An article was written when this bullet was developed. Same weight, same cartridge. They took it to Africa and dropped everything in its tracks, including eland.
Nice
Great test
Thank you brother!
I love that bullet out of the 30-06!
Bet it's a sweet deer getter!
I'm a big fan of light and fast solid coppers bullets. I have an AR in a wildcat called the 270msr. First few deer I shot using a .277 120 grain cavity back mkz bullet at 2800 fps, they ran a short distance before going down and worked great. The next few deer I shot I used a 105 grain mkz bullet at 3000 fps and they all dropped in their tracks. I got some of the same MKZ bullets this year for the 308 in 125 grain and 168 grain. The 125 grain at 3100 fps will be for deer out to 200 yards and the 168 will be for the longer shots. You should check them out the 308's expand to almost an inch wide.
I'll definitely have to check those out!
Awesome! I wish Barnes loaded the 130 gr. TTSX in their factory .30-06 ammo. As of now, they only do so in .308. I am not a handloader, but I would love to be able to use it in my .30-06. Keep up the good work.
Sounds like it's time to get into handloading!
You need to start. I can repack and pull
To test every thing most people don't know factory loads 🏭 is not consistent on loading. I way out every load I buy the factory boxes and thay don't way the same. I repack all my 30cal. Rounds big range of bullet and consistent on loading there better than factory loads.
Just worked up a 30-06 load with this bullet and IMR 4064. With my 26in barrel I'm seeing over 3400fps on a near max charge and tiny little groups. Insane.
NICE! move over 270 there's a new king of 130gr bullets!
Godspeed and good hunting to you and yours my friend!
I Have 6 300 Win Mags In Christensen Arms. Appreciate Your Footage. Keep It Coming.
Thanks!
Hey Chuck, that is crazy velocity and muzzle energy! Must be crazy flat shooting. That would be awesome for any deer (Red, Sambar, Fallow, Sika) near where I live. Although the projectile lost a lot of weight at such velocity it still penetrated deep and held at least some reasonable weight. God Bless Dave
Thank you Dave! I need to come hunt with you sometime
We have seen 130 ttsx do crazy overkill damage on reindeer at 200m (870ms)
Good on moose though. Putting these in a win mag seems a good way to have no meat left after impact….
@wathaet1386 good to know. Thank you. What about 150gr ttsx?
@@AlaskanBallistics Will try that or 168 on reindeer next year if I have not gone 7mm by then. I presume it is the speed. Was surprised, but both reindeer had same massive damage, yet a number of moose and no problem.
@wathaet1386 moose are tougher. I've used 139gr lrx in my 7mm Rem mag no problem... spring 145gr lrx now.
I just got through watching your 7 Rem mag Barnes 120 grain. These two are twins but 30 caliber being slightly larger and heavier. Nice videos, thanks!
Thank You Kindly. Godspeed and good hunting my friend!
@@AlaskanBallistics thanks! ♥
If you can get it to shoot accurately... awesome deer round.
It'd do well on caribou too
Why wouldn't it shoot accurately?
@@chuckfinley3152 I think he can, I'm just making an assumption that he hasn't shot this for groups yet
I only have 2 rounds left. They were same hole at 50 yards though
Cool Beans. I decided to do some load development with these for my Old Remington 760 in .30-06. It will be my Go to whitetail deer cartridge and Rifle once I run out of the Deer Season XP Copper Impacts I'm shooting currently as I mentioned before in another video's comment section.
Cool man. Hope they work well
@@AlaskanBallistics
Thanks me too haha. I hope I can get through the load development process. I almost have everything I need, just waiting on delivery of a few more items.
Let me know if you have any questions
@@AlaskanBallistics
Thanks Brother.
I do have one, I've noticed you tend to pick slower burning powders, like IMR 4831 compared to 4895. Why is that? Looking at several of Barnes load data charts, they seem to prefer the faster stuff. Seems like no slower than Ramshot Big Game on most of their charts for .30-06.
Less recoil, tends to be an accurate powder
Chuck if you put a wrap or two of electrical tape around your scope bell those flip up scope caps wont fall off and you can still pull them off quick to get them outta the way, just use the good 3M tape the other stuff gets sticky.
