I paid £499 for brand new JPX923 hot metal irons, ordered from my local pro, but the buyer didn’t like them. I was having a fitting when the fitter said these are available, seller only ride them in the sim, most are still wrapped, yours for a fair offer, hence £499. You will go some to beat that deal
I'm getting older so my memory may be a little fuzzy but I believe I paid less that $499 when I got a set of Callaway Steelhead XR irons a few years back.
Those Pings were awesome. I would have also went with them. I upgraded last summer from an old set of i20's to a used set of g430's and so far so good. I really like them.
I just bought a set of like new Bridgestone J38 Dual Pocket Cavity J38 forged irons 4-pw with Project X 5.0 shafts and GP Tour Velvet grips for $100 USD. These have to be the steal of the year. You can't even tell they have ever been played other than a few light brush marks on the sole. I want a set of Takomo 101T irons but just couldn't pass up this deal. I have been playing a set of Taylormade Tour issue R9C carbon steel irons for 12 years now and they are really great irons. Nothing like the retail version. Smaller softer heads that feel fantastic but just wanted a little change. I still plan to get the Takomo irons with KBS 90 R flex though. My R9's have S flex TT XP shafts in them and I feel like I would benefit from R flex these days at 68 years old. I just don't want to put out a large wad of cash on new clubs like I did on the Tour issue R9C irons but they have been well worth it. I do wonder how the Takomo value will hold up though. Great video by the way. Lots of options out there.
I enjoy the videos with clubs a few yrs old. With the price of new clubs, I realistically will be looking at getting clubs a few years old. Next time you are in America check out a 2ndswing store for used clubs.
In 2018 I bought a set of the 2017 TaylorMade M2's brand new but during the off season just prior to the new club releases for $599 USD. I don't know why people can't be patient enough to save their money, get to the off season and find deals on the prior year's club that is now heavily reduced in price but still brand spanking new in the wrappers. I literally built my entire bag that way. The 2017 M2's, 2018 Callaway Rogue (not st) in 2019 for $275, a Cobra king f9 5 wood in 2020 for $179 and some Cleveland RTX 4 wedges for $99 a piece all NEVER hit before I unwrapped them. Now I had cheaper starter clubs from a package set before I replaced each part of my bag, but if you're in that same position and not starting out with zero, there's no reason you can't do this same thing. Replace clubs as your game deems necessary. I would honestly say that's the best way to do this. Start with a cheap package set. Learn to get the ball consistently in the air and straight. You do that, THEN your game warrants looking at better equipment, then you can go searching for deals. But why people think buying used or buying the CostCo clubs are the only way to get nicer equipment boggles my mind when I see the off season deals. I could've bought a set of Cobra King MIM Copper headed irons for the same $599.99 price I bought my M2's for this past off season as just one of MANY examples I saw from Golf Galaxy and the PGA Tour Superstore. It's just about taking the time to do the searching. And a willingness to be patient and wait to take those clubs out to the course and use them.
Irons are the best clubs to get second hand. The only thing that can go wrong really is wear on the face when used a lot. The guys who buy the expensive irons normally don't have the time to use them, so you can get some AMAZING irons for a great price a few years later. Second hand drivers are bit trickier because they are more likely to break (Taylormade Stealth 1/2 faces bust out all the time), and are not under warranty when bought used. They also normally have ugly sky marks on them. I would always go for used irons over new.
Problem is Costco already sell new package sets from Callaway and Cobra for less than the cost of a set of Kirkland irons and a driver (and the packages have fairway woods/ hybrids in the sets). Think they will have to look at price points in the uk!
stop it James i keep trying to convince myself to stick with my irons this season then you do this vid and i’m uming and aring again, dam you Robinson 😂
There's a set of ping I 500's just like those I keep talking myself out of, 450 dollars, for sale locally. Now I'm real tempted, dang! Yeah, second hand clubs for me, as long as they're in user freindly shape. Grips I change anyways.
That’s exactly why I bought a set and they are excellent really forgiving my yardages have gone up by 30 yards so try em if you hate em take ‘em back. Bet you keep em just like me
he uploads everyday, his job is to get views and content I dont see the problem, no different than all youtubers reviewing the new clubs but you seem to take offense when its a Kirkland ? Interesting.
@@DanB- My personal opinion is that it’ll put viewers off eventually. I used to watch a lot of James stuff but it all seems a bit similar and contrived these days. Good luck to him though if that’s the route he wants to go down. Kirkland really isn’t much of thing in the UK, so assume it’s aimed at increasing his US viewing numbers, which pay better RPM
Hi James just a question for you I do not play a lot of golf game because of health problems thinking of tidings up my clubs for the new season would like to put a carbon like sticky back fablon type stickier not sure if it could effect the club can you tell me if it would thank you
@@leesmith5994 thanks, yes, newer model! i saw that i530 is coming, but i500 would be ok for me i guess still! ok, thanks for comment! btw i use ping glide 3.0. and they are easy wedges to hit, got them second hand (i buy everything used as you can "try" them end sell pretty much for the same price you buy them)
I second this. Regarding irons, Wilson does kinda get snubbed by most golf RUclipsrs. I know they haven't been quite on par with other big brands (yes, I still count Wilson as a big brand), but not as far off as their woods. And what I've understood is that their blades were actually quite on par with most. And if you can get 1-2gen newer 2nd hand irons from wilson for the same money as you pay for TM, Ping etc, would it even out their differences? Edit: Oh, and about snubbing. I don't remember James actually doing that once testing new Wilsons. I know FG Tour V6 isn't actually new, but could James test those against some similarily priced "premiums"? Or Takomos/Caleys/whatnot. I'm firmly in Takomo camp now (being a domestic brand is a big part, as is quality), but still.
Go 2nd hand proven irons from a trusted brand, you can try before you buy, easier to get something in your specs & the resale value will be far higher than the Kirklands if you want to move them on.
Hi Robert, thanks for speaking for over quarter of a million people and over 2 million people this month. I’m glad you feel so strongly about your own opinions. 2nd hand Pings, you really can't go wrong, especially at a starter/high handicap improver.
Agree. I've seen Ping g400 sets going for £150-200 on Ebay. I got a set of Mizuno JPX 921 Pros for £300.
@@Craig07Lamazingly cheap! both
Disagree ping irons still TOO expensive 2nd hand for the high handicapper/starter... there would be cheaper options out there even new...
@davidcooper3317 - a set of ping G10 irons for £150 a G10 driver £80 a five wood £70 and you're pretty much sorted for a couple of years

