I've got to say, 300WM is my favorite cartridge - I have dozens of different cartridges and every time I find myself going back to the good ol' 300 Winnie .
Great video Hooty. The Browning AB3 was released about five years ago (well it was down here at least). It was introduced to compete with the Winchester XPR and the Remington 783 budget rifles. I own a few Browning A Bolt 11 rifles that shoot extremely well. Nice couple of groups with the AB3! Thanks for sharing!
Love to hear it, man. No such thing as too much gun. Personally, I'd go hunting with a gun that uses a lanyard for a trigger if I could. Of course, you'd ruin a lot of the meat, but you could get multiple kills in one shot if you line up the shot. So, there's that.
Over here calling me out lol grew up shooting a 7 mag and 300 win mag here in MS hard to go to a smaller caliber when all you’ve ever used is the big boys.
For that money you're better off going with a Tikka T3X. Bought my 300 win mag Tikka from Canadian Tire for 1099 all taxes in a year back and that was regular price.
I have a circa 1980 Remington BDL in 300 Win Mag. It does recoil a fair amount! Quite frankly I haven’t fired it much and maybe have half a box thru it. Adam….it behooves me that you don’t clean a new to you rifle before shooting it. At least start testing with a clean bore. Besides that you COULD have a serious carbon ring that could create pressure problems. I get it that most people hate cleaning rifles. Man I just put some Bluegrass on the boom box and get to it. Ron Spomer is correct that SOME rifles don’t like switching between all copper bullets and copper jacket bullets. I know you’re aware that Backfire proved this on a particular rifle.
I've got a Savage 110 Apex Hunter in .300 WinMag. It shoots Remington 180gr. Core-Lokt Tipped Sub MOA all day long. Has a Vortex 4x16x44 and has a fluted barrel. I've got a Radical Arms Brake on the threaded muzzle. Shoots dime sized groups at 100 every time. Rifle was $380 at Academy.
Love the 300 win mag…have taken a lot of Moose with the 300. It’s been my go to for Moose for the last 30 years. Awesome cartridge…Awesome performance.
The .300 Winchester Magnum was used plenty in 1000 yard competition shoots. If it was an inherently inaccurate cartridge, I doubt that competition shooters would have used it.
I know Navy Seals were using the 300 Win Mag because I shot beside them at my local range one winter about 2002. They had a crate of customized 300 WM, and were in town doing cold weather training according to their CO who spoke with me. The CO was shooting his personal 300WM and it was topped off with a Schmidt and Bender scope. A brand that was unfamiliar to me at the time. He gave me all his brass!
I am a big time 300WM fan. I own 48 different calibers and like them all. But, my Barrett 98B in .300WM topped with a 5-20x50mm Huskemaw Blue Diamond has taken game from 80 to 1188 yards. That Browning is an underrated rifle. Great video sir.
For what it's worth, I put a trigger spring in my AB3 and it improved dramatically. I believe it was from MCarbo. I'm not paid by them, just have their product and it works well.
I knew of AB3s since 2018-19 when I was looking for a 30 cal like 300 WM or 300 WSM to compliment my 270 Win. Anyway I’m glad you found it too and it shot well for you with certain ammo
The 300 win mag is the best big game caliber on the planet, for factory available ammo and rifles and not needing shoulder surgery after you shoot it. It will put down anything on the planet. Yes in Africa there are caliber restrictions for the dangerous five. Jim shockey took a cape buffalo with two shots. All things considered, for big game hunting the 300 win mag is still the king.
I have an AB3 in 270 Win that was the first rifle I bought when i first started hunting. It shoots great and came with a vortex scope in package for about $620. My son shoots it now and has good luck with it.
My #2 son and his/my 2 grand daughters have the AB3's in 30-06 when they hit 12 years old that was their birthday gift. I haven't seen their accuracy yet. My son's have taken elk with their 06's AB3, but they are 30 years old. I only load my own now and they, seem to like Hornady 165 lead core SST's bullets. I neck size also and mark each box for each rifle. I like the Brownings and I am looking almost bought one of their xbolt target in 300wm , but they ran out of them when Sportsman's Warehouse had a great sale. All-well it wasn't meant to be.
I have a Browning A-Bolt 3 chambered in 30-06 and it groups great (specially the SST 165 gr in 0,35 MOA). It was my first rifle and I took my first red stag with it here in Spain. I usually use it for driven hunts and it has never disappointed me. I´ve shot a lot of wild boars, red deer and fallow deer with it and I love it. The bolt runs very well for the price and I like the trigger too. (For stalking and long range hunting I use a Tikka T3X Superlite in 7mm Rem Mag). Love your videos!! 😃
Man I miss shooting the big calibers, shoulder trouble has me down to 243 but thanks to you Who-tee-who I went and got the CVA Scout TD and it really shoots great.