Those 130gr TTSX acted like a Hammer bullet, i believe those would be Caribou Killers.
Good idea!
Good video. Great center shot. Thanks for sharing. Take care.
Thank you for watching
I had been thinking about 130 grain ttsx bullets in 300 win mag. Use a target scope like the swfa mrfa 6x, and zero the rifle for the 130s. Then with the holdover marks in the reticle find where heavier bullets would have a 100 yard zero. 150, 180, 200, etc.
Have 1 big game rifle, and no rezeroing for different bullet weights
Interesting
Wow. By my calculations, with a 300 yard zero, you could hold dead on and have a dead caribou out to almost 400 yards. Crazy flat shooting!
Nice!
130 gr barnes outa my 270 is THE medicine for moose, elk and whitetails. Instant kills, mostly passthroughs but we find a small percentage under hide of moose on opposite side.
I bet that bullet sizzling along out of the 300 win mag would be something to behold.
Wondering if the original OLD barnes, he tsx...that was that was little tougher, might be better at those speeds. Mono bullets at speed are the way to go imho.
Nice! Do you use factory ammo or handloads in your 270?
That projectile is really moving! Hot damn!!!
It's a wee bit fast
Now, that was very interesting, Thanks
You're quite welcome. If I had some reloader 17 powder, I could get these going in the mid to high 3700s
That 130 Grain Is A Spectacular Round. Energy Like Typical .300 Win Mag. Most Animals Would Drop
In North America With This Load & Cover Some Far Out There Real Estate.
Yep I'm going to have to try this for accuracy. Reloader 17 will get me 160fps more, though I was loading the military M80A1 bullet 130gr steel tip for body armor penetration videos.
Wow that's moving, super cool. Would love to see that in gel
I probably won't redo these in gel. But will start doing handgun rounds and new rounds in gel soon...
@@AlaskanBallistics fair enough. I would be nice to be able to see how long the pedals stay on at those speeds. I'm really enjoying your channel I just found it today
@NomadicHacker. Thank you kindly brother
.300 Win May Are The Only Rifles I Have & Shoot. My 4 12 Gauge Benelli With Slugs & My 8 Handguns Will Cover Me Wherever I Go. GOD Bless You & Yours & Happiness And Health As Well.
Have you tried the Great Lakes firearms .300 Win Mag?
@@AlaskanBallistics I Have All Bolt Actions. However I Have Seen The Great Lakes AR-10 Do Some Outstanding Work With Impressive Results.
@dallasweber7692 good to know... keeping it in mind.
I use in my Remington 770 a 150gr Nosler Accubonds. Very devastating round but that round you shoot is no joke neither.
Nice. I like accubonds in a 150 for speed. Accubonds need speed
I went with the 150 barnes ttsx out of .300 win mag which is a killer, i was hesitant on going lighter
All about which one is more accurate.
What kind of speed and load did you work up? I like the 150 on bigger game. The 130 would be pretty impressive too. I may have to get some of these and try them out.
Nothing yet...
👍👍Thanks for the video Chuck
You're welcome, thanks for watching Lance
Use it for anything!
True 👍
People are taking elk at extended ranges with many 6.5 based cartridges shooting 130’s. The 6.5’s will have better BC’s and slightly better SD’s however they’re not traveling anywhere near this fast. This is an everything load out to 600 yards! Everything except a charging brown bear…
I agree.
Good test . bullet performance was awesome for deer to black bear and would hammer a bull caribou if you do ur job. To me this bullet in the 300 win mag is a bullet for past 100yard where the bullet hold together better.
Past 200 years probably
@Alaskan Ballistics 200 yards yes sir 👏 should hold together way better making for a good big game bullet like for ElK.
This will be the best of both pass through and energy dump for deer.
In my experience, when Barnes bullets shed petals, they just make extra internal wound tracts, increasing lethality. The shank still goes through, so you get blood out both sides, with extra hemorrhaging in the vitals. So basically, more energy absorbed and less expent out the back of the animal.
@robertmajors1737 Agreed. Though they can lose all but one petal and turn.
