That was truly beautiful. The innocence of the song coupled with the harmonies and each of the voices really painted a picture. And of course, the guitar playing was on point.

I love Molly Tuttle’s playing, but Toni’s has a warmth and soul that reaches out and grabs me.
When isn't she? So consistent and just a great feel to all of her playing. As a guitarist myself, I'm always jealous of the sheer number of talents she possesses on the instrument-and then there's her sweet voice! Just amazing talent all around on this channel.
I wish Dad caught that cool mandolin like thing Toni did.

This song is about the writer Eudora Welty who saw Halley's Comet in Jackson Mississippi twice. Mary Chapin Carpenter tells a nice story during her concerts about how Miss Welty invited her to her house and how she played the song for her.
I remember Mark Twain wanted to live to do that too.

Was fortunate enough to see her on an in the round tour with Dar Williams, Shawn Colvin and Patty Griffin in a small auditorium some years back, what a magnificent show. Beautiful song! The finger picking had a perfect blend with Toni's flat picking. Toni gets better every time I hear her play. She is a fine lead flat picking guitarist. So smoothly pulling off her distinguished single notes with a fine rhythm. The overall trio is great with dynamic vocal harmony.
I’ve watched this vid at least 50 times in the past few days - what a great cover of my favorite old MCC song. Maybe it’s because I’m old, but this song hits every one of my musical sweet spots. Beautifully done ladies, and Toni, your guitar work here is on another level. My new favorite RUclips video! 👍

I was 13 in 86 for last Halley’s Comet visit. I was too young and stupid to watch it. I may be dead when it comes back, but if not I hope I remember this song and play this version to honor its visit. So brilliant !
Then you were 24 years old in 97 when Hale Bopp was visible to the naked eye for almost 18 months and was much much more impressive a comet. You won’t get to see that one again unless you live to be over 4000 years old.

An interesting tidbit: my grandfather watched Hally's Comet from under a covered wagon, as they made their way to the West Coast. He said he wouldn't be around to see it the next time it appeared, and he was correct, he passed away about four years before it came back. I was already an adult by then, so I know that I won't make it to be over 100 for the next pass.
