  • Manisha Panchakam is a set of five verses in which Adi Shankaracharya succinctly presents the essence of Advaita Vendanta, philosophy of non-duality.
The occasion for this composition was an encounter between Shankaracharya and a sweeper. When Shankaracharya was walking, along with his disciples, towards the temple of Lord Viswanath in Varanasi, it so happened that a sweeper was walking towards him on the same street. Shankaracharya asked the sweeper to move away from his path. The sweeper then asked him some questions that form the substatnce of two verses which are a prelude to the main composition.
On hearing the sweeper's questions, Shankaracharya realized that the person before him was no ordinary sweeper. Shankaracharya's response to these questions, given in five verses, are called Manisha Panchakam; the word 'manisha' meaning 'firm conviction' appears in the last line in all five ("pancha" means five) verses.
During this weekend retreat, Swami Sarvapriyananda unfolded the essence of Advaita Vedanta philosophy packed within these five verses.

This is wonderful .....knowledge of advaita with devotion of dvaita ❤
This explains why some enlightened masters are non-devotees and some are devotees.
This explains why when Gopis forget who they are they become Krishna and when they remember all attractive yellow clad Lord to be loved and worshipped they become Gopis ❤
Dvaita is joy for enlightened and misery for unenlightened

I agree with swami, other wisdom literature and religious writings make more sense in the light of Advaita Vendanta.

Why Swamiji always tries to make Advaita handicapped by giving support of Bhakti yoga ? If Bhakti yoga is first step then it is also the last step. I didn't see any bhakta practising or turning to jnan marg (path of knowledge- Advaita) in the entire history and scriptures of Hinduism. By the grace of God, he reached the stage of non duality. But jnani (followers of Advaita) turned into Bhakti (Uddhav in Bhagvatam is the greatest example). Please stop mixing these two paths for Advaita sake. Don't confuse the beginners in Advaita who has no interest in Bhakti, who just want to be one with That Absolute Infinite, Existence, Consciousness, Bliss, to follow Bhakti path. If he could have follow that path, he would never have turned to path of knowledge. A seeker choose path of knowledge when he doesn't believe any concepts of God.
Please please stop doing this spiritual politics. Shravan, Manan and nidhidhyasan are prescribed steps in Advaita. Stop bringing path of devotion as prerequisite for path of knowledge. Be honest in what you are talking. Have faith in your path and let others have faith in this path of knowledge which is complete in itself.
    AUM

In advaitha there is no room for faith. we have to experience the oneness in all practically. Only devotion definitely can not lead to advaitha. But Advaitha knowledge if combined with bhakthi, we can easily achieve the realization of Advaitha. Bhakthi path, if we see through the knowledge of advaitha, we can get wonderful experiences. May be Ramakrishna paramahamsa might have these experiences, I think.

Sorry, but I have experienced absolute clarity in what he preaches...no contradiction whatsoever.
Real knowledge automatically converts into bhakti instantaneously. It's not that you have a choice.
      Bhakti blooms into bhava.

    • @sasha9517
      @sasha9517 5 лет назад +1

@ Marc f# It's true that real knowledge automatically converts into Bhakti but only if knowledge is of 3 tatvas as explained by Kripaluji Maharaj in his discourses on Brahman, jiva and Maya.
Then we realize that these are separate identities and God is our Master and we are servants of Him (dvaita-dualism) or we realize that we are parts of the God (vishisthadvaita- qualified non- dualism).
But when real knowledge of (Advaita- no dualism) comes then we are not two.
I agree also that Bhakti blooms into bhava but when we are going through the path of dvaita (God-devotee relationship). If Swamiji is discussing Bhakti, it is absolutely wonderful but mixing altogether leads us to nowhere. Neither we can do Bhakti with innocence and purity and with total surrender having thought in the back of mind that He and I are one nor we in the state of Is-ness considering He and I are different.

Swami's teachings/discourses on Advaita Vedanta is crystal clear to me. I don't see any conflicts when he includes other paths, (viz Bhakti) in his discourses.
