I didn’t realise Sam Brown’s Stop was originally in 1988 and flopped before re-releasing it in 1989 when it became a top ten hit single. Also happened to Roachford’s Cuddly Toy as well.
97 Do ya wanna funk? is incorrectly given by OCC as re-issue/re-release. This is not original 82 version, just 'Brighton Summer mix'.This version spend around 60 weeks in UK chart but never higher than 97.The mix debuts at 124 in august 86 and cant be found in YT.
It took a while but it was good to see Voyage, Voyage hit the Top Five. 1988 saw the UK chart have a bit of a fling with French with Voyage, Voyage and Joe Le Taxi. Even I'm Not Scared by Eight Wonder had some French in it. Unfortunately, it didn't work for France Gall - Elle Elle L'a sank without trace even though it was hit elsewhere.
Francis, I commend you for compiling the clips in this video. I also pity you. What a thoroughly uninspiring selection of songs to wade through. The general consensus is that the UK charts had gone to hell by the late 80's and this video is proof of that, if proof were needed. One or two good songs but the rest is just awful.
I was 4 years old when theses songs was in the charts
Memories come back. I sit at my mono radio again and listen to the British Forces Broadcasting Service as a bystander.
I was alive then and I thought I knew 80’s music, but Wow so many bands I’ve never heard of.
