Good evening Mr Vashawn, I found a 2001 SLK230 for sale and I was thinking about getting it. It been sitting for 18 months the guys said but it still run just has some bugs that need to be worked out. I figure an oil change and tune up for sure. I have been really appreciative about making the move because I never owned a Mercedes before but after watching your videos, it has kind of got me feeling pretty good about it. There are some thing that were worrying me but watching your videos kind of put me at ease. The nice thing is you have a lot of instructional videos to guide people that are new. So thanks for the help and please keep it up for people like me that need the instruction.
I've got a 2003 R170 SLK 230, 1 previous owner 27k miles, replaced the faded opaque headlight lens with new clear and fitted 6.5k LED bulbs and side light bulbs. 100%+ better night time vision. Great car, but now hanker for an R170 SLK 32amg!
Thank you so much for this video! My best friend passed away and now I have his 2004 Slk 230 identical to yours. It only has 24,000 miles and only issue is minor wear on the interior paint as you described. I feel blessed to own this little gem. Everyone needs a fun car at some point in life.
Reverse lights just stopped working on my 98 slk230. I already checked the bulbs and fuse and determined that I can get them to work briefly, if I get the gear shifter in just the right position between reverse & neutral, but I need them to work correctly for a safety check. Any idea how to access the the gear shifter assembly to replace the switch or fix connections?
Hi thanks for the video. I just have a question, I recently bought the 2003 version a couple weeks ago. Great deal and love it until today. So, I inserted the key into the door to open it which triggered the alarm to go off when I opened the door. Now nothing inside works didn’t know if you knew a way to reset that. Car won’t unlock or lock and alarm just goes off and can’t silence it from key fob. Basically the key fob does nothing. I know it must be part of disabling the car as part of alarm, but can’t figure out how to fix it back. Can’t find anything online so thought I might as well ask you. Appreciate it.
You can go in the trunk and disconnect the power door locks which will disconnect the alarm. It is hidden good so you might have to really check under the trunk mat to see where it is. If you dont want do that you can buy a portable code reader to reset the car.
@@vashawnlife you're right, but easier to take the fuses out under the hood. There are two of them. Unfortunately resetting the car with a scan tool won't fix it. My slk230 was doing the same thing. Alarm blaring, lights flashing randomly. The PSE pump is what it's called and is the culprit. The electrical plug connecters got water damaged somehow and corroded. Cost about 600 dollars for the part and some know how to get the plugs cleaned and working but, can be done. In the meantime you could just take the fuses out (or unplug the thing) for a temporary fix until you get it resolved. Just be warned that the alarm system will not work, neither will the power door locks, dome lights, power seats if you have them, also the trunk will have to be locked/unlocked with the key as the fob will do nothing but flash lights when the PSE pump fails. Good luck.
Most of the time that means it is stuck. Try to needle nose pliers and gently move it around. If that doesn’t work then sadly it might be the regulator
I have a question - my fluid was DRAINED completely and I filled it full and saw it was leaking on driver's side rear fender. Looks like I may have leaking cylinder - can you tell me how to fix it?! You're great!!
Sounds like you will have to replace that cylinder. I have a video showing how to replace a cylinder I believe on my channel. Just scroll threw and look for the video with slk on it. You might have to buy a new one from eBay or take your old one off and send it to someone so they can put née seals in then send it back to you.
I will need to live in Texas for 2 years and then Jamaica for 3 years and New York finally for god knows how long, to understand what he is saying but a good review though.

You must have the upgrade because mine have everything manual. I like mine because I can let the car sit fit 3 months and it will crank right up. My e class with all those electronics, it will die after a week if I don’t crank it up. You got the nice slk
Yeah. I still have mine. If the previous owner takes care of them they can last forever. Sorry yours was messed up. I don’t know why people don’t take care of there cars
@@vashawnlife i nknow man. but old uncle sam has helped me this last year in rebuilding it. like completely. Entire ignition, entire fuel lines replaced filters sparks, engine sensors except a few lol. yeah these require heavy maintenance but well worth it
Birthday present to myself. Original owner of 1998 SLK230 with 107k miles. I’m 75 years young attempting to repair interior. Can’t open inside drivers door, door paneling coming apart, console, glovebox & trim all peeling. Kick plate needs replacing, radio doesn’t work & trim around shifter is cracked. It needs replacing. Convertible roof works & 0-65 in 7 seconds. Please help me with these issues. Don’t laugh. I’m serious. Pictures on request.
I just bought a 2004 slk and came straight to RUclips to see what to expect. This video is great
Glad I could help
Bro, I love this video. You're showing the reality of the car instead of just showing the best features and the flashy marketing. Thanks!
