done much more fan service being rated R though I imagine it was made PG-13 because of the fact that the MCU might’ve inevitably wanted to get their hands on this iteration of the character for their cinematic universe. By now, I’ve seen this movie about 5 times and I never regret watching because of how fun it is to see my favorite Marcel character behave humorously and kick ass. Spoiler: Hopefully, with Venom being introduced into the MCU in Venom 2, he’ll get to have a more comic-accurate character development involving Spider-man. Also, it would be interesting to see a Venom movie written by one of the MCU’s better directors, like the Russo brothers for example.
I kinda liked the idea of the reason Eddie live in San Francisco I’d cause that version of Parker humiliated Eddie, and he hit a downward spiral till he met Anne.
Yeah Marvel wanted absolutely nothing to do with Venom and got strong armed by Sony into involving this version in the MCU under the premise of allowing Marvel Studios to keep using Tom Holland’s Spider-Man. This film was PG 13 due to Sony’s hoping one day they’d be able to mix their Spider-Man characters with the MCU and piggy back off their success which has all come to fruition I guess lol
This movie convinced me that being the host of Venom is like being mildly high on MDMA all the time cause that is exactly how Eddie Brock acts like the whole movie.

Coincidence, I just watched it yesterday. I didn’t mind it so much, but it’s pretty clear they went out the way to make this rated PG-13. But I do give credit for making this “Venom-verse” and character work without any mention of Spider-Man.
My suspicion is aside from wider target audience, the PG is here so that they can easily integrate Venom into the Spidey universe at some point and adjust with their tone and style
This thought just occurred to me, why hasn’t cosmonaut ever done any X-men reviews? Like all of them ranked or something? It’d even be good for why they suck with the exception of some? Idk, just spitballing

@Fax ad saved me
The thing is that people always forget that venom in the comics wasn't that different from the one in the movies, sometimes it feels nobody actually know the character and assume vemon is never dumb and my god that's not true

We need more serious superhero movies that (gasp) stick to the scourge material.
Well, that's just a matter of opinion, I guess, but I think that seriousness and superhero genre just do not mix together well. The only examples of actually good serious superhero movies that I can think of are Nolan's Batman trilogy and The Watchmen (Although the latter, imho, is really pretentious and boring). Everything else is just as dumb as Venom, if not more so
2:24 - 2:50 Both the Moon Knight TV series and the Venom movies seem to share the same exact traits and structure, and yet complete opposites at the same time: the former can be funny and serious when the scenes demand them while the latter can be funny and serious AT ANY RANDOM MOMENTS.

I hated that too. The only thing I liked about this movie is that they got Venoms design down right. But man the CGI gets unbearable at a certain point.
@@SuperMurray2009 why did you hate it I thought it was cool
@@abdullahamr9941 Bad Acting Is one. What's funny is I think Ahmed and Hardy have done spectacular acting in the past but their acting is unbelievable bad and Cosmonaut summed it up perfectly. Hardy is trying to hard to sound like a NY Meathead and Ahmed is just monotone as fuck.
Also the story is just bad. It has no clear stakes or direction. It doesn't set up what story I'm supposed to be invested in good enough at all. The story our protagonist is engaged in doesn't interest me in the slightest. Everything is just thrown at Eddie so it's hard to feel invested.
Also the CGI is terrible and the action is terrible. If the plot is gonna be nonsensical and stupid then at least give me good action. But I couldn't get that either. The movie scenes are heavily cut to oblivion to hide the gore and the CGI is extremely distracting because of how bad it is.

"Everyone in this movie is just so nice, and just so stupid" I think that's why a lot of people actually love it. Venom 2018 is just a shitshow of himbos stumbling around and you'd be surprised how many people are into that. Everything else these days takes itself so seriously, (even the plot of Venom 2018 was not immune and that's one of it's worst qualities) maybe we *want* a few movies where literally everyone, from the protags to the villains to the side characters are all just so hilariously bad at what they do. It's a modern era clown show.
Movie theaters showing a movie like this are the new circus tent. Except instead of being entertained by abused animals, we're going into this new tent to see a bunch of idiots set themselves on fire while riding unicycles, but it's all with a wink and a smile because everyone involved is just so good natured.

I like how If they made deadpool a serious film everyone would've hated it but when they transform the Venom franchise into a stupid and badly written comedy everyone is ok because haha funny joke like movie 😀
@@simonenot5839 i don't think that's true. Deadpool has dozens of "serious" storylines in the comics that people like a lot. and if done well in a movie, people will like it much as the other films, if not more

There is obviously a way to pull off a comedy better than marvel did with Venom. Hell, for a change they could make a movie that actually had a purpose, but instead they turn a character whose main purpose is Spiderman's foil and nemesis into an anti-hero. Funny anti-hero this, funny anti-hero that. Marvel just tried to recreate the humour that made Deadpool stand out and it just isn't working. Venom feels like a sloppy movie, and justifying amy other opinion is like calling The Room a great movie cause you laughed at it ironically, people give it that treatment cause Marvel is an established firm, and people chew on whatever mediocre film they push.
The scream trope annoys me, but the one in the grinch actually made me laugh because Jim carry screams so humorously. It’s never made me laugh any other time, and I was legitimately surprised that it got me.
I quite like Venom, UNIRONICALLY
Venom looks much better in this version than in Spider-Man 3, Riot and Carlton Drake are somewhat interesting villains, and I wouldn’t expect Eddie to look like some shirtless badass when he’s bonded with an alien that’s actively KILLING HIM, so I like the fact that he looks sick
Also, his character is depressed, his fiancé left him, he lost the one job he’d ever wanted and he’s forced to live in a small and shitty apartment
It’s fun
I agree with everything you just said EXCEPT about the venom design. The spider-man 3 one looks like a straight up nightmarish alien, while Venom venom just looks like goop.

Venom without Spiderman is like a cereal without milk
Spoiler:
Hopefully, with Venom being introduced into the MCU in Venom 2, he’ll get to have a more comic-accurate character development involving Spider-man. Also, it would be interesting to see a Venom movie written by one of the MCU’s better directors, like the Russo brothers for example.
Spoiler:
Him licking Tom Holland on the tv screen absolutely fucking slayed me 🤣
I kinda liked the idea of the reason Eddie live in San Francisco I’d cause that version of Parker humiliated Eddie, and he hit a downward spiral till he met Anne.