Look into 6.5 creedmoor if you still want to shoot long range with low recoil. Broke my shoulder a decade back and 6.5 lets me hunt at distance without the punishment.
try a muzzle break. I had surgery on my spine in my neck and it hurt shooting anything above a 308. put a muzzle break on my 30-06 and 300 win mag and now they reoil like your 243.
Awesome video! I have the same rifle but not threaded. My gun likes the Hornady American Whitetail 150gr best. I have shot several 0.4” groups with that load. Love the videos!
I’ve never shot a big bing bang thus far, but I have a couple of new ones to get my first experience. A 5.56 bolt action and a AR10 in 7.62. We’ll see how they group soon. I shot 3 position indoor .22 in college but that was many moons ago.
I have 2 AB3's, one 270, the other 308 cals.. Both are extremely accurate for a budget rifle. I bought both NIB at an estate auction for just under $700... Couldn't pass that deal up !
I've had great results with federal premium safari 180gr nosler partitions. Far as factory loads go along with the 180gr fusion and federal blue box with the Sierra flat base 180gr bullets. I'm down to two 300win mag rifles. And ruger 77 top tang safety and Remington 700 bdl with the blued stainless barrel that was my dad's. It's and absolute tac driver with the 180gr partitions and I reload 165gr partitions and 150gr accubonds for the ruger 77. Most people don't like this much recoil and even fewer can get past it. I don't really give it much thought I killed a buck with that 700 bdl back in 92 when I was 14 and 125lb I'm 47 now and 140lb so I just have to ride the lightning. Just remember nothing makes up for poor shot placement .
Well since we love telling you about Ron Spomer and the copper ammunition after lead, have you tried what he said and thoroughly cleaning the barrel and then trying copper ammunition to see if it makes a difference in how it groups? Huh, have you, huh, huh? lol Seriously, since you’ll have the perfect chance to test this, and since you’ll be having a part 2 for this rifle and it’s ammunition testing, before going to the range for the part 2, maybe thoroughly clean the barrel and then try any and all copper tipped ammunition you have for it, and shoot it first? Just to see if it groups differently, better? Either way, as always Hoot, great video!
Had the a bolt 3006 , same rifle basically, could drive a pin with a tasco pos on it , sold it bought a savage model 12 308 also one ragged hole, right ammo though , but I got to say run a slightly oily patch even on new guns , I've seen metal chips and debris lots of times, right out the box, its like a condom better to do it and not need it than to not to do it and need it.
Correct me if I’m wrong but didn’t the snipers in Afghanistan like Kyle use 300 Win Mags . I heard stories that guys dads used to load custom ammunition for them add ship it to Afghanistan as it was better than the military ammunition ! We love our 300 win mags in Canada
Browning make great guns🙌 I love everything about the AB3 except the plastic trigger😳 I have owned about 10 of them in the time they came out. They shoot great but better choices at that price range like the CVA Cascade or the basic Weatherby Vanguard!
I have the Browning A bolt stainless stalker .300win mag with the BOSS I bought new in 98. Love that rifle. Killed lots of whitetail and one elk with it.
I know exactly what you mean about the public range. I'm lucky to have private property I have built a good backstop on. I can reach to 400 yards on it and with my handy portable bench rest I do pretty well.
Nice stuff whoteewho. I’m starting to question some of these so called superior bullets. Shot a 10 pt last night with a 6.5 PRC at 50 yards and the bullet was less than impressive. No blood rough mountain terrain in Arkansas. Recovered the deer this am. Give me an old core lokt or interlock, soft point, or something. Idk, but I don’t like what I’m seeing.
300 win mag been catchin deer since the beginning of time, although I'm a 300wsm fan so I dont have to screw with the belt. I know eventually I will though
Great video WTW! Took my Savage 300 WM out hunting yesterday. Got a healthy 8 point. You use a lot of the Core Lokt and seem to pretty on target. I can never get that stuff to group the way I want. My firearms don't like it. I wish they did, I really like Remington as a company.
Strange rifles my A bolt hates boattail bullets. It will shoot anything that has a flat base exceptionally. Cheap old Hornady PSP Interlock flat base bullets just work great. Give that a try.
I love the browning action, so smooth. Always wanted one but everyone on the internet says that their accuracy is very hit and miss. I can't buy a gun and then spend $300 testing ammunition to find one that works. And then worst case scenario none of them work. And aftermarket support for stocks and barrels is zero.
I've got a 300 WM Savage 110 precision I need to get sighted in. I've had it over a year and haven't had it out. I hope it likes the case of Federal gold with 180g Sirocco bullets that I got, expensive ammo
Please do a group test on the 150grn bullets compared to the 180 grn bullets at 200 yd. It might reveal more info on the stability of the bullets. I am asking very nicely please.
