  • This past April, Gates Wildlife was called out to investigate noise inside the ceiling of a bedroom. Upon investigation, we quickly determined the noise was that of baby raccoons crying. Keep watching to see how we removed the baby raccoons and what their mother did next!
    Please give this video of thumbs up if you enjoyed it!

      Once the babies are mobile that would be 4-5 babies using the roof as a latrine.

    That is a smart Mum. Your scent was on her babies (who were unharmed and in a sheltered warm den). Your scent was also on the den and blanket, so her deciding it was good showed her intelligence.🖤🇨🇦

    I take it this is not a frequent occurrence. Maybe a 1st time mom, who didn't plan well and thought heh this is not too shabby.😄 Very good mom in that seeing you the following day, she no longer felt safe for her babies. Thank you for the upload.

    That footage of the baby stretching was adorable. When she was licking the top of the box, was she marking the territory of ‘her new den’? I’ve been binge watching your channel lately, your adventures are enjoyable to watch. Apart from not getting to hold all those cute baby raccoons, I am quite content to view from afar. Crawling around in all that insulation would have me retiring before the day was out. You guys deserve some sort of Lifetime Achievement Award for that alone.🥇Great job guys!

    I've been watching your videos forever and I've always been surprised that the raccoons don't do this-just decide that the baby box works as their new den. I guess it is a pretty tight squeeze for all of them. But it does seem surprising they don't do this more often.

Deeply painful eviction w babies unable to care for themselves. Best of wishes to poor Mom & babies. How about leaving the box in some corner of the yard for just a few more weeks? I feel her pain.

    • @norwegiangadgetman
      @norwegiangadgetman Год назад +6

      That's Gate's 'Release Box'. They place it near the entrance hole and put the cubs in it so that the mother can find them easily when she retrns after they scared her away with their noise and presence. Raccoon mothers will always try to return to their cubs(very strong mothering instinct), and until she does, that box keeps them safe. (There's even a heating pad under the floor of it, so that they don't freeze in colder months.)
