  • This is Sigismond Thalberg's (1812-1871) Op. 42 on themes by Mozart. It was composed in 1841. The album this is from separates this piece into two tracks, which I combined for this video. At 6:47 in the video is where the second track begins.
NOTE: From 10:27-13:51 in the video different sheet music had to be used. The better looking sheet music before and after that was missing several pages.
Update (May 21, 2020): When this was first posted it was blocked in 244 countries. That restriction appears to have been lifted.

    A great example of Thalberg’s famous 3-hand effect 7:21

Thalberg a composé de nombreuses transcriptions d’opéras comme Liszt puisque c’était la seule façon de se remémorer les airs entendus à l’époque et de briller lors de concerts de salon . Katsaris signe ici de son talent une merveilleuse interprétation !

The shimmering runs at the finale (13:51) with the Minuet is absolutely beautiful. Although shamefully an underwhelming coda, buildup could've been more ecstatic, which can lead to a more cathartic climax. A fault that is by no means Katsaris' fault, whom has performed gracefully here, he really made the finale shine.

there is one video with a midi on bili bili website. I can't post links but if you searched there you will find the video and maybe you can ask for the midi from the creator. The video was a comparison between this, thalbergs op 14 and liszt's don juan fantasy.

That is simply false. This is very pretty, but is nowhere near close to the Genius of what Liszt does with Don Juan. RUclips is not the space to debate this, but a proper study of the two works would clearly show that Liszt outshines Thalberg in this piece.

    • @Chorizo727

Yes 100%. Liszt’s Don Juan is fine in its own right, but it’s too heavy and over-bombastic.