Just a word of advice, used iron sets can be custom fit that doesn’t suit you so try each club!
As a lefty, Kirkland is not an option currently. So I really appreciate videos like this. Also, I tend to buy off the secondary market anyway.
I paid less for my p790s with the shaft option i wanted used for less than 6 months....i like the balls and the wedges and gloves are a shout
You're wrong about them losing value. If you don't like them you can just return them. Costco will take back anything.

GC4C do PXG 0211’s £330-60 for 4-PW and sometimes GW too. Would have thought as an entry club comparison they would have been worth a butchers
We get it, Costco Kirkland videos do well in views for Golf RUclipsrs. But do we really need this many?

Just entered the market at a similar price point and picked up cobra forgetec 2020 irons 4-pw for £320
ping i500 are good for HCP 17? im pretty ok iron player, got down from 21 this year. they look really niceee!!!

F me and my lousy memory. I was like "Is this a dejá vu or did James already do this video 🤨". It was the DRIVERS video 🤦. 😂
When you could get new Takomos for just a few bucks more, then something equal used would be $300.
Those Mizunos are what I'd have went with if anything
Looking forward to this test, great content as always pal
Gigagolf Pursuit M410, DTC $375 for 5 iron to PW. Very similar to Tacomo.
Why not Cobra irons? I'm playing with a 2nd hand set of Tec Forged irons, and i love them.
How much did you pay for them
@@JamesRobinsonGolf Hi James, I payed 340€ for the irons 4-pw. So thats like 290 pounds i guess for the irons.
Those second hand Mizuno look tasty
Wish there was a store like this near my town! Over 2 hour drive to a Dick’s with very little for us lefties.
It was pretty obvious that you would prefer the Titleist over the Mizuno
They are £485 with VAT James.

Still playing my rocket blades
James, "Do not buy" not "Do not but". Typo!
Proof reading isn't a thing anymore
Why buy used clubs when q can get new. For same price?
I'd have the Mizuno's over the Kirklands.
I'll just stick with my 2023 p790s for a while
I would take the second hand Mizuno irons, sorry Kirkland
Just go to golf partner Japan. Get like 1 year old models for a third the price.
I got a set of Taylor Made M4 for £469
You are really pushing these guys....
For irons, should’ve looked at Wilson. Hard to beat
i would go even more broke if i lived near that store.....

Yuck
Someone must have had a dodgy hotdog from Costco posting 5 videos in 2 weeks ?
The mizuno all day long
2nd hand isn’t bad but will never buy them if they look like crap.
Y James, Y
I would go with the Ping. But I bought a brand new set of Honma Tr20p for $450 and free shipping
