Huge thanks to my friend Alana for introducing me to this lovely song by Mary Chapin Carpenter and lending her beautiful voice to this performance. Also, shout out to Alana’s dad for being our cameraman here. :) And of course Toni Lindgren on those saucy bluegrass licks!
Don't you guys ever get tired of perfection? Evidently not because you nailed it here... again. Let's see, beautiful location, excellent camera and audio work, fused spiritual Harmony,, Tony's magical fingers,
When isn't she? So consistent and just a great feel to all of her playing. As a guitarist myself, I'm always jealous of the sheer number of talents she possesses on the instrument-and then there's her sweet voice! Just amazing talent all around on this channel.
This song is about the writer Eudora Welty who saw Halley's Comet in Jackson Mississippi twice. Mary Chapin Carpenter tells a nice story during her concerts about how Miss Welty invited her to her house and how she played the song for her.
So Reina nd Toni thinking about what should we do this week? We could play some devastating guitar and sing some amazing vocals together. Wait, what if we added another INCREDIBLE voice to the mix? Yeah, let's do that. Thank you all so very much. The three of you sounded just great in every bit of it. Would love to hear more in the future. Truly wonderful. You ladies never disappoint. Really wonderful to hear Alana again. Also, one of many great songs from the genius mind of MCC. Cheers all!
I was 13 in 86 for last Halley’s Comet visit. I was too young and stupid to watch it. I may be dead when it comes back, but if not I hope I remember this song and play this version to honor its visit. So brilliant !
Then you were 24 years old in 97 when Hale Bopp was visible to the naked eye for almost 18 months and was much much more impressive a comet. You won’t get to see that one again unless you live to be over 4000 years old.
That was truly beautiful. The innocence of the song coupled with the harmonies and each of the voices really painted a picture. And of course, the guitar playing was on point.
Beautiful song! The finger picking had a perfect blend with Toni's flat picking. Toni gets better every time I hear her play. She is a fine lead flat picking guitarist. So smoothly pulling off her distinguished single notes with a fine rhythm. The overall trio is great with dynamic vocal harmony.
Terrific! Mary Chapin Carpenter was seemingly inspired by the writings of our own Eudora Welty of Jackson, Mississippi, a bit over an hour south of me. So, you've got Carl Sagan, Roswell, and Halley's Comet. Noel
Thank you, thank you, and again thank you. MCC has always been one of my most admired singer/songwriters and you all did her proud. Was fortunate enough to see her on an in the round tour with Dar Williams, Shawn Colvin and Patty Griffin in a small auditorium some years back, what a magnificent show. Still hoping to one day see you all in South Florida, lodging provided! 💗
I’ve watched this vid at least 50 times in the past few days - what a great cover of my favorite old MCC song. Maybe it’s because I’m old, but this song hits every one of my musical sweet spots. Beautifully done ladies, and Toni, your guitar work here is on another level. My new favorite RUclips video! 👍
Following you guys for years , and admire your talent. Absolute love your music. But there was always something missing. And then there is Alana!. Please Reina and Toni: team up with great talents you can find and bring you music to the next level.
Nailed it again! Loved these Sunday symphonies. I was lucky enough to see MCC at the Minnesota State Fair--full band, John Jennings, the whole 80s/90s band. And she covered my favorite Van Morrison song--Real, Real Gone
Oh that last "Back Then" harmony. Amen. Have a lot of MCC in my car CD collection and was hitting repeat oh Halley CTJ so many times I lost count. I do a star party in August for the Perseid Meteor Shower and have a one hour campfire program with interactive audience games and activities to teach about the night sky...You all should put a "star" repetoir set together and play a pre-show at a star party!! And by the way...the 3 of you are beautiful stars. Keep on shining gals!
Wow, somebody finally re-discovered this great Mary Chapin Carpenter song. Lovely guitar playing! I love her album, which had the classic "Down At The Twist And Shout". So many good songs on it.
Beautiful song, beautifully done. In 1985 when Halley's comet began to be visible unaided, our youngest daughter was born in December. I named her Halley. It was, and is my hope she will live to see it when it comes round again.
So beautifully performed. I sit entranced, I'm in my 70s and long term guitarist, and find your skills at such tender young ages remarkable. Your musicality is first class, but the chemistry between you is the icing on the cake...applause.
Gorgeous! What a fantastic rendition of one of my favorite MCC tunes. A longtime friend learned the intro in open position, which is much harder. Playing it in the capoed position looks far easier. I can do that!
I lived on the marsh facing east on the intercoastal in Fernandina Beach FL when the Hale Bopp comet came around in the 90s, I think it was. I was 40 or so. I came home at dusk one night and I could see this odd fuzz of cotton above the horizon in the darkening sky above my dock and the far away tree line on the other side. I knew what it was because I'd been reading about it, and wondered if I'd be able to see it. These things are commonly overblown, and I supposed it would be some tiny white dimple in the sky, barely discernable. I was thrilled to see how big and clear it was, and it remained so for days (nights!). I went next door and knocked on my 70 something old neighbor Ted's door, and told him to get out and see the comet. He was shocked, excited and thrilled too. It's a thing all should see once in their lives, especially bright and clear like that. It's a true wonder.
Sadly I didn’t get my notification for your upload on Sunday. But I searched for it and as usual was not disappointed. Your musicality is second to none. I love your original work and your interpretation of the covers. Toni’s guitar work is as usual nothing short of phenomenal. Keep up the good work.

