I think it’s with the newer reissues from the late 90’s to the ones from the last few years with the plastic, Not the paper. Especially ones pressed at RTI. At least from videos that I’ve seen. I buy a few sealed albums every couple months or so, but they are from the late 60’s to the late 70’s. The paper is usually creased but the vinyl is usually pretty good. I’ve seen a couple with slight warps, but the % is still in great condition. I got a couple sealed still. But I’ll get to them. There’s a pleasure in opening a sealed album that’s old. It’s one to open a nice bottle of scotch or whiskey and break the seal, still keep the shrink on the album, and play the album. Wow!
Hi from Australia guys, I'm enjoying the topic of discussion. I've always been on the side of collecting for the joy of listening not for future sales value. If you keep albums sealed , do it at your own peril. I viewed a RUclips video recently where a guy has hundreds of sealed records, who had no idea about hazing. He now feels compelled to open every one of them to check thus, instantly destroying his investment. With regards to the heavy pvc album covers, they can be quite devastating to the cardboard also. I've seen album covers that are virtually welded to the pvc outer sleeve.
The sad part is a lot of people spend a lot of money for sealed albums and who knows what has happened to that album. I try to steer away from it, too expensive
Gidday guys, good helpful info, I buy records to enjoy listening to them so they are removed from the sealed wrap, I wasn't aware of the potential damage by leaving them in the shrink wrap. Thanks.
I know that Amazon will reseal a returned LP and sell it as new sometimes. I've had it happen to me at least three or four times. I remember one album was a Jimi Hendrix LP. I wondered why it didn't have the hype sticker on the shrink wrap when I got it. But after opening it, I also realized that the insert was not in the sleeve and there were fingerprints all over the vinyl record. I've also received other perceived returns on vinyl from Amazon being sold as new. I've received some albums that the shrink wrap was completely gone and they were just opened. Upon exchange, in both scenarios, the next record in the first case had the hype sticker and insert and no fingerprints. And in the second scenario, the next record came and it was shrink wrapped. I've been told by Amazon employees that they will send something out as new if it looks like it's in good condition when it's been returned. I do not like that! Being legally blind and unable to drive to record stores a lot of the times, I'm kind of stuck having to order online most of the time. I do fortunately get to make it to some record shows and my local record store. I've even paid about $50 round trip to be able to go spend 5 or 6 hours looking at my local record store. But I'm still, and I wish this wasn't the case, having to buy a lot online. I definitely recommend people look at things carefully and even take note of things that seem out of the ordinary like a Jimi Hendrix album with no hype sticker released the Experience Hendrix LLC. If you're suspicious of something that is sealed, film it as you open it and document it. It might help you out. Brian in Fort Worth, 🎶
Wow Brian, that is terrible, buyer beware. I would not have thought about Amazon doing that. I have heard others buying records that are shrink wrapped but the wrong album was in the sleeve. Anybody can shrink wrap and album. You did have it tough have to rely on others when you order on line and hope they grade correctly. Very interesting points Brian
@@brucybabyy7355 everlasting is correct! That's a drawing - on a paper plate - of Crow from MST3K. My daughter made that many years ago, when she was just a kid. She's always had an artistic side.. We've got a couple (later) works of hers in the store as well. You can kind of see her "Aliens Hanging Out" painting over my right shoulder.. Thanks for watching, by the way!!

Scotch & Vinyl.. both meant to be enjoyed!

Listening to Traffic this weekend, now will get out arc of a diver too
Arc of a Diver is a very good album, it’s not as rocking as Traffic, definitely has an 80s sheen to it but nice music

Ken I agree, I buy to enjoy the music, some people just buy for an investment, especially flippers

I remember the worst, were the 70s A&M plastic sleeves. They would stick to the record even when buying new.
Bruce, I am wondering what kind of crappy inner sleeves some of my records are in. Now, do I really want to look at everyone of them, sigh
I have to ask. Over Jim's left shoulder, it looks like a pie plate withs a dissected frog on it...
its a drawing of a character from mst3k i believe

The cruush album collects their 2023 ep and 2024 ep on vinyl. So new and not new
Thank you, so it is half new and half old material lol. Vinyl Douche must have showed this
Regarding sealed records... I would be leary of any sealed records that DON'T have the original price sticker on them.
Good point Gregory, that at least gives you more confidence that the album will be alright