I asked if you did anything with the ab3 like 2 years ago in .270. You said you wouldn’t because browning is to expensive! Well well well! haha love my ab3. Mine likes the hornady 130 grain SST. Next on my list is one I know you won’t do but the browning xbolt max long range in 300 win/prc not sure yet which one.
My 300 win mag ( rem 700) was super super picky on ammo it was so bad I had to take it to a gunsmith to get it threaded and had to put a tuner break on it. The federal fusion and Norma shot good out of mine. Want to try some nosler or Barnes
My brother let me shoot his 300 winmag. It felt substantial. The most powerful rifle I'd fired before that was his Mosin. They both make bricks disappear. Much fun.
Appreciate the video, was waiting for it before get one in 300win, now which one you think is best comparing ammo options, cost and better accuracy? I remember that howa doing good also. I don’t remember if you ever made a video of a vanguard in 300win, i will check. Let me know if you can so i can go get one too
I slighted in my Bergara B14 Hunter 7mm rem mag using Barnes TTSX 140gr and then to 140gr accubonds still all within a inch and under didn't clean it til I was done sighting in
Doesn’t make a bit of difference switching between solid copper and copper jacketed bullets. I’ve tried cleaning between switching bullet types and switched without cleaning on multiple rifles, doesn’t make a difference. After all, why should it? You’re sending copper down the barrel either way. Sure they might be different copper alloys, but not far enough apart to make a difference.
I would be on the lookout for somewhere I could setup my own personal range. Friends property or something. I got a 200yd range you can use anytime here in Iowa. 😊
Really tickles my innards when I get a new rifle and she prints out groups like that. I’ve had a string of bad luck the past 3 years with accuracy and buying bergaras. I finally found “the one” a day before rifle opener (long story).
I have a rifle that is sub MOA but only for about 10 shots, then you have to clean it. By 15 shots you can't hit a cat at 100 yards. Don't ask me how I know.
What do you like better 300mag or the 300 short mag they are soo close the short mag shot some of your best groups of all seems a bit overkill to have both but the 300 mag I guess is better with boolots over 200g what do u think
One thing that I've learned about public ranges,is,,go early, morning,,or go when it's REAL HOT,or Real cold. When it's nice out ,,everyone wants to be out there..
I have a A bolt 2 Stalker BOSS and it does shoot and the recoil is very mild and I've only used the CR (conventional recoil) BOSS. It is a 1/2 MOA gun with factory ammo, Federal Premium 180 gr NP. That load shouldn't be that accurate but it is.
I don't know if I will ever drop 300wm for any other 30 cal mag. Just an efficient cartridge and shoots great. Shooting 245 bergers @2900. Hard to beat.
I had 300, a 7 mag, nothing around here to need one. The high velocity bloodshoots a lot of meat, loading that big ole case to lower velocity is dumb when other calibers do much better for me
The comment about cleaning after shooting copper bullets is killin’ me 😂😂😂 it’s probably one of the most commented statements on my videos now. Cracks me up because no one ever mentioned it EVER before those videos were released by Ron and Backfire.
A 300win mag seems like a whole lotta gun for the tiny deer you good ole boys have in your neck of the woods. As well I’ve always found it strange that people will shoot 180gr out of a 06 but when they step up to the 300 mag they drop way done in bullet weight. Kinda defeats the whole purpose of a magnum. And is often why they find it so destructive on game.
For me personally, I’d stick with an 06 cause it’s about the same thing n it’s cheaper to buy n shoot , performance is about the same at 100 yards n where I hope anything past 100 yrds is a long poke. !!!

I don’t remember if you ever made a video of a vanguard in 300win, i will check. Let me know if you can so i can go get one too
Hiwa did good as well. I probably like them about the same
I got a bench on my back porch and a 100yd target and I can hop on 4 wheeler and go check it. To bad you don't live closer. Thanks for videos
Nice work WTW!!! 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
💪💪💪🦌🦌🦌
I have 2 Browning A-bolts, one in 7mag and one in 30-06. Both shoot lights out
Awesome
Yeah, if the 300 Win Mag was so friggin inaccurate they wouldn't be so popular as Military and S.W.A.T Sniper Rifles. The 300 SLAPS!!!! 🤙🏻🤘🏻👍🏻
You are the real gunn slinger now 💪💪💪💪 Backfayyer are yust there.. (sorry my langwes )
I slighted in my Bergara B14 Hunter 7mm rem mag using Barnes TTSX 140gr and then to 140gr accubonds still all within a inch and under didn't clean it til I was done sighting in
Great info and thank my friend 💯😁💯💯💯💯😁
Doesn’t make a bit of difference switching between solid copper and copper jacketed bullets. I’ve tried cleaning between switching bullet types and switched without cleaning on multiple rifles, doesn’t make a difference.
