Love it. 1979 Reed driving a Pontiac Firebird formula. Dom “where did you learn how to drive?” Reed is wearing the same hat he wore in Smokey and the Bandit 2 also with Dom.
Silly movie trying weakly to be serious, but I enjoyed every minute. Tonnes of characters and it looked like everyone was having a great time filming it. I can just imagine how often they had to cut because the cast must have cracked up laughing.
Little did the guy in the beginning running with the guitar knew at this time , was that this role would lead him to great success as 18 years later he would cameo as illegal alien in the movie men in black !!! And right at the beginning of the film again just like before, For like a solid 3 minutes!!!!! Hell of a career!
A bit slow in the beginning, but a good build-up nonetheless. Enjoyable and quiten funny, worth the watch! Never watched this before - and it just appeared in my YT feed. Introducig that security dog @31:00 - hilarious!
The ultimate cop movie were everything goes right the wrong way! The ultimate line for me is : You look at my car I still have 32 more payments on this car!
Donald Westlake wrote the screenplay... Funniest Mystery Writer ever! He also based it on a true story [HUH??] Biggest Bonus: Suzanne Pleshette... who was NEVER more smokin'! Yowza!
45 years old! It’s hot stuff indeed based on the real life “deep cover” police operation in America The late Dom Deluise’s directorial debut and co-stars with Suzanne Pleshette and Jerry Reed Granted we spend a lot of time in this shop for the first 50 minutes but it finally has a change of scenery when the stakes are raised There’s even some exciting gun fights sprucing things up next to some cool explosions There’s even a final brawl near the end that’s all kinds of crazy When it comes to real black marketers things can escalate out of control Some catchy 1970s tunes too This 70s cop flick is very funny and quite a treat for an easy viewing
🤠 imagine the behind the scenes behavior that went on while filming this masterpiece of schtick comedy mel broooks nominated it four for awards and won them all...???- - -
06may2024 Hot Stuff is a 1979 American action crime comedy film starring Dom DeLuise, Suzanne Pleshette, Jerry Reed and Ossie Davis. DeLuise also directed the film (the only film where he did so), and the song "Hot Stuff" was written and performed by Reed. Miami police detectives Ernie, Louise, Ramon, and Doug (played by DeLuise, Pleshette, Avalos, and Reed), frustrated at their inability to convict the criminals they arrest, decide to set up a sting as a fencing operation to trap criminals in a pawn shop, recording the illegal transactions on the (then) new technology of portable VHS videotape cameras. With less than helpful support from their captain (Davis), the trio decides to re-sell some of their stolen items to stay in business. Trouble follows as they run afoul of the local mob boss. Doug sees his car destroyed by a bomb (and laments "I just had it washed"), he and the others have a shootout with gun runners at a waterfront condominium construction site, and they ultimately arrest the criminals en masse at a party. IMDB Half good .... half not so good .......... merklekranz29 January 2014 The first half of "Hot Stuff" is definitely better than what follows. Dom DeLuise, Jerry Reed, Susan Pleshette, and Luis Avalos, open a pawn shop, specifically to receive stolen items. The nice assortment of quirky characters, and their bizarre goods, being delivered into the hands of police officers is funny. What happens is they eventually run out of money, and have to start selling off the hot items to make ends meet. Unfortunately a "Godfather" element completely misfires, as does most of the remainder of the film. There is enough here to recommend a watch, just don't expect the comedy to hold up through the entire movie.
Mrs Richards: "I paid for a room with a view !" Basil: (pointing to the lovely view) "That is Torquay, Madam ." Mrs Richards: "It's not good enough!" Basil: "May I ask what you were expecting to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window ? Sydney Opera House, perhaps? the Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically past?..." Mrs Richards: "Don't be silly! I expect to be able to see the sea!" Basil: "You can see the sea, it's over there between the land and the sky." Mrs Richards: "I'm not satisfied. But I shall stay. But I expect a reduction." Basil: "Why?! Because Krakatoa's not erupting at the moment ?"
22:11 This guy is the first gas station attendant (robbed) in WW and The Dixie Dance Kings! Now he's the criminal! 36:02 Seinfeld Sr.! 45:20 Hey, Fred. Where's Scooby? 50:00 "Hooper's" punching bag stunt coordinator of diminutive stature. I think he's wearing heels here. Not sure on the other guy (who he is or whether or not he's wearing heels....). 1:04:43 This riff sounds a lot like ABBA's "Money Money Money". Was Ray Parker involved? 1:07:01 Pat McCormick. Long time writer for The Johnny Carson Show. Oh, and Big Enos from the Bandit franchise, of course.
Never heard a Jerry Reed song or saw a Jerry Reed movie that I didn't like. Thanks for the upload. :D Whew! They didn't blow up the Firebird. They blew up a Camaro. :D
DD, like John Candy, was a diamond in the rough for more dramatic roles(imo). You can see a glimpse of it here. Candy showed it in JFK, as the conn3cted Louisiana guy....disturbing, off putting g and frightening. Robin Williams did it a couple times too. Comedians acting very serious add a new dimension to their skill base.
The one curse word that should not really be thrown around so nonchalantly. I didn’t realize it was so prominent in this movie. I really could not recommend it because of that.
Love it. 1979 Reed driving a Pontiac Firebird formula. Dom “where did you learn how to drive?” Reed is wearing the same hat he wore in Smokey and the Bandit 2 also with Dom.
One of the best comedies ever, I was 19 years or so.

I've never seen Dom Deluise use swear words until now.
I saw Arnie's "I'll be back" originated from this film. Also Anthony Michael Hall mimicking Dom's chomping at marijuana smoke!
