Thanks for keeping it simple! I can test all the configs myself, I like the "straight to the point" simplicity. The rest of the settings I can just trial and error test with. I wish more tutorials were done this way. Thank you.
Hi RaphaSupreme, Stop at the frame you like. Select the cloth in object mode. The go to Edit and then Delete History Now you can go back to frame 0 and nothing will change, Mike
Mike Hermes Hi Mike, I have been watching your videos the past couple weeks as I am slowly trying to learn Maya. Your videos are fantastic and easy to follow. Keep up the great work! I had this exact question. Glad to see you were able to answer it. Much appreciation!
Hi Mike, i've been following you for a very long time and i learned so much from you. Appritiate work you do, u rock!! Im currently doing something similar to this tutorial you do, and i have a problem when i hit play, i have like 1.5/3 frames per second, which is anoying. Is it possible to play it at 60, like to be smooth so i can pause it properly, do u happend to know settings? Would same me a big time mate...And if anyone else reading this comment, if u know answer, pls reply! Thank ou all.
Please, how do I get a completely flat surface where the table is in contact with the tablecloth, without those bumps? I'd like to know those settings you mention at 3:21. But very good tutorial.
+Samuel Sathler The higher the polycount on your mesh the smoother the surface will be. You can also smooth the mesh after you have deleted the history of the nCloth
Hello mike ,may i know why the cloth that i create after it covered the table the shade of it does not get all grey like you done in the vid, instead it have black + grey effect there. Its fine when im using the tiles plane one.
Hi Mike I just did this on a table that I made. For some reason there are black spots on my table cloth. Like maybe the faces from underneath are coming threw the top. Would you happen to know how to fix this? I can email you a screenshot.
samantha roth Hi Samantha, I am aware of the problem and it's an easy fix. Start with a polygon plane, not a polygon cube. Turn it into an nMesh and attache gravity. Once the tablecloth is in place and the history is deleted, select the cloth and extrude it to give it thickness. You may need to lift it up a little
When it comes to texturing this a model made in this way can you still just UV map the nCloth in it's desired state? Or do you need to map it prior to arranging it over the table?
Do you know why my ncloths look partially black when they collide with another object? I tried to unlock normals and reverse normals but it doesn't seem to work
OK, but that is a different issue. It does actually so you need to create a cloth from a plane. Drop it onto the table. Then ( when your happy ) delete the history and finally extrude it for thickness and reposition it. That's all
no, it just so happened that the cloth went back to its initial state. So i have to press play again to get the outcome I desire. Was there a step I missed?
Yes, when the nCloth looks exactly how you want it ( for example frame 82 or 90 or so ) select the nCloth and delete the history. This way the cloth stays the way it is
Your cloth is probably 2 sided and the sides are collapsing and cutting into each other. Solution : Create nCloth from a single plane. One in place on table delete history and then extrude it for thickness
@@MHTutorials3D You are absolutely correct .......... but instead of deleting history i just did a small thing......... even after making the object Ncloth i took it in 1st frame and then from side view i deleted the below and side faces and played again .... and it worked ...........THanks
If that is the case then the passive collider is not setup correctly. Plese go through the stes again and make sure the ncloth ( as an nCloth ) is selected when creating the collider

***** Well, that is my approach usually. I want to keep it simple so folks get the general picture and can tweak and modify as they wish,
Mike
I guess I am kinda off topic but do anybody know of a good place to stream newly released movies online ?
@Decker Jadiel Flixportal :D
@Tomas Russell Thank you, I signed up and it seems like they got a lot of movies there =) Appreciate it!!
@Decker Jadiel Happy to help =)
Mike Hermes Rocks!
+Alexander Williams Thanks Alexander ! Best of luck with your school, sounds great !
Thank you, Mike, for your 5 minute video. Short, sweet, excellent.
Thank you Meldrey !
Keep making these videos , it helps a lot !!!!👍
Thank you
but how do you keep it like that? wouldn't it just move if you moved it back to 0?
Hi RaphaSupreme,
Stop at the frame you like.

Mike Hermes Thanks!
No problem

Another Maya video tutorial on MH Tutorials
It looks like a lamp lol
Strange lamp though
ye it's flat
man you are great. please keep uploading this type of video.

