Best tip ever from the guy who taught me to fly fish many years ago: When you are changing into or out of neoprene socks or waders with socks, take the floor mat out of your car, and stand on that. One errant step onto a small piece of gravel can puncture your neoprene. I have had my Simms waders for 15+ years, and the neoprene socks have never leaked.

Great tips as usual, and I loved the icicle shot! Only thing I'd add is don't wear underwear when wet wading I used to guide in Africa and even on the warmest days your pants dry quickly on the outside but your underwear stays wet all day, and can lead to really bad rash on your inner thighs.

Your channel is great man...so much better than Orvis or anybody who basically says "You take the length of the leader and the diameter of your dry fly and multiply it times the mass of the sun...these flies at our store for 700 dollars!" So thank you for that!

hopefully that beer can didn't weight 200 bounds empty and ended up on the bank, see beer cans and so much more on banks of trout streams amazing how heavy things get after their empty yet so very light full

Shorts and light wading boots from academy (the more expensive of the two about $50 buy them on sale). Free balling is the way to go due to rash possibilities. Lots of tick spray unless your going thru bramble brush pants become a necessity.

Good video as always. I wet wade whenever possible, use chacos for my footwear and it’s always worked well for me.
Never understood the practice of many fly fishers to wear chest waders hiked all the way up in the middle of summer...especially when wading in western waters often takes place in depths well below the chest...like knee deep or thigh deep at most. I bought a pair of patagucci waist high waders for cold water and since then, my chest waders have stayed in the bag year round.

I don't believe that Pabst is a Minnesota Beer. The original Pabst brewing company was located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Maybe, because G Hielman (sp?) purchased Pabst, then, I suppose that the beer is now a Minnesota Beer. Too bad for Pabst.

Great content. Thanks for the tips. I wear a pair of tight-fitting bike tights under a pair of shorts. Keeps your legs warm(er) and you don’t get cut up on the brush. And with neoprene socks you have to up-size your boots.

They sell speedos for about $8 apiece. You can even get them in camo these days Cheapest waders you'll ever own. Biggest advantage is that all the other fishermen will keep their distance from you. Downside is the insects will not, but that's what bug spray is for, am I right?

I just use running sneakers and use micro spikes so I don’t fall on my ass. And when the water is ice cold and I use waders I still use my running sneakers.

I bought some neoprene chest-high wading pants/boots because the were on sale. I'm in Reno, it's been 100F-ish. I am awesome. No, I'm a moron. Or maybe I'm a genius in January. Who knows. I think the point is, clothing is a tool when fly fishing, not a fashion statement. I did buy an obnoxious vest though. Halloween costume.

I prefer wet wading, but that doesn't quite work in the middle of winter. This video popped up when I was watching reviews for Astral Loyak water shoes, which seem excellent for wet wading, even though they are made for kayaking and other water sports. All the major fishing companies make water shoes, but they all have very bad reviews. It looks like Astral may fill the void left by Orvis, Simms, etc.

I like to snip or melt a hole in the toe and the arch of every brand new pair of wet wading socks so that they drain water. If you don't they fill with water and make your feet unnecessarily heavy. I don't wear regular socks with them either.

I just grab a pair of El Cheapo rubber boots that go up close to your knee. Easier, cheaper, waterproof, and gets me to 90% of the places I want to go. You don't have to source neoprene socks, or deal with wet boots since the rubber just dries/can be wiped dry.

Little stuffs they dont teach...aka part common sense which i admit, i may be a little light on. I blame weed, really im just dumb. So, i just bought some waist highs, or "guide waders" for when im fishing these rivers that are knee high or juat above... But not high enough for the chest highs. I almost passed out gettin my fat ass geared up... So went home and ordered the leg waders. I need some rubber sole wading boots, my simms are felt. Next purchase is gonna def be some freeFly apparel pants, (all their shits cool) and some nice rubber wading boots with these socks and leg waders. I may cancel now and do this. Its hot. Waters cold... NO more chest waders til october
