    I own the Longines, I own a Orient Diver, a Seiko Diver and a Citizen Diver. All automatic. By far the Longines is the best watch of them all. Beside being the most accurate the Longjnes feels like better quality and looks like a watch of a higher category on the wrist. Never had any regret about buying this one.

    My coworker has this watch, I have to say that esthetically I like it a lot, what annoys me about Longines is the 21mm lug with, I had a hard time finding straps for my old moon phase chrono and my buddy tells me he keeps it on the bracelet because he can't find "decent" 21mm straps.
    As always, your review was spot on! Thanks for sharing!

      I agree D, the aesthetics are good, but so many other little annoying things. I don't know what the deal is with the odd numbered lug widths....from a design perspective..is 1mm in either direction really making THAT mush of a difference?! Hope you're doing well D! besos. xxx

    I really enjoy my hydro-conquest watch from Longines. I like the blue sunburst dial. The bracelet is rather showy and accents the watch perfectly. People compliment me on my Longines watch often. The polished stainless steel is very shiny. Trust this watch it is 'eguipment' but looks good enough to take to dinner.

    A small note that is a sweet deal concerning this watch! The Eta of this watch was used by tissot to win the COSC with "le locle" as the best Chronometer I believe in 2012. Just makes this watch so much better!!!! I got mine last month amazing watch for the price

    The ETA movement is customised, it runs at 7 beats per second instead of 8 giving it a 65 hour power reserve instead of the standard 40. It is also decorated and has a few other modifications that I can't remember off the top of my head.

    great honest review. A really well made watch with the drawbacks you have highlighted which at this price point is unforgivable especially using pins instead of screws on an otherwise well made bracelet. Thanks for bringing this one to our attention

    • @CGAWCChannel
      @CGAWCChannel  8 лет назад

      It really is well made, but as you point out, some of the short comings are a bit mind boggling when you consider that the price point is approaching 1,000 USD from a company with the resources and foundation that Longines have. I could almost forgive it a bit more from a micro-brand without the manufacturing experience, but from this brand....not so much.

      I guess the numerals have some Panerai Luminor reminiscence. Like Andy I'm not the biggest fan of them either, I'm more a topper dial person, but since I have both the Certina Action Diver, the Hydroconquest, and the Planet Ocean, the Longines numerals can be fun every once in awhile, to counterbalance other dial variations ! (I hope this makes sense)

  • @LouisWinthorpe622

    It made 21mm my favourite strap /bracelet width. If 2mm is significant enough to give people a preference between 20mm and 22mm, then I don't think it's ridiculous for 1mm to make a difference in preference, too. It makes 20mm look and feel a bit thin to me and its doesn't bear as much of an 'over presence' as a 22mm. Maybe it's just my wrist size or personal preference but that is my preference: I like 21mm the best.
    The 2824 in it has obviously been super regulated and may have had significant parts replaced to achieve it's accuracy, and the consistency of that accuracy under various conditions (temperature, position, etc). It's really, really accurate. Mine has always kept averages, when tracked, of between +3.7s/d, when it was new, to -1.1s/d, tracked over fairly long periods, now that it is 2 years old.
    They are great. Really well made. Great fit and finish. BUT it is sooo a desk diver with that low profile bezel and I don't think you mentioned the 2 smooth, unknurled, sections, top and bottom, that interrupt the coin edge and seem to be done just to aesthetically conform to the lines and dimensions of the lugs. Which is a little bit weird.
    Lume is crap and I don't even know why they bothered with the expense of a diver's extension in the clasp. No one is ever going to use this as a tool watch 'in the drink'.
    I have loved owning and wearing it but now that I know a bit more about watches I would probably save for longer, stretch my budget a bit more, or part with it as a stepping stone towards putting more funds into buying an Oris Aquis or a watch made by Ball, instead.
    As a first Swiss watch, though, especially for how much you could pick one up for on the 2nd hand market, it would an excellent choice as it is a very rewarding and pleasureable watch to own.

    Hello CG, great channel! ...and lovely review! I own watches from 'several' watch brands, after about 40 years of collecting and flipping and collecting and flipping again.... :) I do love the Longines brand and this model in particular. I owned the 39 mm quartz version as a beater watch and also have the 39 mm automatic blue dial model at this moment. Great Watch, which is very versatile as well. You are very much right about the push pins in the bracelet. I was rather disappointed when I saw that the first time, but I soon found out that the quality of the bracelet is still very good though. Thank you!

    Spot on review, valid criticisms . I have owned the 39mm auto version for the last 4 years . The band width is 19 MM. which I find odd but I don't intend to put it on anything else anyway . And the crown guards are damn annoying but I love this watch nonetheless !

      Thank you Jettender! I can certainly agree with you loving the watch and it's possible I was maybe a bit too critical, but there were just a few small things that got under my skin. You have the larger model and to me it just seemed to lay wrong on my arm so I opted for the smaller one..I think they made several variations of the Hyrdo,older ones even having embossed instead of ceramic bezels which IMO are way nicer.Nice review !