You should test 125 gr Accubond and see if it falls apart worse than the 130gr TTSX
Good idea. I just haven't loaded them yet. I'd like too. Saw a box the other day of 100gr accubond for .270
Considering this bullet for my new deer load for my 300 WM with a 26" barrel. I'm leaning more towards the 150gr. Still really fast and flat shooting but hopefully the bullet will hold together better. I also will not be getting a 20 yard shot, maybe at 100+ you wouldn't lose half the bullet on a deer even with this 130 gr.
Yeah we were at 60 yards. 150gr or even 165 would perform better. This was just loading it up for fun. Have it loaded in .308 win next at about 3000 fps
@@AlaskanBallistics Sounds good. I'm not a hand loader but my buddy is all about it, and is totally willing to help me develop some loads. But experimenting with loads like this looks really fun, I might have to get into hand loading some day.
Yeah... i still think this slowed down just a little to 3400fps would be a good round. You'd still get through and through penetration on a whitetail with this, plus the energy dump of the petals breaking off. But for larger game, I agree bigger bullet.
Nice!
Thanks Billy
Cool test, those rounds are smoking..
I'd need a new barrel in 200 rds
That things is booking it. Impact is very dynamic. If after going through 2x. Have you had the opportunity to group it @ 200-250. I am genuinely curious if it is consistent in accuracy at distance. 250 is "distance" for most folk but it can give you a bit better information than 100 yards. Thanks a. Bundle.
Someday i might find that opportunity
Having trouble finding any place to shoot right now
@@AlaskanBallistics By the way what are your thoughts on the new 7mm PRC? If you have already covered it, forgive me for missing it. Incredibly busy this past # of weeks with woods work & harvest & ministry. Sure appreciate the vids. Stay safe out there.
I see no point really... other than precision long range.
@@AlaskanBallistics agreed
RE: Long range shooting I think a hunter needs to practice @ 350 +++ if they want to hunt & shoot at game @ 350 +++ too many hunters are not tuned in to what is going on out there . Dirty Harry said " a mans got to know his limitations "
Well yes I have
What would be the maximum point blank range of that load for deer sized game?
Probably around 350
3600+ out of a 300 win? 26” bbl or not, that’s fast! Not sure I would go that light in my 300 WM, but I have been curious as to how fast could I run a 165gr TTSX out of mine ?
I'll be loading more 165gr up soon. Should easily go 3250 out of mine
@@AlaskanBallistics
Nice! I’d be interested in your results.
Thank you for your efforts. Good channel you have here.
Thank you. Please share as RUclips has been killing my views lately
Thought on the Barns Vor-TX? 190 grn 300 win mag.
The LRX is awesome. Best bullet made for hunting. Might need a match chamber and a 1 in 9 twist.
I got .9" out of the factory ammo. So good enough
165 grain nosler partition or accubond would make a good video
I've got 180gr and 220gr partition to film
I wonder how these bullets would perform out of my M1 tanker. I guess I'll have to load up a few and try it out sometime.
I'm going to load up some .30-06 and .308
@@AlaskanBallistics I can't wait to see the results.
Going to be a while. Got a bunch of projects ahead of it.
308cal. Or 30cal. Can do whatever I need to do Big ELK hunting just started to repack ammo rate be for the pandemic.
I want to try the Barnes bullet.
The barnes lrx is the best hunting made. You'll enjoy it
what a great video.
Thank you Randall!
Just curious, how accurate are these ? Some of the large magnum calibers don't shoot light for caliber bullets very well accuracy wise.
I've not tested them
@@AlaskanBallistics maybe some day the ammo shortage will go away and you'll get that opportunity.
An old friend of mine shoots a 7mm RUM that won't shoot anything under 140 grains with any accuracy.
My 7mm Rem mag shoots .35" with 120gr ttsx
Know any one with a .300 RUM and .30-378 wby mag that may load the same bullet(130 grain barnes) to do a comparison?
@@ckiefner715 Maybe
I'm looking at 130s or 140s for my . 06
I would imagine that the pedals will still come off even at 3200 to 3300 in the 30-06. I'd load them down to 3150
🙏🏼
You're welcome!