The faces ( top and bottom ) are collapsing into itself. Try using a sigle plane and then delete the history and extrude it
could you please create a maya tutorial in which we could learn how to make a human face?
I do not do characters, sorry
how to lock the animation of the table cloth? i mean i dont want it tobe an animation, i want it to be an object. is there smtg that i could do?

if its to be imported in another rendering software such as keyshot without use of plugin what would the file extension be? .fbx? or .obj?
Both is possible ( obj without shaders and FBX with )
Question. Do you uv map the cloth before or after you simulate the animation?
When it comes to texturing this a model made in this way can you still just UV map the nCloth in it's desired state? Or do you need to map it prior to arranging it over the table?
I typically UV it first
thx a lot. ;)
nice.... but how to create realiztic table cloth without ndynamic and ncloth...?
In Maya, you basically need to use nCloth or model it manually
Do you know why my ncloths look partially black when they collide with another object? I tried to unlock normals and reverse normals but it doesn't seem to work
t is collapsing on itself. Start with a single plane and give it thickness after it is converted from an nCloth to a Polygon
my mesh is not colliding with it self even when the setting self collide is turn on? nice video tho! quick and easy!
Have you indicated the table as a collider ?
+Mike Hermes oh yes I have, it's like the cloth mesh clips through it self?.... :o
OK, but that is a different issue. It does actually so you need to create a cloth from a plane. Drop it onto the table. Then ( when your happy ) delete the history and finally extrude it for thickness and reposition it. That's all
+Mike Hermes oh yea! right! thanks alot!
Nice.
Nucleus evaluation skipped, frame change too large / play every frame and still not working
When I open my save file again the Ncloth gravity is gone! Why is this so?
Did you delete the history before saving ?
no, it just so happened that the cloth went back to its initial state. So i have to press play again to get the outcome I desire. Was there a step I missed?
Yes, when the nCloth looks exactly how you want it ( for example frame 82 or 90 or so ) select the nCloth and delete the history. This way the cloth stays the way it is
Wow man ...
Hey, MH ... what does this mean (// Warning: Nucleus evaluation skipped, frame change too large //) it shows when i apply ncloth
+Srinivas Gr You simulation runs from frame ? to frame ?
Nope it is in real time .
+Srinivas Gr Set it to play every frame
i'll give an try Ty for Ur reply
Dear Mike, I'm getting those polygon texture on a windy flag I made , how can I smooth it?
+Runner Ho You mean black area's ?
Mike Hermes I also get that, how can I solve it?
there's some pesky black spots when the cloth falls on the table, how do I fix this?
Cloth is collapsing into itself. Use a single plane. Do the simulation, delete the history and then add thickness
@@MHTutorials3D what do you mean by "single plane"?
@@Madgamer4561 A polygon object called a plane
@@MHTutorials3D okay so I used a single plane and the same problem persists. If too much thickness it loses that cloth effect
oh wait no nvm. I used a plane for the nCloth and so far it's working okay. I thought you meant using the plane for the surface at first
Everytime I play the simulation...it shows ---> "Warning : Nucleus evaluation skipped, frame change too large" please help...
Make sure your animation / simulation is set to "play every frame" in the settings
I can't move the cloth with the move tool anymore after the animation is done playing, any help ?
Before or after deleting the history ?
I never deleted the history. But i found out i can move it by duplicating it
I know but it is better to delete the history
in my pc when the cloth is falling on the table the some part or area is coming as shaded in black colour .......... pls help

My Ncloth object goes straight through my passive collider. I'm fucked up, Mike. Fucked up.
If that is the case then the passive collider is not setup correctly. Plese go through the stes again and make sure the ncloth ( as an nCloth ) is selected when creating the collider
noob question but can you use this in a game engine, like is it possible to make a game ready asset like this?
+JaG Sure
+Mike Hermes thank you good sir
thnx
+Kallol Roy No problem, glad I could help
hey!, my gravity seem to not have any effect on my cloth :(
Has the ncloth material been created ? Check your outliner
Sir I am new.. my Insrat Edgs loop not working. What can I do?? Please Help me....
Make sure you are in object mode. Hit Q on your keyboard and try again
Thanks sir. I tried many times... But Insert Edge loop tool not working..
Check the forum on Autodesk.com
ncloth passed the selected object
n went down?
Did you turn the table into a solid ?
uhm where can I find the ndynamics in maya 2016?
+Franco Regala Here's your answer,
Mike
+Franco Regala oops, here's the link mhtutorialsruclips.net/user/201507/24/q-where-did-the-dynamics-menu-go-in-maya-2016/
Mike Hermes ohhh already found it though, anyway thanks sorry if I keep on asking questions, I'm doing my project in school.
+Franco Regala No problem
which one is the first video?
My first video ever ?
How do I get dynamics
+Jossy Dawha In Maya 2016 under the FX menu
Mike Hermes thnk you .... you solved my doubts
the tablecloth didnt stop ...... :(
Did you make the table a rigid body ?
Mike Hermes how i sthat? sorry im a beginner :'(
Did you watch the video ?
Mike Hermes ye i follow every step, but when i clicked play, the tablecloth just right pass my table
mine still goes thru
Is the table a passive rigid body ?
@@MHTutorials3D yes i did it a few times
@@besartbekteshi6970 Yes, but did you select the nCloth object first ? Maya needs to know what is supposed to interact with what
