    Quick question... If i wanted to make 500whp on a subaru 2.5L engine all the way till redline.. Which would be the better turbo to use.... gen 2 gtx3071 or gen 1 gtx3076?
    Considering that what is important to me is for the power not die off before redline.
    I'm asking because. It's generally agreed that the gen 1 gtx3071 was a good turbo for the 2.0~2.2L engines... Not the 2.5L. So does the same apply for the gen 2 gtx3071?

    Hey brotha! Want to get your opinion, trying to get as much info as possible for my build!
    So I have a 06-08 K24a2 swapped 8th civic. (Strongest 2.4L Honda has) and I am planning to Turbo it soon. I am looking at a Full Race Kit, but what's most important, as you know, is the turbo.
    I am thinking the GTX3076 would be perfect, I'm wondering when it would spool up and if would overboost the turbo if I didnt get the bigger exhaust housing, or if that housing would make it spool way high in the RPM band. Would a GTX35r be a better fit for the K24a2 just in general engine to turbo matching?
    My K24 is making 220 WHP 170 WTQ (@ 3k) NA with the lightest mods and tune CAI + Exhaust, still running stock restrictive K20 header + Cat. So the engine is pretty beefy and fiesty.

      There is some bad information online about this topic. Tims turbos has video of the billet wheel vs cast, He says that the billet wheels weight more because it is more dense, but it depends on the billet wheel. Some of the billet wheels we have are 20 grams lighter than stock and have a more aero design.
      They are designed the grab more air. I have no way to test a comparison between the 2 different styles. However, it makes sense that the wheels with the thiner blades and more narrow hub will flow more air because it has more room for more air to be grabbed.
      We use mostly billet wheels for the simple reason that they come in many different sizes that we need, they are popular, they make the turbos look good, they are a performance design, as well as with extended tips, and they are more durable over cast.
      Here is a weight comparison picture of the same size: wheel turbolabofamerica.com/holset-hx40-super-billet-compressor-wheel/

    • @chownkay
      @chownkay 8 лет назад

      +Turbo Lab America Hi Austin, if you read the blog in detail, it's not so much discussing the weight of the wheel, or billet vs cast wheel. But more of how the billet wheel was forged, e.g. 3rd order geometry and flank milled vs point milled billet wheels..

    1 can i use a .82 using the same housing ?
    2 is there a good upgrade i could do ?

    thank you in advance

    • @turbolabamerica
      @turbolabamerica  5 лет назад

      The gtx3076r is the largest of its series, so if you want to upgrade you have to upgrade to a gtx3576r or larger. The gtx3076r is rated up to 580 hp, but the turbine housing size is the limiting factor. You can probably get a .82 turbine housing that is machined to fit the gtx3076r or gtx35r. I have replacement turbines on hand. We have our contact information on our website

    • @turbolabamerica
      @turbolabamerica  8 лет назад +1

      +pekoso1 If you currently have a Gtx3076r with a .82 t3 turbine housing you could go with a 1.06 t3 turbine housing and probably make the power you want.
      To go from the gtx3576r, that combination involves replacing the GT3076r turbine 55 x 60mm (6mm shaft bore) with a gt35r turbine 62.35 x 68mm (6.35mm shaft bore).
      Since the shaf tbore is different, the compressor wheel must be machined out, or the compressor wheel replaced. Its a lot easier for me to replace the wheel. The cost to do this upgrade is 550$, which includes the rebuild, machining the turbine housing, exhanging compressor wheels, and balancing the assembly.

    • @Thr33.Sid3z
      @Thr33.Sid3z 8 лет назад

      true, but why would anyone want to run a 1.06 on a 30r when he can run a gtx3576r and make gt3582r power & gt3076r spool!?! The 1.06ar is just too laggy, even on the 30r.

    • @Thr33.Sid3z
      @Thr33.Sid3z 8 лет назад

      im not 100%, but im pretty sure you can upgrade the gtx3076 with a 35r turbine wheel upgrade kit for about $600

    • @turbolabamerica
      @turbolabamerica  8 лет назад

      It's just depends on the size engine and the amount of horsepower someone is trying to make. Keep in mind the difference in the gtx3576 and gtx3076 compressor wheel is that the gtx3576 has a 6.35 mm shaft bore to fit the gt35r turbine and the gtx3076r compressor wheel is 6.0mm shaft bore to fit the gt3076r turbine. So the gtx3076r upgrading to gtx3582r does require having the compressor wheel bore machined out or replaced with the gtx3576r wheel but the wheel design is the same otherwise.

    • @dennisrobinson8008

      4y old response. In a 2jz the Gt30 .86 are beat .64 ar across the board. Gt35 .86 ar was beaten to around 5000 where it lagged by 700 rpm. It made about 20whp more. For a street turbo the gt30 was superior with 100wtq or more at many rpm points.

    what would you say is the spool diffrence

    • @turbolabamerica
      @turbolabamerica  8 лет назад +1

      There is no correct answer for that, because it depends on the engine size. The closer the turbo flow rates is in relation to the natural flow rates on the engine the more efficient it is and quicker the spool will be. It also depends a lot on the tune, intercooler volume etc

    • @Masheen9
      @Masheen9 7 лет назад

      OP is correct. There are a lot of factors in determining spool characteristics.
      The general rule is the lower A/R of the turbine housing, the faster the spool-up, the greater the low-end torque, and the lower the high-end power. A/R is the interior area of turbine (A), {or the cylindrical spout of the snail to get picturesque}, divided by the radius from the center of the turbine to the tongue (R). Since most turbos have an array of different turbine housing A/R's, you can customize the application of the turbo, and really just need to select the best turbo for your engine size and displacement.

      Gtx is just the model, not the size of the turbo. To answer ur question tho, the smallest Gen 2 gtx series turbo to make 550 is the 3071R, It will make 0ver 600awhp and the gtx2867R might make close to 500whp... I made close to 500 with the Gen 1 gtx3071 .82ar on E85 EJ257 w/2L heads, so the Gen 2 will make a bit more!
