Maqam Kurd freestyle + fatihah

Here I'm humming and then reciting surah fatihah in maqam kurd. To be honest maqam kurd is probably my least favourite maqam - sounds too sing-songy to me. But I recorded this for students in my Intro to Maqamat class, and thought I’d share it here with you as well.
Because I’m not a huge fan of kurd, you'll notice I rarely post clips in kurd - and you guys are always asking me “what abt kurd?!?!” … seems like a lot of you like it. I guess to each their own. But if I had to describe what my ideal recitation sounds like, sing-songy and pop-nasheedy woudn’t be it.

Salam, what are the things we should look for to know when someone is reciting in Bayati vs reciting in Kurd? What are the indications to look for?

sorry late reply. Two ways to look at this. If you were one of my advanced students I would tell you to approach it a bit technically - the difference is at the bottom, with kurd there's a specific way of finishing. 1/2 step at the bottom. But the other way is more generally based on the feel. It's less precise but kurd *often* has more of a sing-songy feel to it. Again with the feel that's like a guideline not a rule, because you can find examples of bayati that have that feel as well. Hope that helps. In reality they're kind of similar and often used interchangeably