I don't think that a whitetail would take another step or even kick if hit in the vitals with that.
Possibly not
For my 308 150 gr has always been my min weight . In that rifle , other than testing , I wouldn't go under 150 & likely stay with 165-168 as a starting point . Depends on game & range & if I thought a bear may show up , could go 180 . I thought the 165 gr range were known for better long range performance , power / drop combo . I don't know the specs on 300 mag at distance , weight Vs range , power vs drop .
Have you found any drop charts on that bullet ?? I don't use copper rounds , I do study charts with bullets I would likely use to sort it out . Best to finish with field testing at the range you will be shooting to be sure real world = predicted drop .
Weight isn't as important as bullet construction
I'll work on some drop charts
This seems like a long range bullet , too destructive at that range . For close range or bears I would go 165 - 180 gr . Cool to see this shot @ 400 yds & see how accurate it is , meat target .
Someday if i can get a range
Agreed 👍 Dan
It will be hard to get most Win Mags to shoot these well because of the twist rate, these are better from slower twists and speeds, but in any rifle that is at or over 3,000 fps with them, I promise you they make an absolute hammer of a deer round at close ranges. Keep the impact velocity over 2,600 fps and they smash ‘em good.
Heavier twist will very often shoot lighter weight bullets very well. The opposite is not true.
Definitely not a Texas Whitetail cartridge. That is insane muzzle velocity with a good bullet.
It's just fine for Texas whitetail
Me??? I put shot placement ahead of ballistics
Me too.
The 180 in factory ammo is loosing all the petals at just over 2900 fps.
I think they're trying to make it r expand easier so that it expands at longer ranges
I used many Barnes , mostly only first generation X for Elk!for deer and Bear Eld X only.I know you hate them but after many deer they never fail to drop em.
I don't hate them they just have to be going fast enough
@@AlaskanBallisticsI dropped a 250lb muley with one last week at over 250 at the bottom of a canyon, in my freezer now with 6.5c.
Eat well my friend
I don't think there is anything on the planet that would survive that for long. Honestly I would prefer that to a slower heavier bullet that kept its petals. I think that would drop an elephant 🐘 pretty quick!
I definitely want to shoot a caribou with this load
@@AlaskanBallistics I'd like to see you shoot a Grizzly with it.
I'll save that for the 190gr lrx
@@AlaskanBallistics I think the fluid dynamics caused by a hard 3600 fps 308 caliber would be more dramatic then a softer 308 cal at a slower speed, even if it is heavier.
True but fluid dynamics don't kill penetration to the vitals does. I have no doubt this round would take a grizzly bear, but it wouldn't be my first choice. The .338 250gr nosler partition worked fine on a grizzly bear. So I'll stick with that
Impressive, but I definitely wouldn’t take a shoulder shot with that much velocity. Vaporize way too much meat.
True
Are you head spacing off the rim or shoulder
I honestly don't know I just loaded it to the distance that Barnes said too in the manual.
Doesn't matter the gun headspaces off the neck anyway
These will burn out a barrel in a hurry!
True that's why I've fired only 8 rounds so far, but you should see the 110gr
@@AlaskanBallistics I see a short preview vid of 110 gr TAC-TX for the .300wm, but do you have a video of testing it? I have a box of those, so def interested.
And since this vid is of the TTSX and you mentioned 110 gr here...is that what you meant? Do you have a video with the 110 gr TTSX? I'm about to order for .308 and sort of hoping that in the lower .3000s it should hold together, considering your 160 gr did at ~3300fps.
@@ShastaBean so the 110gr i loaded up was their tac-xd bullet made for .300 blackout.
They are in my .300win mag vs. Body Armor video
🫡👍👍smoking
Even better with RL17 if you can find it.
Good grief. That's just too fast for an edible game load at normal ranges. I would expect a lot of meat loss potential with anything less than surgical precision shooting.
Maybe but it's not a lead round.
Too much meat damage, if one hits bone.
No more than a lead round that hits bone
And you can put all of that in the stew pot because it's copper
YES CORRECT!
