    Much respect to Master GK Lee, I remember him coming to our school on Southwood when I was a young pup blackbelt in the late 80's/early 90's. Master Olford (then a 4th Degree and rest in peace, sir) worked us out hard, "old school" as he called it, but when any of the Lee's came to visit our dojang things got cranked up to another level. And though I've been out of the ATA for over twenty years, my root style is still Songham and I've still got a ton of respect and admiration for the ATA family, The ATA is the real deal, never forget your roots, fam, the detractors and haters couldn't hang in one yall's workouts.

    There was footage of a tournament bout in the video, but it was a short clip. Respect for Lee.

    Putting aside the fact that he trained Chuck Norris, and that he really has more a Moo Duk Kwon fighting style than Tae Kwon Do knowing that Helio Gracie is known to be traditional and would never support a fake martial artist i have to give him respect, with that said it doesnt take away the fact that his students are slack in their technique its as if he is the only true black belt, i put money if Chuck was evaluating he would have the same concerns as i do, i come from a dojo where you do push ups on your knuckles, every black belt can do a full split, and all katas are done in double time, with that said i wish the Master good luck and to all his disciples i hope to see great things in the future.

      Not all of his students are slackers so school are just more lenient than others and I can tell you as a member myself we put in the work and I have the honor of training under one of the best instructors out there

      All of the Lee's in the ATA are hardcore, and I've trained with most of them. Songham taekwondo is legit, it's just a very large organization and focuses too much on the business aspect, but the taekwondo is second to none.

      You have know idea the lv of mastery and exp it takes to get to where this man has gotten taekwando is a strike first type of style and them strikes come really fast in was a wrestler in high a boxer in middle school and now I train under some of his teachings and I got to tell you its easy to talk and think but facing someone of his stature would be know walk in the park and plz try to give a little respect hes a grand master and that itself is no easy ft 40 yrs is what it took him to reach that status which mean 40 yrs of perfecting

      @abc its a good basis for learning striking though... all though learning muay thai would probably improve striking faster for street fighting/defense

      @abc Those clips were taken more than 15 years ago when he was experimenting with bringing some grappling into the ATA. I doubt he was even a blue belt at the time. Since then, he has trained in Brazil directly under the Gracies. Not a personal fan of the ATA, but his BJJ training is legit at this point.

    Wow I watched this guys 9th dan test and questioned his knowledge. But now I have to say he was a good taekwondo practitioner in his youth but just that good as in not great. His Sword technique is sub par. And judging from the fact that he is a 9th dan in ATA he must be responsible for their curriculum to some degree. I don't even know is he the founder of ATA or just a top instructor. ATA students are many but most are not that good. I have seen a lot of them get hurt from lack of understanding.

    • @colinf3963
      @colinf3963 5 лет назад +1

      I don't know his exact position but I know he has dedicated decades of his life towards the ATA. The founder of the ATA was Grand Master H.U. Lee in 1969 after he left Korea.

      @@kanemarlow4455 Kane I agree I know several Instructor from local ATA schools. The problem is not even with the insturctors because they have been indoctrinated into the ATA cult. And yes I mean cult just look at the master's ceremony. Offering gold to head master and then all of that ritual meant to indoctrinate. Also I am not saying that you will get hurt in class. The curriculum is ineffective on the street. You should always do your research into an organization that you are involved with. I am not sying to quit. But know that ATA is not a martial art for self defense. It is a martial art for health. I have been traingin for 40+ years and have seen just about everything. ATA scare's me.

      Except theres a couple things wrong with your claims have you never heard of Anthony show time Pettis yeah learn at ATA the guy from the new Bruce lee movie studio in ATA there are so many successful fighters from the ATA and cult it is not which I guess that part is your opinion ut the other completely wrong

    • @kamikaiguy
      @kamikaiguy 5 лет назад

      @@kanemarlow4455 Thank you for proving my point. I am sure the other training that he received outside the standard ATA curriculum is what helped him. So tell me does he still train ATA or does he train with an MMA gym? Let me answer tht fo you. nthony pettis was in ATA at age 5 and holds a 3rd. Dan That he received as a child. He also hold a a purple belt in Brazillian Jujitsu. He does not train with ATA on a regular basis anymore. He trains at Roufusport in Milwaukee, Wisconsin under the legendary Duke Roufus. If your going to comment at least know what your talking about man. There is nothing wrong with my claims. I have been train for 40+ years. I have traveled all over the world to compete. I know Anthony Pettis. Do you? I didn't say that you didn't learn anything at ATA. It is good for health. But at the higher levels you get indoctrinated into a cult mentality. Look up the master's ceremony for ATA just the video should tell you that no sane person should believe that stuff. We have several good ATA dojo's around here. But the organization is the problem. You instructor may be very good. But if he is teaching pure ATA curriculum it will not work in a self defense situation against a skilled fighter on the street.
