Yeah it's literally the same thing. You use vowel sound movements of the mouth to manipulate the sound. You can do the same thing by putting your phones speaker in your mouth.

I've been trying to get the motivation to learn mandolin over the past few years but life always pulls me away but every single video I watch of yours leaves me wanting to drop everything and pick up the nearest instrument and just start jamming. My mom made me play one of these in the 5th grade for the talent show and I got picked on SO hard for it. I'm 40 now but I still have that same one in a drawer somewhere. I haven't played it since that day. Maybe I'll get it back out.
My mom had me pretend to play this while dancing to the Ozark Mountain Daredevils, “Chicken Train” song. It starts off with a great jaw Harp intro. I was in the 3rd grade, late 80s. 😂

Rob brings that three-finger "sprint" move to every instrument and I love seeing it because it was the first thing that got me hooked on his style. Aaron really sounding like a new member of Code Orange in the death metal segment; with the way he hold the harp, he could use a harmonica mic and maybe use a pedal or two to recreate the distortions, and maybe use a pitch shifter for whammy squeals or just getting different notes. Thanks to this channel for turning me on to Jaws and getting me back into being a fan of skateboarding and introducing me to another positive person who is broadly creative on the internet. It's very interesting to see how it's used in the traditional music of so many cultures across the world. It probably was the most widespread instrument after flutes and drums.

Around 1765, Johann Georg Albrechtsberger, one of Beethoven’s teachers, composed no fewer than 7 concerti for mouth harp and string ensemble… they’re remarkable and quirky pieces of music that explore the melodic possibilities of the instrument more than rhythm. Some of the recordings can be found on RUclips.
Love to see these two having fun together. This is going to cause huge sales in mouth harps! Like Jaws said, one of the oldest instruments but not very common these days. When I read the comments here, it looks like people just don't seem to know about this instrument. I've been playing for a few months and have to conclude that there isn't much on RUclips about this instrument. Jaw's instructions in the beginning are super clear and to the point, but I didn't noticed him mentioning to put LITTLE pressure on the harp when you're holding it between your thumb and index finger. The little 'tongue' that's triggered needs to vibrate freely. I find the constant low pressure to be the hardest part of playing the mouth harp. It buzzes quite often. Check out Mongolian / Turkic folk music for some amazing harp techniques. This is a relatively cheap instrument, for us Europeans: Thomann has a few great ones go for it!
Ohhh that was insane! This is called "morsing" here in India and is used in Indian Classical Music as well. I loved the metal breakdown! Was waiting for the china to kick it 😂 it really does sound like a guitar and growls when put through distortion!
This is great! I became obsessed with the jaw harp a few years ago, and now I own well over 100 harps from around the world. This instrument crosses cultures so easily because most every culture has a mouth harp. I have met amazing people because of this!

Try the Tagelharpa. It's a really old Scandinavian bowed lyer. Tagel means horse hair, so its called horse hair harp because the strings are made from twisted horses hair. The not Historically accurate bass version founds mesmerising. I think it would be perfect for a metal with instruments that are not metal series.
The Mapuche people in southern Chile have their own mouth harp. It's called pawpaweñ and it's made with a stick and a string. After european colonization they adopted this kind of metallic mouth harp, but the pawpaweñ still exist.
In Germany we call this thing "Maultrommel", which roughly translates to "mouth-drum", with "Maul" being a (kind of) insulting form of mouth. We rather use "Maul" as a description of an animals mouth. Thought this would be interesting.

As of today, and only owning one of these instruments for less than a week (and making progress each day with it as a 20-year musician), I'm sorry to say that I am Harp-Broken. Yes. I carried my jaw-harp around with me in my pocket, and when I got home from work tonight, I found the flicker-part broken off!! Sad sad loss. I might do some soldering or welding about it if I can. My girlfriend bought this thing for me, I'm trying to keep it going. I played it even though it's broken when I saw that I could speak Vowels into it. THANK YOU!!

Try the Tagelharpa. It's a really old Scandinavian bowed lyer. Tagel means horse hair, so its called horse hair harp because the strings are made from twisted horses hair.
The not Historically accurate bass version founds mesmerising. I think it would be perfect for a metal with instruments that are not metal series.

The Mapuche people in southern Chile have their own mouth harp. It's called pawpaweñ and it's made with a stick and a string. After european colonization they adopted this kind of metallic mouth harp, but the pawpaweñ still exist.

In Germany we call this thing "Maultrommel", which roughly translates to "mouth-drum", with "Maul" being a (kind of) insulting form of mouth. We rather use "Maul" as a description of an animals mouth. Thought this would be interesting.
Kind of like the English word "Maw" which is similarly used for animals
or like the French word "gueule"