      @CGAWCChannel  8 лет назад

      Thanks for checking out the video. I can def. understand going for the smaller one here and I actually bet it wears a bit bigger than the 38mm specs, but still comfy. This one certainly wears bigger than I think most people would be expecting at 41mm and just pushed it a bit too big in feel. It's a good looking piece, just not as finely finished as it could have been.

    I personally think just from viewing these that the crown guards would dishearten me from buying this, though after getting used to the oyster bracelets going to something like this won't be much of an issue but I just can't understand why they would not make them screw links...
    Great review and though I might not be a fan of this I can definitely appreciate the work that Longines put to make it. But that bezel was tilting me, the way it clicks just sounded cheap...

      CG AWC Channel Hi happy 2017 and thanks for replying,I got the watch on Boxing Day and have worn it daily. I'm very happy so far,in Australia the recommended retail price seems to be $1600. I was able to get 25% off on Boxing Day and for me one of the best things about this watch is value for money. At this price point there will be some compromises on quality but Longines are giving a lot. The bracelet is very comfortable and fits me well. I agree that the crown could have been done better and is a bit awkward to use. It keeps good time for a mechanical watch and is consistently gaining 5 seconds a day and I've been adjusting it every couple of days. This is my first Swiss watch and I'm hooked,it's been a very enjoyable purchase and a wonderful gift from my family. Thanks for the great review. Regards Ian

    I have skinny wrists myself but bought the 41mm. What makes it war so huge in my eyes is the design of the endlinks. They just look too massive. I put it on a strap and now it looks perfect. Also the lume on mine is horrible. Mine is a 2014 model..

    • @CGAWCChannel
      @CGAWCChannel  8 лет назад

      I really can't believe how big it wears. I did war it on a leather and it was certainly more manageable. I wonder if they made a big change in the lume since 2014, the one on this one was pretty good. Thanks for checking out the video!

    Question about the lume: I've heard it is lackluster at best on this watch, yet you speak to the contrary. In your opinion, why do you think this view is held? Can you speak more to the lume's strength, longevity and application on the Hydroconquest?

    Unfortunately, this watch ticks none of my boxes - I have yet to find a reason to buy a Hydroconquest, in fact a Longines in general. The only Longines watch that may get me triggered, is actually a Conquest V.H.P.! Not visually, but simply because I think the technical concept is great.

    Always nice with other peoples point of views although I do not agree in many of yours. I think you must've soft hands since I do not find the shoulders sharp at all. I like the discrete red second hand tip not at all a design failure in my opinion. Cannot understand why you point out the case back as one of the coolest thing of the watch but hey you like red I like blue you know? But then you should try Chr. Wards Trident watches. Those case backs are seriously engraved and they are really nice watches as well. I own a Trident GMT Automatic (only automatics off course :)) myself and can highly recommend them they're awesome.

      Thank you very much for sharing your thoughts. It's possible that the sharp edges are not the same across the many generations of the Hydroconquest. Over all I don't mind the design, I just don't find it eye catching for me personally. In some ways, I wanted a little more attention to detail from a company like Longines. As for the caseback, I thought it was very well done compared to others that simply go for the display back or plain case back. I do agree that C Ward has some phenomenal case backs! I have handled the tridents and they are great looking pieces that feel nice as well. I appreciate you checking out the video!

    3 Orient Mako 2s or 1 Longines Hydroconquest? Lol This watch puts me very much in mind of the new version Orient Mako although the $200 - $300 Orient Mako 2 does of course have the benefit of the much fabled ''in house'' movement. Like you I'm always on my guard when I find out about renamed ETA movements and that along with the silly money(in my opinion) their asking for this piece means I'll personally be steering well clear of it... There are just too many better alternatives for the money and indeed for considerably less money about for this watch to be a realistic consideration. But these are only my own thoughts and I'm sure there are many people who would be highly delighted to own a Longines Hydroconquest.
    Thank you for very much for another brilliant video CG. Take care bye for now.

      Thank you Peter. You're right to point out that there are sooooo many alternatives at this price point and below that have some better execution when you get into the details. I'm never a fan when ETA movements are renamed...it's the implication to make the movement seem to be more than it is, not that there is anything wrong with ETA movements, but it also shouldn't be mis-represented. The Mako 2 is GREAT buy and would be tough to beat! All my best Peter.

      I can be called a Longines fan and I felt this watch was not worth the money. all that CG mentioned on the video, so I bought the Mako II and it works and feals great, for a 1/3 of the price. I have the Legend Diver and that I love but it's another price range. all I can tell you is my experience and if you buy the orient I think you won't regred it. cheers

      Pedro Dias yes, as soon as I saw the watch I thought straight away of how similar it looks to the far better value Orient Mako 2...From the general shape of the bezel the 12,6,9 layout to the red tipped arrow second hand. It's almost as if Longines have spotted the success of the recently released Orient and jumped straight on the same bandwagon.
      Thank you very much for your kind advice and guidance. I've already had a little look around online for a Mako 2 and if I can find one with a blue dial, who knows! Thanks again bye.

