I look at the genetics of what's on the menu and make a selection based on that because I've been doing this long enough to know what genetics work for me and what doesn't

You can get high quality indoor grown weed for 15-20€ per gram in Finland even though we haven't decriminalized cannabis yet. And that's the street price, friends ask 5-10€. Importing is so expensive that everything is basically homegrown and after LEDs the quality skyrocketed. I was surprised to visit legal dispensaries in different countries since I thought the quality would be a lot better but turns out most products are not as good. Of course you can get a large variety of different strains and top-shelf products but I prefer my bud homegrown with love and enthusiasm.
Like multiple people in the comments have already said its not the real reason. Things like expensive rent are more to blame. I actually know a person who was the accountant for multiple coffeeshops and they told me the dutch irs knows damn well what coffeeshops pay on average for their weed. And a lot of especially established coffeeshops really don’t want to mess around with anything that could get them closed down. They already make pretty good margins and the extra risk is not worth it for them.

Hm well it's all grey area in the Netherlands. You can legally grow up to 5 plants, but only grow it for personal use. The police can also take it, if there is a complaint about the smell from your neighbors for example. Indoor growing is fully illegal as far as i know. But off course someone has to be supplying the coffee shops, so it's kinda like, it's fine as long as you don't get caught. Allot off home growers will also grow more than they can use themselves and sell to shops at a lower price for bulk. Also shops can legally only have 500g in the store at a time, so the bigger shops sometimes even have to get deliveries mid day to restock. It's a crazy grey market game of cops and robbers. Where the cops still hold to the law and give out fines mostly. Only community service or jail in real extreme cases. But most don't have any problem with it.

Before they change to the euro the price of the bud was super cheap, when they moved to the euro the price shot up and it just keeps climbing.
