- Manisha Panchakam is a set of five verses in which Adi Shankaracharya succinctly presents the essence of Advaita Vendanta, philosophy of non-duality.
The occasion for this composition was an encounter between Shankaracharya and a sweeper. When Shankaracharya was walking, along with his disciples, towards the temple of Lord Viswanath in Varanasi, it so happened that a sweeper was walking towards him on the same street. Shankaracharya asked the sweeper to move away from his path. The sweeper then asked him some questions that form the substatnce of two verses which are a prelude to the main composition.
On hearing the sweeper's questions, Shankaracharya realized that the person before him was no ordinary sweeper. Shankaracharya's response to these questions, given in five verses, are called Manisha Panchakam; the word 'manisha' meaning 'firm conviction' appears in the last line in all five ("pancha" means five) verses.
During this weekend retreat, Swami Sarvapriyananda unfolded the essence of Advaita Vedanta philosophy packed within these five verses.

The Vedanta Society of New York was the first Center founded by Swami Vivekananda, in 1894, and is affiliated with the Ramakrishna Order of India.

This session is an eye opener for all. Parents,guardians,adults( prospective parents,facilitators,teachers) need to digest this session.(on addiction,lust,taste buds and misuse of / understanding advantages of technology) The lockdown had its advantages,as enough time for them cribbing about lack of it,to explore the I in true essence,and not just me,my,I and self ! Ethics needs to be made aware,more than only the materialistic world. Pronam Swamiji.
So beautiful esp. his examples of other swamis, his unwavering knowledge and clarity brings perspective on every query.

I read the comments but wish to ask the people who complained about sound - Can Swamiji or anyone change this sound now? I guess not. Then why not just peacefully listen to it :)
Why complain and cause anxiety to each other - Why not practise spirituality in this small aspect too?

In whatever form we are....the "LIKING" ACT.. ...its strange as on today too.. no science , no philosophy has discussed about " LIKING" . How it affects the ups and downs ...emotions.... is it that LIKING TOOO IS A CARRIED FORWARD SYSTEM FROM UNIVERSE? AND IT REMAINS THERE and comes to the ones / reaches ones even after loosing this body in which the soul resides? It.. I feel comes back to the souls.

Revered Swami ji, can an individual be a non-believer of any of the established faith-based religions of the world and still walk the path of spiritual life? Can an atheist, nobel prize winner of Physics who gives her own life to seek answers to the questions posed by the Universe, be considered a practitioner of spiritual life?
Absolutely. Because Advaita clearly points out you are already that Existence Consciousness Bliss ( Sat Chit Anand ). Assimilating this truth is nothing but a walk on the spiritual path. A scientist is too nothing but a Brahman or Atman whichever way you want to coin it. And you are that ( Tat Twam Asi ). 🙏🏻

Does Idol Worshipping Comes Under Maya
There must be worshipper and worshipped in idol worship so two where ever two it is in maya

Advaita vedanta respects two levels of reality - vyavaharika and paramartika. Please note that Adi Shankara sang hymns to many Gods, Ramana workshipped Arunachala, Ramakrishna saw the divine mother every moment. And so on.
At the vyavaharika level, the 3 bodies exist and Ishwara or Saguna brahman is at the causal level. Ishwara is not bound by Maya and a vision of Iswara is not to be dismissed as Maya or hallucination. It is a high blessing. And from there, the last step is very nearby.
When the idol is workshipped, the saguna brahman is worshipped. You are under Maya, the saguna brahman is not. The worship is in Maya but the results take you beyond it.
Advaita Vedanta respects karma yoga, jnana yoga, bhakti yoga etc. And all of them are required to get to Advaita. The realization is effortless but the fine print is a lot of effort through the other yogas.
Advaita Vedanta says "Beyond Ishwara, there is the formless consciousness that is nirguna Brahman". It does not dismiss the form. In fact, one only exists.