After all, why should it? You’re sending copper down the barrel either way. Sure they might be different copper alloys, but not far enough apart to make a difference.
I would be on the lookout for somewhere I could setup my own personal range. Friends property or something. I got a 200yd range you can use anytime here in Iowa. 😊
Yup. Would be nice
What kind of speed did you get? What we need to know…..
Really tickles my innards when I get a new rifle and she prints out groups like that. I’ve had a string of bad luck the past 3 years with accuracy and buying bergaras. I finally found “the one” a day before rifle opener (long story).
rem core lok seems to shoot almost the best out of any rifle i watched you shoot ever
Looks like the leupold backcountry rail. Its a good one run it in mine
Yup
I wanna see your take on the new Browning OD green spr line in 7 prc or 300 wm. Pretty attractive for around $700
I have a rifle that is sub MOA but only for about 10 shots, then you have to clean it. By 15 shots you can't hit a cat at 100 yards. Don't ask me how I know.
I have the browning x-bolt in 300wm it likes the 165 federal fusion
It is you have to clean it before you go to an all copper bullet.
Last browning I had was lucky to hold a 6” group at a 100 yards . It was a dog! Abolt 2 stainless stalker.
Yikes
What do you like better 300mag or the 300 short mag they are soo close the short mag shot some of your best groups of all seems a bit overkill to have both but the 300 mag I guess is better with boolots over 200g what do u think
One thing that I've learned about public ranges,is,,go early, morning,,or go when it's REAL HOT,or Real cold. When it's nice out ,,everyone wants to be out there..
More interested in why did you get rid of the Tikka?
Never had a tikka
I have a A bolt 2 Stalker BOSS and it does shoot and the recoil is very mild and I've only used the CR (conventional recoil) BOSS.
It is a 1/2 MOA gun with factory ammo, Federal Premium 180 gr NP.
That load shouldn't be that accurate but it is.
I don't know if I will ever drop 300wm for any other 30 cal mag. Just an efficient cartridge and shoots great. Shooting 245 bergers @2900. Hard to beat.
I had 300, a 7 mag, nothing around here to need one. The high velocity bloodshoots a lot of meat, loading that big ole case to lower velocity is dumb when other calibers do much better for me
I like the targets you are using. Really easy for me to see with my old eyes. What kind are they?
Caldwell Orange Peel
@WHOTEEWHO Thank you, gonna order some of those!
Some bang sticks are just picky like that. Once you get the right combo it’s game on. I have a few picky eaters myself
The comment about cleaning after shooting copper bullets is killin’ me 😂😂😂 it’s probably one of the most commented statements on my videos now. Cracks me up because no one ever mentioned it EVER before those videos were released by Ron and Backfire.
Literally drives me nuts
Wtw ..you got any experience with the 7-30waters cartridge?
I do not
That Remington is just good
You should use the Caldwell Lead Sled for part 2
Got one in 7 rem mag. Love it.
Awesome
A lot of people get recoil shy when recoil get more than they like or can handle. This makes accuracy become an issue .
Do you clean before you run cooper after lead?
😂😂 I need to learn to finish the video. But was actually wondering.
Honestly dont know alot about the AB3. With the Xbolt, Xbolt 2, and AB3, im pretty sure one model will be phased out fairly soon
im tryin to find what ammo my 300 wm likes couldn’t find anything so i reload now an still cant get good grps
Good video hard working dude
Thanks for watching
Gots me a sauer 100 classic xt 300 winnnn maggggg. And it’s Adam’s fault. Was the way he said WinMag. I ain’t joking.
My tikka t3 supervarmint loves the core-lokt ammo.
Hey wtw what's your thoughts on a Winchester 7mm mag
Outta be just fine with the right ammo
A 300win mag seems like a whole lotta gun for the tiny deer you good ole boys have in your neck of the woods. As well I’ve always found it strange that people will shoot 180gr out of a 06 but when they step up to the 300 mag they drop way done in bullet weight. Kinda defeats the whole purpose of a magnum. And is often why they find it so destructive on game.
I shoot it in a 257 WSSM now and it gets rite at one inch 5 shot groups out of my browning
I wonder what a soft lead shot would do🤔
For me personally, I’d stick with an 06 cause it’s about the same thing n it’s cheaper to buy n shoot , performance is about the same at 100 yards n where I hope anything past 100 yrds is a long poke. !!!
DNZ Game Reaper mounts
Good mounts for the money
@ machined out of one block of aluminum , I’ve got them on several bing bangs
