    Well, i'd like to thank you Rahdo for providing us this really good videos. In my opinion you're the best boardgame reviewer in the world.

    Jen let someone die just so she could be first in the turn order?! Truly, man is the real monster...

    Oh I just realised that you provided english subtitle, it's really helpful to understand the rule better for me because english is not my mother tongue. love it!

    In Jen's park sounds like In-gen's park. Nice little touch:D

    When you placed your 1st scientist around 10:00 could you use a #3 scientist and take 3 advanced dna (1 of each type)? Or it has to be 3 of the same type?

  • @Artrean
    @Artrean 6 лет назад

    @ 15:35 - do you have any clarification for the rule for that spot? We read that you have to use two scientists to do that action - one to place there, and then one available (unplaced) scientist that you add to your worker pool for Phase 3.

    • @dustinschwartz1654
      @dustinschwartz1654 6 лет назад +1

      Incorrect. The rule for passing never instructs you to put a scientist on the lab board. You simply move over an unused scientist to your worker pool.

    Prints out a velociraptor and cannot keep it contained so it takes walks among the customers. I think I have seen that movie!

    @ 19:43 - You can get up to $2 total, 1 each for up to two hooligans (rather than $1 for every two hooligans) - I think maybe it was just read wrong in the playthrough :-)

    Is this the deluxe or the retail version you are showing?

    • @fashiznit123

      M B this is the retail version. The ks has metal coins, plastic beakers for scientists and unique dinosaur Mini's but no gameplay differences

    I love the theme of this game, but it just really seems to have the feel of too many game mechanics piled on top of one another. I get a little bit of a Cry Havoc feel, where there are a dozen ideas but not a core mechanic that is really great. From watching this, I can't tell how a player might approach this with a particular strategic or tactical focus, as a lot of the gameplay seems to come down to picking the cheapest few things that you can on each particular turn. Can anyone comment on the long-term prospects for actually "getting good" at Dinosaur Island?

    • @severngamingnetwork
      @severngamingnetwork 4 года назад +3

      I dont think you can come to this with a set strategy in mind. Much like Agricola for example, you have to assess what the conditions of each game are (plot twists, objectives, starting upgrades and specialists etc etc). "Getting good" constitutes processing all of that at the start, and THEN coming up with a strategy that, like every good worker placement game, requires you to be flexible as the game progresses, spotting opportunities to max out on efficiency.

    I was a dinosaur kid. Pronunciations aren't easy, so don't worry about it, but here's one for you in the most thematic way I can give it: ruclips.net/video/gvmq1hT_kXk/видео.html

    Had to double check for attractions at 24:00. Played 3 games so far and never once realized we had to also pay the coin cost on the attraction. Oops. My only complaint for the game, is the deluxe version of the kickstarter campaign has a lot of "printer mishaps". Mix up of the different colored meeples, no list of individual components, (knowing there are 18 hooligans would have easily solved the VIP/hooligan problem). The rulebook is terrible. Crowded, lots of text block with bad font. Could have been designed way better. Rules versus examples conflict with each other. Gameplay is great, but the game was already 4 months delayed, a shame they couldn't have also fixed the other issues.

    • @Aquadoozy
      @Aquadoozy 6 лет назад

      Also at 14:40 you took the aqua die to keep Jen from getting it. Meanwhile her aqua cold storage was already maxed out. She couldn't have used that die anyways! I was shouting to take the dark blue die, as you were only 1 DNA short for your new dino! Argh! lolol

      Example E in the rulebook has an error. The other 19 examples are 100% correct, however.

    I just hope they will come out with expansion on KS so I could grab the deluxe version along with it. The generic components in the retail version do not excite me much.

    • @Rik77
      @Rik77 6 лет назад

      dloq ishak theyve been quite clear that the deluxe version will "never be sold again" so that seems unlikely to me. They'd get a lot of angry KS backers otherwise.

      Pandasaurus tweeted about a special announcement being released on March 12th, so it's possible it could be for that. They did mention during the first KS campaign that a 5th player expansion could be in the works at some point. I'm hoping for an expansion as well, but I'm also hoping that the deluxe components themselves could be purchased at some point in an upgrade pack of some sort for those of us that missed the original campaign.

    • @Rik77
      @Rik77 6 лет назад

      Gaming With Geo expansion yes, but I'd be surprised if they added the deluxe version of this game as well. You never know though :)

    • @GamingWithGeo
      @GamingWithGeo 6 лет назад +2

      Yeah they stated that the deluxe version (with the upgraded box, UV spots, etc.) would never be made again, but they never ruled out that the upgraded components themselves would never be made available later on. Or I never saw it if they did mention it. The deluxe version of Scythe will never be made again, but they have since offered up the components to be purchased. So there's hope at least.

    I like that you talk through your thought process before taking your turn, but in this video unfortunately you were all over the place talking so fast about so many choices you or Jen could do that it make confusing.
    Had to stop half way.

    it seems quite exciting. after buying Caverna I have started being more particular about such games as Caverna disappointed the competition oriented third of gamer inside me. it feels like here there is not much interaction between players, is there?
    edit: and let’s be more optimistic. let them be injured visitors at least, not dead

      If you are enjoying worker placement games, have a l look at The Colonists. It seems daunting at the start with the 10 billion pieces but the game has a lot of interactivity between the players. The game can also be as short or as long as you want by starting and finishing at of the ages, which will also alter what technologies you have access too. We played it once at a convention and bought it instantly and it's now a regular in our rotation.

    You could trim this down so much more by just describing the actions, phases and options. We don't need a recap of everything you were actually doing/buying. This could have been a 20 minute video.... too long didn't watch past 25 minutes... bc you bored me.
