I watch a lot of FDNY and LAFD videos. Both would of had a water attack and ladder trucks in operation within minutes of arriving. I assume that they must of had an interior attack commenced. I'm rather surprised that a large city like Montreal would have been rather slow in their attack.
Where was the fire? In the cockloft? Or on the roof? Hard to tell from the sidewalk. They put water on some fire, because you can see the smoke color change, but it’s impossible to tell what they actually have from this camera angle…..
@@jakesmith2515 It's a rood membrane fire. Probably a patch job gone wrong. Still the concern of drop down fire into cockloft and top floor. First due companies should have realized this with no smoke showing from top floor windows.

Don't park near the building on fire. The fire apparatus is going to block you in with their trucks or with really big fire hoses and your Sargent's will be angry with you because you cannot move your cars. 3. Forget about the cation tape, fire line tap, stay away tap. All it is going to do is get in the way. 4. If you find yourself in the front of a burning residential building, the best thing you can do is stand there and make sure no one not wearing firefighting gear goes into the building! First due engine arrives at 1:30 in. The lines never seem to get charged before the video ends. Ladder placement for the first due truck wasn't actually all that bad as it was well opposite of the fire damaged roof which made it a safe fallback point. The 2nd due truck should have set up in front of the blue balcony though and stood by for master stream operations. Seems like there was alot more standing around than fighting fire. I will say one thing: everyone here is giving the cops shit but if you notice, the female officer shifted the car before the first due engine arrived to clear the front of the building and block off the lane to maintain scene safety. The cops did everything right here. SIM dropped the ball it seems.

Plus we don't know conditions inside; it may not have been possible to get water on the fire from the inside right away due to some unforeseen issue. When a ladder truck pulls up to a fire, they can't just raise the ladder, they gotta get the legs out. And most of these buildings have fire plugs on the inside of the buildings. And that ladder truck was making good time for everything they had to do to get that ladder in the air, as soon as it got extended out, water was coming out. It's a manless pumper

In almost 60 years of observing fires, I would guess that only about 40% of fire departments actually know what they’re doing, the rest of them I call Keystone fireman. You’ve just witnessed one fine example.

A poor call by the chief. Living in Boston many years and responding to dozens and dozens of fires, I had first hand experience watching BFD handle multiple varieties of fires. The first crew pulled hose lines in the middle of the street right where an aerial needed to be. What is taking so long to get lines charged. You can watch the fire crawl across the roof as these guys walk around trying to get their act together. Yes they need to watch FDNY videos to learn how to attack a fire. That fire was in the space above the ceiling under the roof.

Resident installed a new window air conditioner the day prior, it is believed it overheated the wiring thus starting the fire. FD evacuated 30 residents still inside, only one person injured, a firefighter with heat exhaustion.
I will tell you what really annoyed me. when there are fire fighters there they are there to do their thing and neighbors should not be going out into the street when the firefighters are there and people not moving their cars when a firetruck is coming.
I was with FDNY for 28 years sing a fire like this we already had would’ve had towel is up hand line operation ventilating the roof. What the heck is these guys waiting for? If it was us we would’ve had water already knocked down the fire but I guess everybody works differently. God bless my brother and God bless everyone else.

Everyone does it at times but all it takes is to flake the line out closer to the sidewalk. No reason at all to lay it out in the street except maybe to make the stretch in and up a bit easier with limited manpower.. We can't complain about the cops blocking us out if we're doing the same to ourselves.

Police block traffic and pedestrians , trucks add entry points to fire areas, engines stretch line to extinguish fire. It’s really not complicated. It’s a roof membrane fire so really 2 and 2 return the rest.

Kind of slow response to the fire that is on a roof. They had two ladder companies there and none of them putting water on the fire.
