Blender was my first introduction to 3D software back in 2006 because it was free. And I've been using it professionally ever since. Blender has been a massive part of my career, hobbies and passions. Here's to you, Blender! Happy birthday!
Mine were TrueSpace (a very old thing), Amorphium (1999, bought it as Zbrush did not exist yet), and Imagine, as those (old versions) came as a gift in PC magazines. But around 2002 I started using Blender. I think when it became GPL...quite long ago, I don't remember well the details.
People are only using because it is free..
@@pshethia01 20 years ago that could be the sole reason... These days it is quite powerful, has a much better UI and allows making very advanced projects. Besides, the difference with 3D Studio _or_ Maya (industry standards) is not the usual "free vs commercial"; there's kind of a bigger problem. The subscription cost for those (I think the cost is similar with Maya) is around 280 and 187 euros per month in EU or 150 to 235 $ USD in the US (different prices are for yearly pre-paid, or monthly subscription), and etc in other countries. Back in the day you could buy any of the two, perpetual license, for "only" around 3500$ (still, was preferable) in the case of 3DS Max. So, I would say that for medium size and small companies (specially for several seats), plus most freelancers, the commercial option has gone crazy in cost. So, just _being free_ is a reality that in this case has additional nuances. It has become really expensive. For example, in 2D, your costs are a small fraction of this (Affinity Photo 75 bucks perpetual license (purchase), or even the Photography plan, or the whole Adobe cloud).
@@pshethia01 I've used Maya and Houdini as well. And while both have their uses in my workflow occasionally, Blender continues to be my primary tool for 97% of 3D work.
I switched to Blender from Cinema 4D last year and I pay for blender so there.

The Blender Team and Blender Community have worked so hard to make 3d tools accessible to hobbyists, and future professionals and I can't thank you guys enough. To be able to make movies and animations similar to the ones I grew up watching, and even stuff coming out today... I don't think it can be quantified how special that is.

I´ve used blender since I was 11 back in 2013. I was incredibly childish even for that age, partially because I got Asperger´s, and Blender helped me process a lot of emotions I was too immature to deal with in traditional ways. This is incredibly emotional for me. Thank you, Blender.

@@abdulhameedlawal8579 Yeah, I found a video about the game engine and I was captivated by the idea of making my own games. That was all it was at the beggining, a game. Like playing with legos, crayons or clay but for older kids. Everything I did sucked for like the first 7 years though hehe, precisely because I treated it like a game and not a serious ambition.
о а я в 2012 и до 2019 потом сломалась то ли сгорела видеокарта и потом поменял на 2 гиговую и щас уже на 12 гигов стоит очень доволен что это программа могла для меня сделать все только благодарся мои усилиям, кстате мне было в 2012 тоже 11 лет примерно, мне очень понравилось что я смог и ошибки и все понравилось как я изучал эту программу, эх круто

The Blender team is a family. They live in a home and everybody has their room. So, I was in the kitchen with the camera man and some lady and suddenly she saw an anniversary date marked on the calendar...the rest is like nodes. Just kept on growing.