      CG AWC Channel Thank you very much for your prompt reply to my comment CG. I agree with you entirely when you bemoan the fact that there is much subterfuge in the watch industry at present. My current pet hate being this predilection many companies appear to have of shoving cheap Asian movements into shiny watch cases stamping the words 'Made in Germany' on the dial then charging us 'the intelligent, discerning watch collectors' a premium for the pleasure of strapping one of these abominations to our wrist. Surely there should be some kind of law or statute brought in, in the same way as there is with respect to buying Swiss, to, at least, curtail this questionable practice? If there are similar regulations as apply to the Swiss watchmaking industry then I'm not personally aware of them nor have I heard any mention of them? Maybe you could enlighten me? Anyway it's almost 1.30 am ( bloody watch is fast again! Lol) here in the UK so I'll say goodbye for now. Great video, as always! Bye for now.

      @@CGAWCChannel I have the Mako and the Hydroconquest. And while the Mako 2 is a great watch, especially for the price, the Hydroconquest is easily two classes better. Deciding between this Longines and one of the Certina divers (also from the Swatch company) was a lot harder for me. Still chose the Longines.

    Way too many negatives to waste an automatic movement in. But it's reminiscent of those Casio "Edifices" or "Avalanche" or something like that, I've replaced batteries in them.

    It's a nice watch for sure, very much like the ceramic bezel (I assume ceramic from the matted tone?) but I feel we're already pretty spoilt for dive watches with the submariner, seamaster etc. Good review though!

    Thanks for the great video, I'm in the market for a nice dive watch, how long does the lume lasts? (I will take it for diving- besides using my computer gadgets etc.). I'm debating between the Longines hydroconquest automatic 29mm, blue dial and the Omega seamaster dive 300m 28mm quartz, blue dial. I like everything about the Omega, but not quartz, I prefer the automatic. I have a tiny wrist, can't wear big watches. Thanks again for your video.

    I dig the watch is well. But I do believe it's a bit overpriced for what you get. In that price point that would much rather only say a Oris or the Davaso TT. You really have to question why most of the swatch group watches give their movements fancy names when they are in reality ETA's. Bugs me a little bit too. Hope all is well and you come back soon.

      It is surprising bulky...the specs are deceiving with this one...I'm guessing the 38mm wears more like a 40 or 4mm.

    For my dad's 60th I'm debating between getting him this Longines HydroConquest 41mm or the Oris Aquis 43mm. Which do you prefer? And is there a dive watch in the $1,000 - $1,500 rage you recommend?

    • @CGAWCChannel
      @CGAWCChannel  7 лет назад

      Hello Matt, sorry for the late reply. I actually think you might be better off with the Oris. Having said that, you can't change the bracelet/band on the Oris, spending on which one you get. If you think your dad would like to change bands, go with the longings. Another GREAT option, that isn't swiss, but every bit as fantastic (better in my opinion, with the in house movement) is the Citizen Grand Touring or the Citizen Grand Touring Sport. I have the sport as does my dad and we both love the hell out of it.

      I think for the money, the CWard is a better pick and Longines relied on their history a little TOO much when pricing this one. Their heritage line is a stunner though, there are a few in there I'm in love with!

    Your reviews are very informative, I liked how you critic a watch and you being totally unbiased. I am actually planning to buy this watch since I'm more attracted to the Heritage of the brand. But all thanks to your review, I have doubts already... but hey, thank yooouuu ;) soo... if it's ok, I'd like to ask for an advise on an alternative watch for me to check, that has the same price range as this watch with a better resale value and a having a "wow" factor. pretty please :)

    • @CGAWCChannel
      @CGAWCChannel  7 лет назад

      Thank you very much Rod! I'm glad you enjoy them. I try to just give my honest opinion. If you are looking for a wow factor, I have to ask, are you only looking for Swiss?? If you are I will think of other options for you. If you aren't married to a Swiss brand, Citizen has an automatic diver, with in house movement, incredible finishing, a marvelous bracelet, and a big WOW factor. It's the citizen grand touring sport. I reviewed this one after I borrowed it from him. It stayed with me for so long that I finally purchased it myself just last week. If that one isn't for you let me know and I'll think of something else. The grand touring however is the best offering in that price range in my humble opinion. There are micro brands like Eza, offering a STUNNING diver that is regulated to six position and has the best bezel I've ever played with. It's their Sealander model and worth a look as well.

      +CG AWC Channel if it's not too much ask... any other Swiss brand you want me to check after the other watches you mentioned? I'm more of a swiss brand fan.
      How about Tag Heuer F1. I'm looking at it too :)
      If talking about resale value, which has the higher, Tag Heuer or Longines?

    • @CGAWCChannel
      @CGAWCChannel  7 лет назад

      With Tag, it really depends on the specific model. The Monaco always does well as will the Autavia chronograph. Longines tends to get more love than Tag. The Longines heritage line is very handsome. If you buy either brand through an authorized dealer, you are going to take a BIG hit in resale. If you go through a grey market dealer, it won't be so bad. Certina and Hamilton are two brands that a worth a look. Hamilton has the Pan Europe which a knock out piece and the Certina DS action diver is another one I always hear great things about.
