If I were you and I had the money, I'd get that and fix it right up, since there doesn't seem to be any major faults with the car apart from things degrading due to age. Would love to see you working on this car.
That misfiring could be your ignition wires or a bad terminal on the distributor cap. I’ve also seen the wires on the fuel injectors come completely undone, so i’d check that too. Another common problem with these ZX’s is that battery acid may get on the battery tray & rust it out. Since the frame rail is more or less directly below that tray, you’ll definitely want to look at that before you think of buying. Otherwise, interior is in great condition, Exterior looks solid, seems like a buy to me.
Yeah I was thinking that too with the rust, especially if its lived in a wetter climate it's whole life. As far as clean datsuns go, this is 100% one of them.
I'm kicking myself that I didn't get a chance to check out underneath the hood. But just from the condition of the rest of the car I would guess that the battery tray is okay. But you bring up some great points for the misfiring, thanks for sharing!
Yes those dashes are from the 80’s!! I own one, factory digital clock, cruise control, the oil pressure sending units are known to go bad though, and rust LOVES these cars, i watch you alot and to see you review a car i actually own is amazing, its a good little gem and im jealous, that dash cover is to prevent cracks as these cars had horrible vinyl quality, seats being bad also could be due to the common “T-Top leak” this car is also in the black and red color which is MORE RARE than any other 10th anniversary color, best find yet.
Rare to find an old z that's not a rusted out turd. Rust is literally driving these cars to extinction. In fact they're so prone to it that they literally started rusting on the cargo boats while being shipped from Japan.
Those gauge pods were stock. I didn't get a good look at the 3rd one closest to the passenger seat though. All of the Z's going back to the 240z had those. My old z31 300zx even had them.
The hood is probably stuck to the rubber stoppers under each corner of the hood. Your best bet is to give the hood a couple love taps near the top corners to loosen up the stuck rubber. If that doesnt work, spray WD in the top center of the hood crack to try and lube the release mechanism.
yo man, I'm actually fixing up an 83 280zx Turbo right now, and I def want to say that this would be a great car to own. Both yours and mine have around the same miles but yours does look to be in better condition than mine. If you do buy it just be prepared for a lot of small shit like sensors, lines, etc. Seems like your Z could just be mistimed as well. Overall, I love these cars and these anniversary and turbo cars are the one to get, especially if it started up and you can get it moving. 👍
Hey - Thats awesome that you're rebuilding a Z! Hope it's been treating you well so far. Appreciate the insight since you've gone through it. It helps put things into perspective.
@@bendaga it's definitely been a little rough trying to get this car back on the road, but these old Z's are so cool and harder to find each day so its worth it. Love the videos man
The biggest point of rust will be under the battery tray. Battery acid leaks under the tray where it is nicely guttered onto the passenger side frame rails and rusts them from the inside out.
I do remember these cars there were really cool looking and drove well but their engines weren't that good for some reason but they were fast..I just joined your channel I love cars and it makes my day seeing your channel and content.. keep it coming and keep it amazing my bro...
@1:50 those are the correct factory gauges from the 80s. They might have taken them out and cleaned them or repainted/detailed them, but those are what came from the factory. One of the things about the Z/ZX is the dash was pretty amazing. It was designed as a "drivers car". That car is in great shape for its age. Cleaned up that's something in the 10~20K range.
What a sweet car. Loved those 280 and 300 Z cars growing up. I was 13 in 1980. That carpeting on the doors gave me warm feeling of nostalgia. She is in such great condition, if I had the money I would seek her out.
I love these old Z's. I especially love the original 240Z the most, but the 280Z is also really cool to me. I do feel the 280Z needs to be in black though because the bumpers are really ugly to me at the back but I think the front looks nice. Very cool car, and quite insane that you found it there
My first car was a 83 280Z. Got it for 300. Previous owner just put a new clitch in it. Ran like a top, and I got to wrench on it a bit. Brakes and thermostat mostly. The only thing wrong with it was the mounts on the hand brake were busted out of the frame so it was always parked in gear. Digi speedometer and gadge cluster. Still probably my favorite car I've ever owned. Collectors item, should have kept it.
I have an 83 2+2 and it’s an amazing car. Highly recommend getting it especially since it’s the manual version. Also the gauge pods are stock from the 80s, mine has the same ones (except my clock is green cause I have the digital dash)
Of the Anniversary editions of that year, the RED/BLACK ones had RED interiors. If you look at that anniversary emblem, it appears gold in the background. Also.... the RED/BLACK ones 10th anniversary badging was a gray-ish silver color, not black. I *think* this may be a GOLD/BLACK one which someone attempted to paint red.
@@bendaga another tidbit if you notice the gas gauge on the left there is another gauge within it at the bottom that measures down the last 1/4 1/8 & 1/16th of a tank...
My mom had a silver 2006 or 2007 Infiniti FX35 that ran perfectly smooth until my brother poured too much oil in it and messed it up. It had 150,000 miles on it. Now she has a white 2017 Infiniti QX70 limited. I have to admit it’s a bit of an upgrade but I miss her old car.
I'm still boggled as to how that mechanism with the radio still works after all this time.
Quality was the name of the game back in the day. These days it's about planned obsolescence.
me too
Oh, thats an aftermarket radio lol. Its probably less than 10-20 years old
@@mrprofile101 we know that, the radio didnt come with that mechanism, the mechanism is stock
@@Mark-mv1fy No, its not. It's aftermarket. The stock radio is long gone.
If I were you and I had the money, I'd get that and fix it right up, since there doesn't seem to be any major faults with the car apart from things degrading due to age. Would love to see you working on this car.
Z restoration incoming?😀
That'd be so cool honestly.

This is the cleanest z I’ve seen my life

I owned a 79 280zx back in the late 90s, I would love to own a similar car again.
Wait till you find out that the 240z's from the early 70s had those gauge pods in the exact same place. Datsun was ahead of their time I guess
that's crazy to think about

I was impressed at how rust free this one was underneath. Can’t imagine these surviving around the rust belt though.

The gauge pod closest to the passenger seat in my 83’ ZX is an analog clock. Don’t know what the one in video is?
@@Sireal_beats some were digital. 83 had digital I know that.

Swear i saw this exact Datsun 280zx down the road near Charlotte, NC

3,000 of them for 1980. 2.5k of them were “black gold”, & 500 were like this: black & red.
