Thank goodness you're back. I just love this channel. You give great advice to make great tanks without breaking the bank. Very happy to see you're making videos again!
Duuude! I'm so glad you're back. You were one of the primary reasons for my obsession with planted tanks and why I'm here in the hobby today. Can't wait for your future uploads! :)
Having watched all your vids, my girlfriend and I are very happy to see you back man! Congrats on the new place, we look forward to learning much from you like we typically do!
cloud9aquariums It is, we are currently working on setting up our first 4 foot tank and we plan on using dirt since so far it has grown out our plants like crazy in our other tanks. Thank you for the vids though man, your advice is seriously priceless! I've learned a ton from your info and we have really gone much farther in this hobby than expected due to inspiration from seeing how easy things can be from you, thanks a million and totally look forward to future videos
Welcome back, I recently re did my tank and from what you described in this video our tanks will be very similar. I think I might know what fish you will put in but I don't want to ruin the surprise. Keep up the good work!
Good to have you back and glad the move went ell dude! Loving my 50/50 dirted tank, the Madagascar lace seemed to do better in my shrimp tank for some reason though. Least it has room to grow now, it's a monster!
cloud9aquariums yeah i'm guessing they were just freaked by moving tanks, I'd split the rhyzome and just left a bit in the 40gal and today, after posting that comment, it appears to have grown three new leaves! Fingers crosed the home made CO2 will hwlp the hair algae go away. though hair algae of lace leaves looks surprisingly awesome! Easily my fave plant too. :)
I bet it does look pretty cool in a current although I'd make sure it doesn't clog the holes in the leaves too much. I've heard it can be smothered easily by algae so I've always spot treated mine with Excel or H202.
cloud9aquariums I'll admit, I do feel you are "screwing" possible dirt goers by not telling them the headache of dirt if you are going to want to change your plants around a lot. With flourite (that I have) you can easily pull well rooted plants right up, and the substrate will practically instantly settle back down. Not so much with dirt!!!!! Apologies if you did mention it, and I missed it.
No worries there's tons more to do in the hobby besides dirting I just have alot of viewers interested in how I dirt some of my planted tanks so i wanted to give them the information incase they want to try it themselves.
Hey Evan!! Great Series ! But Dude were are you ? We know you are contractor and you gotta make Hey while the Sun shines. But Dude we miss you! Hope to see you sone and all is well!
Nice video, I put dirt in my two and half year old tank today as I have established filter media, I put the fish after few hours. The water is a bit cloudy. I have a question, do I have to change the water tomorrow or day after if so how many water changes should I do. I have plants and 19 fish in 35 gallon tank. Thanks
Nice to have you back bro. Started my channel awhile ago from watching your videos. Got a tank started and then addicted from then on out. Got four tanks now and a bunch of subs. Check it. Can't wait for some more videos
Sean Rafferty They make some that is organic and some that is not. The organic just means it has no chemicals or unnatural pesticides or fertilizers or anything.
can i troll the level thing out and just say. Where do you get a level? do i have to say im kidding? or is merica scratching their head. i like the video man.
I have seen a few of your vid's and this one you were tweaking hard. You remind me of jesse pinkman. You got a lot of good info I have been running tanks for 2 decades and you got a lot of good info but cool your jets before making vids...
none, there's no plants in the Rift Lakes and the ph, kh and gh are too high for most plants to tolerate. Secondly most African cichlids are herbivores. they will uproot and tear your scape up.
Lies, Rich Blondin. I have two electric blues, a venustus, 2 plecos, 4 kribs, a red zebra, and 2 demasonis in my tank. I run highlight, with co2, i have jungle vaal, and like the smaller version of it, i think its called vallisneria. I also just planted some mini dwarf hair grass(eleocharis sp. mini). I have a brown wenditi crypt, echinodorous major, and a minor. Some hornwort andd i think thats it. My plants are doing pretty good, honestly the fish dont mess with them, i stopped feeding them as much and they began eating the algae off the leaves. I never thought cichlids woulda been algae eaters but yeh starve em enough and it looks good enough to em. Trying to get a carpet going on right now with the eleocharis ;) Also in terms of subtrate, i have a mix of alot of stuff to be honest. crushed coral, some sand, and seachem flourite, amongst other things. Two of my plants are flowering, and my demasonis just gave birth to 28 babies. My kribs are constantly doin the matin dance, so i dno, I feel like shits good in my tank.
Thank goodness you're back. I just love this channel. You give great advice to make great tanks without breaking the bank.

Thanks my man! Madagascar laces can be strange as they can go into dormant phases. But when they grow they are easily my all time favorite plant
cloud9aquariums yeah i'm guessing they were just freaked by moving tanks, I'd split the rhyzome and just left a bit in the 40gal and today, after posting that comment, it appears to have grown three new leaves! Fingers crosed the home made CO2 will hwlp the hair algae go away.

cloud9aquariums yeah they're high flow plants so not used to algae in the wild. Gotta pick up some excel soon, typically i'd just run out. :p

Nice video,

Glad I found you on here, super informative. I love your videos. Subscribed and everything. But please try to control all of those "uhm's"

I knew that you didn't die yet ;) Welcome back
Haha of course not i was just getting ready to make this channel a million times better!
Can anyone recommend plants and substrate that will work in a Cichlid tank
none, there's no plants in the Rift Lakes and the ph, kh and gh are too high for most plants to tolerate.
