This was the last guitar solo of Eddie Van Halen's career. While Ed grew up not far from the Hollywood Bowl, Van Halen had never played there before. On their 2015 tour, they made it a point to finally play the Hollywood Bowl in LA, and this was the last 2 nights of their 2015 tour. After this tour, Ed took a turn for the worse with his cancer and was flying to Germany for several special treatments. When COVID happened, he was no longer able to go get those treatments due to worldwide border closings, and he passed in 2020. RIP to the greatest guitar player ever!

I have no idea where you could think it was anything negative. I guess you need to get your facts before telling others to get a reality check!!!

There's no one "best" at anything, but Eddie is top five, probably top three. But I will say this: I was born in 1972, and Van Halen hit the scene in 1978, and I say without any hesitation at all that Eddie Van Halen is absolutely the most important guitar player of my lifetime. No one played the guitar the same way after him, no one built the guitar the same way after him, and absolutely no one even thought of the guitar the same way after him. He had a massive, massive influence. If you want to check out a deep dive into his history as a player and a DIY guitar builder, check out the hour-long Smithsonian Institute interview with him. It wouldn't necessarily be any good for your channel because it's so long, but take an hour to watch it sometime on your own time. It's fascinating.

Eddie was special. They were the best rock band ever, imo. Criminally underrated, even though they are recognized as a legendary band. They don't get put up there with Zeppelin and Floyd and Metallica etc. They're labeled a "party band". They were so good. Eddie absolutely rewrote what it was to play guitar. When folks first heard him, they couldn't believe it. He was the Hendrix of his generation. He revolutionized the instrument. And he was just a really nice guy. I cried a lot when he passed. I knew he had been sick, but it was just *bam*. I saw the headline. He was gone. I couldn't believe it, and was a little surprised at how upset I was. I was into VH when I was younger. Then about 4-5 years ago, I started listening to them like all the time. Like 2-3 years later, he passed. It was horrible. Check out the video for Jump if you haven't already. Look at his smile. It's infectious. He was happy playing guitar. It's what he loved to do. He was very creative, and innovative. He was one of a kind. But he was a kind, gentle person. He had some dark years when he was struggling with addiction. For me, Eddie is the brilliant, fun, inventive, humorous master of the guitar. He took the style of Led Zeppelin and shot it into space. Then the rest of the band did their thing. No one can touch Van Halen. Best band ever. RIP, Eddie.

Crappy day and I needed to hear Ed and see his sweet smile. This man, who never learned to read music, just melds with his guitar and they become one. During the middle of concerts he always went out and did a 10 minute solo for the crowd while the rest of the band kicked back. Look at the way he smiles at the crowd. He loved what he was doing and he loved his fans. Can you imagine living with this guy and hearing him play all the time when he felt something coming over him and wanted to express it on his guitar? A legend that his son, Wolfgang, will hopefully carry on. At the end when the tape stopped, he was starting his solo of Eruption, which he always did. You can hear the entire guitar solo at the beginning of the song You Really Got Me. I also found a solo that you guys might like of Eddie back in his heyday ('83) doing his solo while running across the stage, sliding on his butt, doing the splits in the air, all while still playing, and with that sweet smile for his fans. Remember…. Different kinds of genres have guitar solos. Many sub categories in rock. Eddie was Hard rock/Metal. Can’t compare to Stevie Ray Vaughan, who was jazz/blues; or Hendrix who was psychedelic rock, etc. Best comparisons are with the same genre. That would be Slash, Angus Young, Randy Rhoads, Jimmy Page, David Gilmour and so on…
But you have to hear Eddie’s story to understand what puts him ahead of others. He didn’t just play, he built the guitars and rewrote how guitars were made by industry makers. Innovative techniques perfected. And remember… a guitar SOLO is one guitar, no others, no drums etc. One player, one guitar.

Fender and Gibson changed the way they made guitars from Eddie’s design. Really quite amazing that not only was he a revolutionary musician but changed the way and instrument was made. He fully deserves to be mentioned alongside Leo Fender and Les Paul for his massive influence on how guitars were built, before you even mention his massive influence on how they're played. There's how guitars were built before him, and there's how they're built now. And he built them because of how he wanted to play them.

    Guitar: Eddie Van Halen (R. I. P.)
Drums: Alex Van Halen (his brother
    Bass: Michael Anthony
    Singer: David Lee Roth
This is the original band members. Also, Wolfgang is the son of Eddie and his previous actress wife: Valerie Bertinelli (from sitcom fame: One Day at a Time, when she was young.)
UHM YES.. I can attest! In '78, I believe it was, me and my older brother got their first album "Women and Children First" and Holy Hell, WHAT a sound that was!
This is a solo from late in his career and not long before he passed away. For his most BADASS solo ever? You must checkout his "Eruption Solo!" I have no words to describe how incredible it is!
Also, that year was HUGE for music! First albums for The Dire Straits too (showcase the AWESOME "Sultans of Swing" track and is one song I will never EVER get tired of), and first album from The Police and another big band I can't recall .. hmm, maybe Queen's first record as well.
Anyway GOOD choice for this reaction! Also, when Van Halen still had original front man, David Lee Roth, they did a FAB cover of Roy Orbison's 'Pretty Woman with a great video that aired in MTv almost nonstop! I'll find the links to both of these and send them along.
    Rock ON! 😀🤘

This concert footage was from Van Halen's final tour in 2015... Eddie Van Halen was well past his prime... still put in a good performance, but he just lacked the vigor and finesse of his guitar skills in the past. Eddie Van Halen's contributions and compositions were stellar in rock history... but in his last 2 decades, he was a shadow of his former self, sadly.
If u watch Eddie Van Halen's performances in 1986... 1992... 1982... he was just incredible 🔥🔥on stage!
Van Halen was the band Eddie and his older brother Alex Van Halen (drums) formed as teenagers... David Lee Roth (vocals) joined around 1973 and suggested the band be called Van Halen because Eddie was the wizard on guitar and he felt it was a marquee name like Santana or Jeff Beck Group (named after the bands' guitar heroes)...
Wolfgang Van Halen is Eddie's only son from his marriage w/ actress Valerie Bertinelli... In 2007, when Van Halen announced a reunion tour w/ David Lee Roth (vocals) returning, Van Halen's original bassist/ backing singer Michael Anthony was replaced by Wolfgang on bass, and he seemed to be the 'buffer' between Eddie and Alex Van Halen (when the 2 brothers were not getting along) and David Lee Roth.
Wolfgang Van Halen recently launched his own band Mammoth WVH ('Mammoth' was one of Van Halen's early band names) and played all the instruments (guitar/ bass/ drums/ keyboards) and sang lead on 2 albums so far.
Ritchie Blackmore seemed the same way in 2018 when he put a version of his band Rainbow together for some concert dates, and he just wasn't the unpredictable, fiery and dynamic guitarist of the past... He didn't seem enthusiastic about playing heavy rock anymore. He seems more comfortable playing the semi-acoustic music w/ Blackmore's Night.
Same thing w/ Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin... he performs more mellow rock in concert and declines to perform Zeppelin's heavy songs live.

Brilliant and mesmerizing - no question Eddie is...not even a question...Best? Who can say!? Just thankful for knowing, hearing, listening, and hopefully motivating to someone else to continue on. Greatness like this should just be celebrated and appreciated for the individual style and talent, and motivate others. There's not 1 style...and just never stop I hope. I fear labeling best....there's TOO many to judge! And hope there's someone else out there that can keep creating in the same way! Know what I mean? Eh....Love the days of yore of talent.
