I didn’t even know I had the tow hitch on my X but I looked on my order and it showed I had the trailer hitch. I just sold my bass boat right before I bought my 2024 X in July. Thanks great job.
Hi Steven. Thats so awesome. Im glad you finally took delivery. I appreciate the positive feedback. Im working on another video that may also be helpful. Enjoy the X!
Just a follow-up, for what it's worth: After doing everything right, the hitch would not snap on. Took it to the dealer and they looked at it right away and even THEY couldn't do it. They persisted for over a half hour using different hitches and finally succeeded. I used it to pull a trailer and it worked great. Something I'd not thought of is pulling something takes away my auto pilot. (not to mention the obvious reduction in range) Take care. S
@@scdi12 Thats intersting. I wonder why it was so difficult to put on. I also didn't know that while towing the auto pilot doesn't engage. Thanks for the info!
the part that is next to where you insert the hitch (you tapped and said not sure what it is) I think is a door flap that you can pull open and plug the wiring harness into.
Lol u did great for your first try. And thank you for going through the anxiety to show us (it gave me slight anxiety too as as i can totally relate). Thank you so much!
Im so bad at repairing or tinkering with things. I have no skills whatsoever when it comes to that. And of course I break the one clip that was holding the cover up. Pure anxiety. 😳
I hear you brother I do not have the mechanical skills either, Great Job getting it done. Like you I don't think I will every use the tow hitch that came with the X
You are killing it. Thanks for showing us how that tow hitch is installed. I too would have the same level of anxiety over this. But you showed us that it is a rather straight process. Boy, I am really looking forward to getting my Model X. They are now saying July (yikes) for delivery. Thanks again. Oh yes, I'm still hoping to get a reply email from you. Cheers
In the UK the electric panel is left of hitch. No harness is required. Take care replacing panel that it is clipped in secure. I obviously did not secure mine and it fell off and got lost. Thankfully a very helpful Tesla ranger came by and replaced for just a few bucks. I use the hitch in summer months for towing RV or for bike rack
I completely forgot about the bike rack. I think I may use it for that purpose. I won't tow anything but I could use it for the rack. Im waiting to hear back from Tesla the 2 clips that are broken. Thanks for the info and watching!
Can you show the front tow hitch? Maybe a picture measuring the thread to the front bumper. Video idea 🧐. Can you do a video for any front license plate holders that use the front tow bar slot. A holder?
You can use a coin in lieu of an actual screwdriver. Those plastic screws break easily. Had to replace both of ours. The hitch can be used for a variety of uses beside "towing". Various items like bike or storage racks can use the tow receptacle. In our case, we used it as a recovery point when we high center in some snow.
Can you give us an update on the wiring harness and I really wanna understand what might’ve been missing? We are getting ready to put our bike rack on the back so your video was very helpful. We picked up our Tesla model X Plaid just a few days ago.
Hi TCharlton. I haven't attempted to use the tow hitch since the video. If I can get hold of a small RVI 'll give it a try and post the video. Congrats on the Plaid X!
No wiring harness needed. Left of the tow hitch was a flap. That flap is for 6/7 blade wiring that you would hook up to a trailer. If you need the 4/5 flat version, you can just buy a converter basically anywhere(I bought mine at U-Haul).
7:29 Do you know the part number for the cap that protects the tow hitch (the one you pulled out after removing the outer cover)? Mine did not have this cap.
Thank you. This youtube experience has really taught me a lot about filming and editing. Im still very new to it but learning on the job. Thanks for supporting the channel and for watching!
@@joelrnyc325 It came with it but the wire harness is missing. I called Tesla today and there trying locate one for me and the clips that snapped that holds the cover in.
The Y is the other tesla that can handle towing, and it's 1000 when you order the car, or 1200 installed post purchase, which includes the wiring. Depending what you will be towing on the y, it can reduce your driving distance by 60% or more.
@@rbowlesusa You should call Tesla. I did today and they're going to call me back tomorrow to let me know when they'll have it in stock so that they can send it to me. I most likely wont be using it but I'd still like to have it. Let me know if you call and what they say.

Oh that makes sense. I didn't want to touch because I thought I'd damage it. LOL
Useful. Very good explanation and extremely thorough. You’re better at it than you think. Cheers!
Very helpful. I knew it came with a tow hitch but wondered why most all the Model X's I see didn't have one sticking out. .
I honestly don't think I'd ever use it. I don't own an RV and I won't be hauling anything with it. Great to have if needed but probably won't be used.

Its a good accessory to have I guess but I'll never touch it again. I think I'd rather rent a full RV than pull on with the X. 🤷🏼
This is a great video.
Will this work on a 2023 model x?😊

Love the honesty and thanks for video!
Thanks for making this video! I’m going to want to do the same thing! I’m going to tow a trimaran sailboat behind my X.
Sounds like fun. Be careful with the range tho. Im told that towing anything with a Tesla will kill your range. Good luck.
great tow hitch video
Thank you Mr. Electric Man!
Putting back the plastic cover was a hassle for me but my son put it back in a snap. Hope it doesn’t fall off. Is there any trick to that?

Thats good to know for the next time I attach the hitch. Id like to purchase a bike rack for the hitch. Probably this summer. Thanks for the comment.
