    Yeah, 500 is definitely the sweet spot for lower end PC, But I feel like a 1000 will still work. Especially once we have two stars systems and potentially twelve to fifteen servers between the two of them.. Even with a thousand players, everybody's gonna be spread out.
    If it can handle everybody logging in at once. It shouldn't have a problem handling. People logging in all over the universe spread out.
    Because don't forget. Pyro is also an option as a starting point....

    Watched other live streams on this, it was completely unplayable. Hope CIG got the data mined out of these to be able to correct the direction they have been heading in as watching players have no chance to leave a hab before shutting down the testing and moving on was vary conserning.

      Not adequate for an entire system. Hopefully it can scale further or else we’re going to have to split this game into old school style of “Realms”. Phasing wouldn’t work with this game either. It’ll allow people to scoot around potentially for free or hop shards to get flanks they never should have.
      Think of it this way. Let’s say 1.0 releases with 10 systems. Split across 4 region based shards we have a million players. That’s 250k per region. If there is a starting location in every system that’s still 25k players per system, across 100 that’s still 2500.
      Now you may think “well dynamic isn’t here so it’ll get better”. That is not indicated by the testing. Dynamic can allocate more servers per shard based on the load in specific areas but the current limit is the shard, which doesn’t change with dynamic.
      I think this might be a bottleneck with the replication layer maybe? We might need another new major tech to overcome this. I’m not sure but CIG hasn’t actually explained themselves. There are too many people in the community that are either glazing, don’t care about the MMO aspect or are just technology illiterate.

      @@Crittek I infact would not have thought about dsm, and you are correct scalewise, but I meant as of right now, not the end result, plus this is backed up by one of his earlier streams where 500 was the sweetspot

    • @gankstrap
      @gankstrap Месяц назад

      @@Crittek But DSM can assign a server for just the habs where people spawn, then other for the transit and other for the spaceport, of course won't assign 1 server for location, that's not the final goal of DSM, is the shard limited atm to 1k players? yes but I don't think shards will be so large with DSM, they can even make 1 ship be its own server.

      I think the stress test is ultimately to determine how much performance they can squeeze out of the hardware. As I imagine once they find the optimal hardware to player ratio, they'll have an idea of how they need to scale up the hardware horizontally for higher player counts.

    • @Crittek
      @Crittek Месяц назад

      @@gankstrap Like I said, current indications are that stability and scalability doesn’t not seem to correlate to amount of servers per shard. We were having the same issues with 4:500 as 6:500. CIG needs to explain why this is the case because what you just described was their intention but the reality is that shard limits are becoming clear.

      @@prodev4012 It's possible that Chris Roberts and his team genuinely believe in the value of community feedback, and our involvement is indeed valued. However, it's also conceivable - perhaps even likely - that this process serves as more than just a genuine outreach effort. It could be a strategic move to make backers feel invested and included, effectively leveraging their enthusiasm for the project while gathering valuable data on their preferences and expectations.

      It’s a bold choice considering we can’t change our primary residence and most people are familiar with Stanton’s trade route and general areas etc.
      My bros and I set our primary to Stanton obviously and I doubt they’ll change and being from two different systems would be difficult in gameplay.
      For example: if my primary is Stanton and I set my spawn to a nursa while roaming pyro, if the nursa gets destroyed and I die I’ll end up all the way back in Stanton which is obviously a big time consumer.
      Also I’ve been storing my vehicles to the side of my personal hangar and go back and forth from there often, before I set my primary I gotta know what pyros layout is.

    honestly your mic is a little quiet but that could be me, Windows keeps auto micromanaging my audio levels it's really annoying If I want it at 100% blasting that's my prerogative besides I wanna have every app at 100 and manage with the windows main volume slider via the volume keys on my keyboard instead!
    The trains at New Babbage are in a vacuum tube your ship is a "space" ship and your in atmos the train technically isn't lore wise so it makes sense the train would be faster as theres no air resistance cause there is no air in the tubes at least if we are going by the tech it's based on they should be capable of faster than sonic speeds minus the boom!