Beautiful!
Whose bass line is it? I loved it, thanks.
You guys have the midas touch! Everything you do is pure gold!
Toni is such a pro. Hope people realize how amazing she is on that guitar
Check out her website!
We do.😊
Eu também espero que ela seja vista...
Sensacional...
Sou fã !!!
Three lovely ladies singing a lovely song.
Yep. That sure is pretty.
Toni is such an accomplished and versatile picker. Love to hear and see her showcase her talent.
So awesome playing guitar massive you I enjoy this lovely ❤❤
Toni is again killing it here!!
I love Molly Tuttle’s playing, but Toni’s has a warmth and soul that reaches out and grabs me.
When isn't she? So consistent and just a great feel to all of her playing. As a guitarist myself, I'm always jealous of the sheer number of talents she possesses on the instrument-and then there's her sweet voice! Just amazing talent all around on this channel.
I wish Dad caught that cool mandolin like thing Toni did.
Fabulous playing as always miss T
@@JimDorman There was something cool there.

I remember Mark Twain wanted to live to do that too.
the harmony of you three ladies is perfect
Elle & Toni, You are both a ray of sunshine! You represent decency, love & hope with your sweet presence. Thank you!❤
Alana has a lovely voice, very natural, without trying to force anything into it or to imitate anyone.

Consistently some of the most beautiful real music one could ever wish to hear! Absolutely love this Reina,Toni and Alana!!!💕💕💕
Nothing is better than this.
One of top 10 videos by Elle and Toni. That woman in the middle adds a wow factor.

You are all good but tony is an exceptional guitarist. Very nice sound.
Born in 1985, Halley is MY comet. My daddy held me up to the window. This comment typed through misty eyes. Thank you, ladies. This is gorgeous
Mary Chapin Carpenter would have been so proud listening to your version. Absolutely mind blowing performance
MCC is still kicking! Saw her not long ago at the Ryman. Agreed though on how great this is!
MCC did this song when we saw her last year! 💓
What a great story.
Wow, this was fresh. You should invite Alana to sing with you guys more often. The harmonies were at at other level here.

Love Alana and the folky songs she does with Reina. Never heard this one.
Beautiful song, wonderful tradition. I saw Halley in 1986, may y'all do too in 2062.
Love this song, love you all!

Toni, your versatility, of musical styles on the guitar, is really exceptional. Love listening to your playing.
Awesome performance !!! - reminds me of this 76 year old's journey to the summit of Maura Kea in Hawaii in 1986 - to see Halley's return.
Just love this pretty little song, so beautifully sung. Every time I visit RUclips, just got to play it again and again.
I've never heard that song before. It is just a sweet melody .. upbeat and with your beautiful voices combining, it is simply angelic to listen to.

You people really make a difference... by being so good at what you do.
Very nice.

A celestial event being sung, appropriately, by three angels. Beautiful.

What a gift, thank you all! The hammer of your notes, the bells of your voices.

My first time enjoying this song by you three. Harmonies are a 10+ on a 5 star scale.!
I’m arranging an autoharp version. Such a beautiful song.

Any MCC song is a winner!! Beautiful!!
You know you're good when your own sound makes you smile.😇😇😇
Between Reina's voice and Toni's guitar leads, I'm torn which I like the best. I guess I'll just enjoy them all. Great performance as always.

¡¡¿¿Cómo podéis sonar siempre tan bien?!!
This was awesome. Please consider an entire CD with Americana content. I always hear a breath of Nanci Griffith in Reina’s vocals. Well done ladies!
Thank you girls. You are just amazing.
